My experience at GenesisCare Surrey was amazing. I chose to have private MRLinac radiotherapy for my prostate cancer in order that my treatment would have the minimum impact on my life and I was not disappointed. I was given an initial appointment within a week of getting approval from my health insurance. As my partner and I were travelling from some distance and staying in Guildford during the 11 days it took for my five treatments, the radiographers were very flexible in arranging the dates to suit us. GenesisCare offered to pay taxi fares for us to travel each time, but as the distance was too far we chose to stay and were amazed when they offered to contribute to our hotel bills, The building was modern and purpose built and the reception area was pleasant, bright and the staff friendly with tea, coffee and snacks on tap. Parking was easy and right outside. The MRLinac suite was similarly well done and the radiographers were friendly, helpful and keen to make things as easy as possible. It was nice to be taken into the control room to meet the team rather than them being shut away behind the glass. All of my treatments started on time and the last two appointments were rearranged so we could leave a day early. The whole experience felt more relaxing than attending a normal medical establishment, in fact more like being at a high-tech research institute. There was a follow-up call from a radiographer after we had been at home for a week to check how I was doing. The MRLinac treatment gave me very little in terms of side effects during the treatment or afterwards and meant we able to explore Guildford and the surrounding area when I wasn't having treatment. The whole experience was much preferable to the standard radiotherapy which would have involved 20 treatments over 4 weeks with months of hormone treatment. I felt confident that the use of MRI scans during treatment ensured the radiotherapy was precisely targeted to give the best results and to limit any damage to other organs. It did require me to lie in the machine for 25-40 mins and to ensure my bowels were empty and my bladder was half full at the time which was a bit tricky. The radiographers were very patient in giving me advice and support to help me achieve this although some more advice at the beginning would have been useful. If you have the option to have treatment at GenesisCare then I can thoroughly recommend it.

Miss Milica Perovic

I had a consultation with Miss Milica Perovic and was advised that I would receive a letter with my test results and scan findings shortly afterward. These were provided only after several follow-ups. Although her secretary confirmed that the results were ready on a Monday, I did not receive them until the following Friday, only after I contacted HCA and submitted a formal complaint. On the day of the consultation, I settled an invoice and specifically asked whether it covered all services, including the consultation, scan, and blood tests. I was informed that it did. However, I later received a second invoice for the blood tests, which I also settled as requested. After receiving my test results, I requested further clarification regarding my medications, which had been the primary reason for seeking a private second opinion. I was advised to follow up with my GP, and no additional information was provided. No further assessments or blood tests were recommended by the consultant. A diagnosis was not formulated, and no advice was provided regarding the medications I was taking. Overall, the episode was characterized by delays in communication, inconsistent information regarding costs, and the absence of clinical guidance on the matters for which the private consultation had been sought.

After a few mis steps with the NHS I was finally referred to Mr. Aho. Very quickly a telephone consultation took place. It was clear that Mr Aho had read all the medical notes and test results relating to my condition (bladder stone and extremely enlarged prostate) and explained in full detail what he could offer by way of surgery to alleviate (in fact cure) my condition, running through the procedure in full and outlining any possible difficulties, side effects and setting out some pre op exercises I should do. Surgery took place within 2/3 weeks and now 3 months later I regard myself as completely back to normal urologically speaking, have returned to work and I cannot speak highly enough of Mr Aho and his team at the Princess Grace Hospital. FYI I am 78.

From start to finish, the whole process was outlined and explained clearly in an efficient and timely manner. I was taken in for my partial knee replacement as soon as was available and everything ran extremely smoothly. I was discharged from hospital the day after my surgery and given exercises and my follow up appointment with Mr Simpson. I followed all recovery instructions well and my scar has healed amazingly well. People cannot believe I had this surgery 6 weeks ago with the mobility I have back and the neatness of my scar. I had back pain as well before surgery which has now gone due to holding my frame in a new and better way. I cannot thank Mr Simpson enough for giving me back my mobility.

In general, their service is excellent and easy to navigate. The only minor inconvenience is a small systems organisation issue. Data collection forms are sent as soon as follow-up appointments are scheduled (6 months in advance), and so the information would be out of date if completed at this stage. A workaround is to email for a new form link shortly before the appointment date, and to their credit they are always happy to comply with this.
