    Dr Shankara Paneesha

    Haematologist

    5.0

    Verified

From the initial fear, confusion and lack of knowledge of my acute myeloma and a collapsed L1 vertebrae, which needed major spinal surgery, Dr Paneesha was able to coordinate my operation with the surgeon and organise my chemotherapy treatment and stem cell transplant at the QE over the following 8 months. He was clear and calm and produced a simple road map for the way forward. His medical experience and connections enabled this with what seemed like little fuss. He also gave me the confidence to tackle one hurdle at a time knowing where we were going. As he said I would be, by January 2024 I was on a control drug and I still see him now on a monthly basis to review my blood results. I have complete trust in him and his knowledge of a very complex subject. He will never accept personal thanks as ‘it is always a team effort Robert’ and whether I see him at the QE or Spire Little Aston his team are always there supporting him. Known to them all simply as ‘Panessha’ or ‘the boss’ they all have the same respect for him that I now have. If there is a question his team needs answering about me they simply pick up the phone and 9 times out of 10 they get an immediate answer. If not a text or email quickly follows. Dr Paneesha has an engaging sense of humour that quickly puts you at ease but he is also honest if he needs to be. But when any bumps in the road do appear he always seems to know another route forward with the minimum of fuss. It is this deep understanding of his specialism and his involvement in research that is the backbone to his success. His positivity, knowledge, understanding, humour and hard work ethic mean I simply could not be in better hands. Thank you Dr. Paneesha…..and the team.

I went for an independent assessment of my prostate cancer diagnosis with a possible view to private treatment if I did not get chosen for focal therapy on the NHS trial that I hade been offered. Also to help me make my mind up which of the many options offered to me by the NHS A consultation was quickly arranged via Mr Doherty’s p.a. for £250 which my wife and I attended. I was given an excellent appraisal at the meeting followed by a letter that outlined a meeting Mr Doherty had with his peers to discuss my case. The letter confirmed that in their opinion focal therapy was a good option in my particular case having had access to my medical records This in my view was an excellent service for the fee but I was lucky enough to be chosen for this focal treatment under the NHS trial, I would have gone private had not my private medical insurance rejected my claim (that is another story) I am however indebted to Mr Doherty’s help and service which he provided So far the day operation held in Oxford on the 10th Nov 2025 has had very few downsides although I am still awaiting the final result on Jan 13th 2026 and hoping for a positive result from my consultant on this day The treatment was far less intrusive that the other options offered to me for which I count myself very lucky. Under the trial I will be monitored so that the NHS can find out how the longer term prognosis is for focal treatments so they are able to offer this more widely in the NHS. For my selfish sake I hope that it is good news for me and will enable others to benefit from my experience now and in the future. I am aged 74 and look forward to good health for the foreseeable future.🤞

Name: Patricia H. H. Patient ID: xxxxxxx Consultant: Mr Graham Bailie On Monday 8 December 2025 I visitied No. 6 Lisburn Road to have my wound reviewed. I recently had a full hip replacement with a wound on my hip with approximately 10 staples. The wound was reveiwed and reported that it was mending very satisfactorily. The original dressing on the wound was 30cm x 10cm. When the nurse was finishing examining the wound, she replaced the dressing with a smaller one - 15.5cm x 8.5 cm. She Spent some time stretching the smaller dressing to get it to cover all the staples in the wound. That evening, I experienced great pain with my wound. When I touched it through my clothing, the skin was extremely tender. Eventually, I removed the dressing to find extensive bruising at either side of the wound. It appears, that by stretching the smaller dressing to cover the staples, the wound itself had become extremely aggravated and angry. I replaced the dressing with a larger dressing. Within a few hours, the pain had subsided. However, 4 days later, the bruising is still present. I cannot understand why the nurse chose to use a smaller dressing which obviously caused great discomfort/aggravation to the wound. Having made a great recovery since the operation, this was a major setback to such a successful recovery.

Had a very warm welcoming at Abbington house, staff and peers were very nice. Room was nice, quite overwhelming to start with, with it being my first time at rehab. I then started to feel more comfortable with the help of the staff and my peers, putting me out of my comfort zone probably was the best thing they could of done otherwise I wouldn’t of been so open. Staff very accommodating, my therapist was very empathetic, I got on with her very well, opened up slowly but eventually we got there. I still feel I have stuff to work on, my co dependency and self love but I know that will come in time, from outside sources, just think they should not of mentioned that I would be getting DBT therapy whilst I was here as that was one of the selling points to me coming to Abbington house. The only other down side was prior to coming in I was told I would have at least one, one to one a week. But that did not happen for the the first 3 weeks, so felt a bit let down, so did my parents which they then raised there concerned to Mikey, who was quick to come up with 2 options to compensate this, which I thought was very good.

Recent visit was ok. My Nurses could have been better organised. On arrival no one was there to greet me despite being told to be there at 7.30 am I wasn’t told no one could come up and wait with you or be present after my procedure. The room for pre theatre and after theatre was far too small for 3 beds to be in it. It was also flat too hot in the room making me feel worse.. Unprepared for someone feeling unwell after the procedure. I did feel very rushed after my procedure despite feeling unwell! The doctor on shift however was very good. Nurses rushing to finish their shift in theatre to hand me over made me feel uneasy. Nurse looking after me rushing me out the door as it was past 8pm. I was worried about leaving as still felt pretty unwel. Overall was not tailored to my needs Surgeon & anaesthetist very good can’t fault them at all. Made me feel very at ease before my procedure.

My recent visit was positive as always, everyone is always warm and welcoming from the moment you step into the door. The office is clean and inviting and always decorated according to the season’s festive calendar, which always a nice touch. I admired the snowflakes decal on the windows giving it a cosy festive feel and fairy lights as I was getting my treatment! I have been seeing Lil for years now and she is absolutely amazing, I feel like a different person when I walk out the practice, in the best way possible. Also, if something else is bothering me she always makes time to take a look and do the necessary adjustments or advise on what exercises to do, or see a GP!

Mr John Terrace was very informative from start to finish. We had a telephone consultation to go over the pathology results and ensured that I understood everything. He allowed me to ask any questions that I may have which was really great. At the end of the call he advise that he will always be my consultant and if I need anything again to get in contact. Mr terrace is a credit to have in the industry and I would recommend him to all friends and family if they needed a consultant and surgeon. Thank you so much

Very good overall. Minor gripes only would be the limited parking, limited capacity in waiting areas and that some seating is too low to meet the needs of hip / knee patients . The roll out of the new call centre facility makes for a patchy experience at times and it’s concerning that online accounts fail to show all patient appointments - even with the consultants - which may lead to confusion and potential missed appointments. Work in progress and will surely iron out in time.

I felt totally Reasured that I was receiving the correct advice and treatment at all times and everything was fully explained in a most professional and considerate way and nothing was too much bother to ask advice and explain the problems I was having. Quick effective treatment but he also took the time afterwards to talk about long term management and that really helped me to manage my own condition but also feel able to reach out again if needed with an open appointment Would recommend to anyone with ENT issues

Mr Ibrahim was very lovely to meet. He showed lots of compassion to my son with his sports injury and dealt with it very well. We felt in good hands. Mr Ibrahim was able to explain and reassure us while we waited for test results and follow up appointments. He made sure we were both happy with the outcome. I would recommend him especially with teens. Thank you
