I had my first consultant appointment yesterday, regarding a hernia condition that was flagged by an NHS consultant earlier this year. I saw Dr Richard Novell. In the lead-up to the appointment, I had managed to get the referral paperwork, but no scan imagery. On meeting Dr Novell, he informed me that scans were useless anyway for Hernia diagnosis, and he then proceeded to examine me. After this, he told me that I didn’t have a hernia, when I asked about the fact that another specialist had examined me and thought differently, he agreed that doctors tend to give different answers. My issue, is not that he dosen’t agree with another consultants opinion (as well as the person who conducted Ultrasound) but that I am currently in pain, which is harming the quality of my life, and when asked about next steps to resolve this, he had nothing to offer, when pushed he offered to speak to a colleage for a second opinion. So in terms of empathy, it's pretty frustrating, and I have to be honest, it's a complete waste of time from my perspective.

I recently had a hysterectomy at this hospital the surgeon was brilliant but during my stay in the hospital I was appalled by how I was treated. Staff were friendly but some of them when I needed them ignored me. A specialist nurse from my consultant had to advocate for me. Upon discharge, one of my stitches had been left in which then went on to cause other issues. I was then chased severally for payment when I had made clear and provided authorisation codes from my insurer. I was not impressed with service from the hospital itself at all. But my consultant was brilliant.

Rebecca and Lisa both looked after me when I was in recently for a gender scan and genetic testing. They could not have been nicer or more accommodating. After getting my bloods done I felt a little faint and the care I was given by both of them was outstanding. They also made finding out the gender of our first baby incredibly special & wholesome. I would highly recommend the clinic to any new parents out there for any of their scans. The kindness, care and how friendly the ladies were was exceptional! Thank you!

The hospital itself was great and senior nursing staff on the day were informative and professional. My anaesthetist was phenomenal as was my amazing surgeon. However I had a bad experience with one of the health care assistants who wouldn’t let me use the bathroom and led to a bit of a weird experience. Plus when I got my stitches out two weeks later the nurse couldn’t see the stitches and she gave the tweezer to my fiancé who actually ended up getting the final ones out.

Just needed a referral for an overseas routine scan and I achieved what I needed. NHS in their wisdom won't provide scans for those with a strong family history indicator which is fine but utterly absurd not to provide a referral just because a CT machine (superior to most in the UK) is located overseas. These scans can be life savers and it's useful that this provider can fulfil the common sense role that the NHS abdicates responsibility on.

It was my second cataract removal this time on my left eye which was excellently carried out as was the first with the nursing staff preparing me for the operation carrying it out in a very professional way explaining each procedure in a kindly manner. The operation was also very well carried out as well, am doing well and the recovering is going splendidly after 5 days. Would recommend Optegra! !! . Thank you very much.

Dr Clifford always finds the time to listen and reassure at a level the patient can understand. At my last visit he did just that, enabling me to leave the consultation worry free, having been reassured about my blood pressure and heart rhythm. He also made it clear that I could always approach him for reassurance if I had further problems and that a review NHS appointment would be made for me anyway a year on.
