I have been very happy with my overall experience at Vision Scotland Edinburgh. The staff were both friendly and professional. I was well informed regarding my choices and the procedure. I have been thrilled with the result of the cataract surgery. I was given an appointment very soon after the referral. I would however like to let you know how I felt the experience on the day of the operation could have been improved. Firstly I was not sent the Post Op information which would have been most helpful to read before the procedure. Secondly I got very cold in theatre and was given a blanket but it did take me ages to warm up. It would have been better to have been given a blanket before the procedure started. There is a lot of cold water being used which does add to the chill. Thirdly I was not told to bring sunglasses for the journey home or to bring analogies both of which I would very much appreciated as I lived over a hour away. On the journey home I became extremely uncomfortable. Finally the roof of my mouth and tongue got a little burnt I think by the coffee as they must have been a little bit anaesthetised still when I had the coffee. The coffee however i have to say was absolutely welcome and the best thing along with the toasted teacake. I found it very reassuring to have a telephone number to call which I did use. I also very much appreciate the phone call from the nurse a couple of days post op. I hope you find the above comments of use. I do not wish to criticise as overall it was an extremely good experience and I would and have already recommended Vision Scotland. ( I did tell my neighbour to ask for a blanket!)

There was a lot of confusion in regards to my follow up appointment post surgery. An appointment was booked and agreed for Monday morning, another appointment was booked for the afternoon in addition to the morning appointment, which I tried to rearrange for the following day and recieved confirmation, that appointment I found out later had not been booked and one was made for the following week, and I had called to confirm the appointment for Monday morning too. I found out later that the Monday morning appointment was cancelled but I was not told this until I arrived for the appointment early. Gill at reception was extremely helpful and was immediately on the case to help me as this was a wound check appointment. She spoke to Nikki and Bev and I was able to be seen very quickly. I appreciated all the help I was given by Gill and she helped me create my next appointment for 6 weeks time and navigate the situation well. The appointment itself was informative and very good. I believe there was a mix up with the lists for the day and it seemed to be that everyone just got confused with what appointments for me were needed to be rearranged/ cancelled. Everything was resolved quickly and calmly, and I thank everyone for their help in resolving this.

Mr Geoffrey Roberts

I consulted Geoffrey Roberts at The Manor Hospital, Headington on 12th December 2025 regarding a hernia repair. In the circumstances, it was about as positive experience as it could possibly have been. He was friendly but professional, took a detailed history (which he remembered when I next met him on the day of the operation) and gave a very clear explanation of his diagnosis and the procedure for the repair. He filled me with unexpected confidence and was timely in confirming his advice in writing. I had the operation on 16th January 2026. It went extremely well and my recovery was swift and uncomplicated. He 'phoned me the day after the operation to make sure I was OK - for which I was grateful. I saw him for the post-op consultation on 28th January 2026, when I was discharged. The whole process was efficient and professional but at the same time strongly indicative of his clear investment in patient care. I cannot recommend him too highly.

Dr Ryan treated me with a lot of respect, although my symptoms were not life threatening, he listened to me and took my complaints seriously. When I had the surgery under his supervision, the procedure and recovery process and next steps were explained to me very clearly. I knew exactly what the surgeons were doing to me and what the benefit and also risks of having the surgery was. On a personal level I really appreciated how comfortable he made me feel throughout the entire process. Also today when I had my post op check up (months after the surgery, later than ideal, but not his fault at all!) he remembered me and seemed genuinely invested in me as a person which isn't something I was expecting, given how many patients he must see! If you are reading this Doctor Cheong then I wish you all the best! :)

Daleswood Health is like a breath of fresh air in the midst of health services in the UK. My GP tries to the best they can but frankly they just cannot be flexible and I'd spend visits trying to to fit in their calendar, leaving me waiting for a rushed 10 minute appointment only to then refer me somewhere else. Something had to change. I'm lucky enough that I can spend a little to get a great service and Daleswood Health really deliver exceptional service. My recent visit was for a mole removal. In and out within 50 minutes and the mole had been removed, fantastic service from Dr Oliver Denton and also not forgetting Mary on reception. So glad I've found them. Definitely my go to for health services and fully recommended from me.

From consultation to follow up after surgery, you cannot ask for anyone better than Mr. Freites. I felt comfortable and well informed about my surgery and what I could expect afterwards. But what really ment the most was the fact that he acknowledged my fibromyalgia, taking into consideration how the fibromyalgia would respond to the stress of surgery, doing whatever he could to limit that stress, even down to words of encouragement and sometimes it’s just the little things that help the most in healing. Thank you Mr. Freites, so glad I picked you to do my surgery.

1)I found the signage to the main lifts and to Lyndhurst rooms confusing. There should be signage in the ground floor lift lobby saying which departments are on which floor. I have been complaining about this since 1971. 2)The excellent group portrait of the Royal Free consultants in about 1970 which used to be on the ground floor but has now been removed to the 12th Floor no longer has the key saying who they are. This is a digrace and an insult to the memory of a fine group of men (and about ten women), The key should be found and reinstated immediately.

From the initial outpatient appointment to the procedure , everything was smooth and pleasant. I didn’t have to wait long when I visited the facility and it was not difficult to book appointments for further treatment. Karla, Michele and all the nursing team were very kind , thoughtful and accommodating. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed and they didn’t leave questions unanswered. Dr Woollard was very attentive and helpful. He was reassuring and made everything clear. He was understanding and showed empathy .

Different time slots and sessions or more flexibility. Clearer communication between services and funders. Digital timetable, links and resources could benefit from being clearer/more easy to find. Mixed bag of staff, although the weaker ones did go quite quickly it still felt as though I was a bit of a guinea pig and didn't get as much from those sessions. Core team very caring, compassionate and supportive. Environment is an downside, a shared office building is not the best setting.

Thyroid blood test. Never been before. Autistic so some challeges : a sign on door to push would have helped, it was intimidating, couldn’t get in straight away. An area with reduced lighting to wait would have reduced my overwhelm, was very close to waiting outside. Became very overwhelmed trying to explain which test I had booked, knew there was a fault on the website. Although the situation was rectified satisfactorily, it was still an overwhelming, triggering experience.

I had received lots of information beforehand and felt confident that Mr El-Hasani was eminently qualified as he had been highly recommended to carry out the operation. On the day everything was fully explained by him and his staff. In particular the anaesthetist was very helpful, friendly and conference inspiring. Overall staff care was great and it felt like nothing was too much trouble and was carried out in a relaxed and friendly way.

Professor Tony Kochhar

Professor Tony Kochhar was available on time, had read my case notes and asked the necessary questions to reach a understanding on my issue in the same appointment. He also recommended an MRI to confirm the findings that weren't visible. He was through, professional and polite. I would highly recommend professor Tony Kochhar to anyone who has issues within his remit.

I just had my final appointment with Mr El Daief having had repair surgery six months ago. I highly recommend Mr El Daief, , he is the very best consultant I have ever seen. He is kind, thoughtful, patient and extremely professional. He has changed my life and I cannot thank him enough!!!
