My experience at GenesisCare Surrey was amazing. I chose to have private MRLinac radiotherapy for my prostate cancer in order that my treatment would have the minimum impact on my life and I was not disappointed. I was given an initial appointment within a week of getting approval from my health insurance. As my partner and I were travelling from some distance and staying in Guildford during the 11 days it took for my five treatments, the radiographers were very flexible in arranging the dates to suit us. GenesisCare offered to pay taxi fares for us to travel each time, but as the distance was too far we chose to stay and were amazed when they offered to contribute to our hotel bills, The building was modern and purpose built and the reception area was pleasant, bright and the staff friendly with tea, coffee and snacks on tap. Parking was easy and right outside. The MRLinac suite was similarly well done and the radiographers were friendly, helpful and keen to make things as easy as possible. It was nice to be taken into the control room to meet the team rather than them being shut away behind the glass. All of my treatments started on time and the last two appointments were rearranged so we could leave a day early. The whole experience felt more relaxing than attending a normal medical establishment, in fact more like being at a high-tech research institute. There was a follow-up call from a radiographer after we had been at home for a week to check how I was doing. The MRLinac treatment gave me very little in terms of side effects during the treatment or afterwards and meant we able to explore Guildford and the surrounding area when I wasn't having treatment. The whole experience was much preferable to the standard radiotherapy which would have involved 20 treatments over 4 weeks with months of hormone treatment. I felt confident that the use of MRI scans during treatment ensured the radiotherapy was precisely targeted to give the best results and to limit any damage to other organs. It did require me to lie in the machine for 25-40 mins and to ensure my bowels were empty and my bladder was half full at the time which was a bit tricky. The radiographers were very patient in giving me advice and support to help me achieve this although some more advice at the beginning would have been useful. If you have the option to have treatment at GenesisCare then I can thoroughly recommend it.

The security and reception staff were absolutely wonderful - welcoming, professional, and efficient. When I went up to the 3rd-floor neurology department, there weren’t very clear directions on where to check in, but I eventually found the desk (ironically, not the easiest task for someone visiting a neurologist!). After checking in, I was seen quite promptly. The neurologist herself came out to collect me - something I didn’t realise until we were already in her office, as she hadn’t introduced herself. I think my presence uneased her and I even commented that I thought she was the porter, as that’s what I had seen with other patients being escorted in. Unfortunately, the appointment itself was disappointing. The neurologist came across as very judgmental and accusatory, suggesting that my symptoms were exaggerated or imagined, despite my clear explanations and the observations of my colleagues, doctors, specialists, and family who have witnessed my neurological decline. When she asked about my profession, she seemed skeptical that I could perform my job without issues, which was uncomfortable and disheartening. I have a follow-up appointment with a neuropsychiatrist, but honestly, I’m not looking forward to it. I can only hope they’ll be more open-minded and empathetic.

I was referred to Mr Saha by my BUPA GP following the observation of a prominent pulsation on the left side of my neck, with palpation indicating an enlargement of the carotid artery just below the angle of the jaw. From the outset, Mr Saha demonstrated exceptional professionalism and clinical expertise. He took the time to listen attentively to my concerns, thoroughly reviewed the referral details, examined me and explained next steps with clarity and assurance. His calm and methodical approach immediately put me at ease. I felt confident in his assessment and appreciated the way he communicated complex medical information in a way that was easy to understand. The consultation was both efficient and comprehensive, and I left feeling reassured and well-informed about my condition and the recommended investigations. I am grateful for the high standard of care I received and would not hesitate to recommend Mr Saha to others seeking vascular consultation.

Dr. Mackay is one of those rare doctors who with knowledge, experience, interst and genuine warmth. It is always lovely to meet with her, She takes care of her patients very well and peronally. Every consultation feels warm and personal. I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis at the age of 26. She cautght it very very early and picking it up so early on, I must say - she is exceptionally talented. I am 30 now, and this disease is out of my life forever (Fingers crossed ). Had she not been there to help me diagnose it at an early stage, I dont know what wouldve happened. I am glad I got the opprtunity to connect with her. So humble and so patient. She takes her time, never rushes, and genuinely makes you feel cared for and understood. She truly takes the time to listen and explain everything clearly. Her medical knowledge is phenomenal, a perfect blend of heart and expertise. Honestly, if there were 7 stars to give, she deserves every single one!

Mr Amro Hassaan

Dr Amro Hassaan was the only doctor who took the trouble to explain what my problem was. I’d been suffering for years with severe headaches which had got to the point they would last for weeks and the pain was unbearable. Dr Hassaan took the time to fully explain all options available to me and completely put my mind at rest. Whenever I visited him I was always warmly greeted and was put at ease. Eventually for me it was decided surgery was the only solution and prior to the surgery date Dr Hassaan took the time to answer all my questions and even called me back once while he was on holiday! The surgery was a success and the aftercare was brilliant, I really felt I was in safe hands. Also want to mention Dr Hassaan’s secretary, Kerry she was wonderful too, she always came back straight away with answers to my questions. He is a true dedicated professional, a gentleman and just the best doctor I have known.

Mr Hassan Elhassan has been incredibly thorough and caring throughout my deviated septum journey – from the initial examination and diagnosis through to preparing me for my first surgery. The operation went smoothly, the staff were brilliant, and I was given plenty of clear guidance to make sure I healed properly. As it was my first ever surgery, I had a lot of questions, and Mr Elhassan always took the time to answer them without ever making me feel rushed or silly for asking. The procedure has been a real success – I’m breathing so much better now. The difference compared to before is night and day, even while I’m still healing. I’d also like to mention Anastasija, who has been incredibly helpful with scheduling and answering follow-up questions along the way. Overall, it’s been a top-class experience, and I’m genuinely glad I found Mr Elhassan and his team!

Absolutely amazing, I cannot fault the care and support I have received. I may not be able to climb mountains, but I can carry on with my walking, taking care of myself at the same time. I couldn't have wished for a better Consultant to carry out the surgery and the follow up consultation enabled me to verbally express my gratitude for what he has done. Avni is absolutely brilliant and I cannot recommend her enough. She started treated me during pregnancy but I have continued to see her after. Avni is really caring and intuitive and the only osteopath that I have been to who really manages to address any pain that I have been experiencing. She doesn't insist that you come back week after week, unless the treatment specifically requires a few sessions. She takes a holistic approach to wellness and provides really useful tips and recommendations that have helped me in all aspects of life.

Dr Karolina Afors is highly skilled and took plenty of time to read through my pages and pages of notes at our first appt. After being dismissed by other doctors, she was a breath of fresh air with lots of ideas, and she was invested in helping me get my life back from pain. The medicines she has prescribed me for my endometriosis have changed my life and she always has a range of suggestions for symptom management of many conditions. Cannot recommend her enough. I've got my life back with her help.

The Spire has excellent facilities (car parking, waiting area, consulting rooms etc) and the reception staff are very attentive and helpful. The “formal check in” using an iPad is an unnecessary hurdle for patients to negotiate. The earlier system of just checking in with the receptionist was much better. My appointment with Dr. Balerdi was on time and a very useful session. Re. Dr. Balerdi himself, my very postive comments are in an earlier section.

As I have very difficult veins to draw blood from, Prof Rakhit recommended that I should ask for Andrew in the phlebotomy department....which I did. They were very helpful in helping me to come in at a time when he would be there. Andrew was brilliant. He managed to find a vein without any trouble and I hardly felt the needle! My thanks to everyone for making this a much less stressful experience than it usually is!

Saara Majid is my dentist. I cannot overpraise her attentiveness throughout the appointment. The main purpose was a filling, so a local numbing injection was required. There was minimal discomfort. Afterwards, Saara assisted me into my parka, led me to the patient toilet, waited until I emerged, conducted me back to reception to a suitable chair where I could await my taxi, prior to handing over to a receptionist.
