Relevant Landmark Publications:
I’m passionate about evidence-based practice and strive to provide my patients with the most up-to-date, evidence-based treatments and surgical techniques that I deploy in my practice.
Here are two examples of major projects that I have conducted and have made huge impact on refining my surgical techniques and practice in hip & knee replacement surgery:
Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) provide the most reliable evidence on the effectiveness of interventions. In this project, I studied all RCTs ever been published on the subject of total knee replacements which involved 403 trials in 47,675 patients. The results of this landmark paper are published in the prestigious American Journal of Arthroplasty. Due to its academic and practical significance, it was supported by a dedicated editorial by some of the most influential and leading knee replacement surgeons in North America.
Similarly, I studied all RCTs ever been published on total hip replacements which involved 312 trials in over 34,000 patients. The results of this landmark study were also published in the prestigious Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Always professional, always a pleasure to see him.,he makes everything so clear to understand. His understanding and his excellent standard of care is superb .
Quite anxious on my referral for right knee replacement but after meeting Mr Matar he soon dispelled them giving me reassurance and confidence. Mr Matar is obviously skilled at his trade, but also a true gentleman. First procedure done and highly delighted with the result so far and Mr Matar has put me forward for my second left knee procedure in the new year. Thanks to you personally and all the wonderful staff at The Park for your outstanding attention and care.
Well what can I say. Got there at 7am and taken to my own room within minutes. Pre checks done by the nurse and seen by Anaesthetist And Then Mr Matar The consultant surgeon. Taken down to surgery at about 8.15am and given an injection in my lower back prior to operation . Staff very friendly which made me feel very relaxed. Must have fell asleep and come round in recovery at 9.30am. Could not believe how quick and efficient this was. Spent rest of the day in my room with plenty of visits from the nursing staff. Again very friendly. I was never in any pain throughout the procedure even though I was only taking paracetamol. Given exercises to do over the following weeks plus doing some of my own. It’s been just over 6 weeks and walking without aids normally. I cannot believe how well this has gone throughout. I cannot thank the staff and the consultant enough. Don’t know what I was worried about. Thanks again to everyone
