Mr Nick Ohly is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialising exclusively in hip and knee replacement surgery, with sub-specialist interests in robotic assisted surgery, and complex and revision knee replacement. He has performed over 3000 joint replacements and he is the highest volume surgeon using the Mako robotic system in Scotland (more than 1000 cases to date). He treats patients from across the country, both in the NHS and in his private practice at Nuffield Health Glasgow Hospital. He is invited to teach internationally on advanced techniques in hip and knee replacement, and he is also active in clinical research, with papers regularly published in the orthopaedic literature.
Mr Ohly completed his medical degree at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2001 and he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He completed his specialist orthopaedic training in Edinburgh, followed by a Fellowship in Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. In 2014 he was appointed to an NHS consultant post at the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital, where his practice is focused exclusively on hip and knee replacements, and he supervises an international robotic & revision arthroplasty fellowship. He has been consulting privately at Nuffield Health since 2019.
He is passionate about providing high quality patient specific care, with new patient appointments scheduled for 30 minutes to allow sufficient time for a comprehensive discussion about any proposed treatment, and he always makes himself available for any questions before and after surgery.

I had a very positive experience with Mr Ohly and his support staff I found all the nurses and Phsio staff professional and knowledgeable
Had TRHR performed by Mr Ohly and so happy with the outcome. Everything went smoothly with minimal pain and discomfort. Mr Ohly explained the procedure and visited me in recovery after surgery to give me an update and reassurance.
From my initial consultation with Mr Ohly, I felt confident that I was in good hands. As I left his office that day, limping and in pain, I was relieved to have a plan tailored to my needs and a clearly identified route map through the process of having a total hip replacement. The procedure itself was expertly carried out by Mr Ohly, impressively with only a small, neat incision. The recovery period was very well supported, both in the short time spent in hospital and in subsequent check-ups and physiotherapy sessions. My progress at home has been steady and much quicker than I had anticipated. At my 8 week review consultation with Mr Ohly, (after walking in normally and happily!), I used the word ’liberated’ to describe how I felt - liberated from pain (yes, I’m pain free!), liberated from painkillers (no, I haven’t needed any since week 3 post- op!) and liberated from the strain of trying to cope with everyday tasks and the limitations on my mobility. I’m now enjoying long walks pain-free, and still can’t quite believe the transformation in such a short time, thanks to Mr Ohly’s expertise and the skill of his team.
All in all I experienced a very positive and organised clinic. No long waits, I managed to park easily.
I have been extremely pleased with the outcome of the knee replacement surgery I underwent under the excellent care of Mr Nick Ohly . I also mention the very helpful discussion with Dr Jibu Joseph Vennattuparambil Rappai , Anaethetist prior to surgery . Both of whom I would most definitely recommend I
I was very comfortable and well looked after. I was a little disappointed with the food which I thought should be better in a private hospital.
The care I received was faultless. Everyone was kind and professional.
Mr Ohly could not have been more helpful. From my initial consultation through to my post surgery follow up everything was dealt with in a very friendly and professional manner. When I arrived for surgery I was limping slowly with a very painful arthritic hip. On the day after surgery I was walking slowly and normally with crutches but with no arthritic pain. Post op healing has gone extremely well and and exceeded my expectations.
Full hip replacement on the 17th December date agreed to suit my schedule. This was after a few outpatient visits , XRay and MRI scan
My experience with Mr Ohly was entirely positive from start to finish. He was professional, reassuring and clearly very skilled. I felt confident in his care throughout, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of my surgery. I’m incredibly relieved and grateful.
Mr Ohly is a very profession and competent surgeon. He has great patient empathy and is a sensible decision maker.
