Mr Nick Ohly is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialising exclusively in hip and knee replacement surgery, with sub-specialist interests in robotic assisted surgery, and complex and revision knee replacement. He has performed over 3000 joint replacements and he is the highest volume surgeon using the Mako robotic system in Scotland (more than 1000 cases to date). He treats patients from across the country, both in the NHS and in his private practice at Nuffield Health Glasgow Hospital. He is invited to teach internationally on advanced techniques in hip and knee replacement, and he is also active in clinical research, with papers regularly published in the orthopaedic literature.
Mr Ohly completed his medical degree at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2001 and he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He completed his specialist orthopaedic training in Edinburgh, followed by a Fellowship in Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. In 2014 he was appointed to an NHS consultant post at the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital, where his practice is focused exclusively on hip and knee replacements, and he supervises an international robotic & revision arthroplasty fellowship. He has been consulting privately at Nuffield Health since 2019.
He is passionate about providing high quality patient specific care, with new patient appointments scheduled for 30 minutes to allow sufficient time for a comprehensive discussion about any proposed treatment, and he always makes himself available for any questions before and after surgery.

A very positive experience in a very friendly atmosphere where everyone was very skilled and supportive I couldn’t be happier with the outcome which is testament to Mr Ohly’s expertise Being listened to by all staff was so refreshing and reassuring I would certainly recommend Mr Ohly and the Nuffield hospital unreservedly Thank you!
Mr Ohly was very clear in his explanations throughout the process. At every stage, I felt comfortable and confident that the operation would work and so it has.
I could not be happier. The operation was quick and recovery quick. I receive nothing but professional helpful and friendly advice throughout the whole stay in hospital, as well as pre-and post-operatively. The healing of my scar has been particularly impressive. This robotic technique minimise tissue trauma and that was reflected in how fast my recovery has been. I am so impressed and the outcome is life improving for me. I would recommend Mr Nick Ohly without hesitation.
Nick Ohly was ever informative on the procedure from when I first met him . He has a lovely manner about him that keeps you at ease about the whole procedure that I was facing regarding my Knee Replacement . That’s two knee replacements I have done ( Left and Right) by Mr Ohly .
I would highly recommend Mr Ohly. He explains what will happen clearly, and answers any queries you have. His professional yet approachable manner instills confidence.
When I first visited Mr Ohly I was in a tremendous amount of pain and had been for over 12 months. Within 24 hours of my operation I no longer had the pain just some general discomfort. Mr Ohly had explained the operation and what to expect and although I was rather nervous about having the operation both Mr Ohly and the anaesthetist put me at ease. I cannot fault the care and attention I received, it was excellent .
My overall experience has been exceptional. I am now fully recovered and pain free. I have had no problems at all after my operation and have a very neat scar. Mr Ohly and his team were very professional and put me at my ease and talked me through everything that would happen. I would highly recommend Mr Ohly.
