Dr Matthew Robert Gibson

Dr Matthew Gibson is a Consultant Radiologist practising at Spire Dunedin Hospital, the Royal Berkshire Hospital and Berkshire Imaging in Reading. He is a general radiologist with extensive experience in interventional and gastrointestinal radiology, as well as expertise across a wide range of imaging techniques.

He graduated from the University of Nottingham Medical School in 1986 with a Bachelor of Medical Science and Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. He trained in general medicine in South Manchester and obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 1990. He went on to complete specialist training in general and interventional radiology at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, gaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists in 1996.

Dr Gibson was appointed as a Consultant Radiologist with an interest in interventional radiology at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in 1997, and at the same time began practising at Spire Dunedin Hospital and through Berkshire Imaging. Over more than two decades, he has built substantial expertise in interventional radiology, including peripheral vascular and arterial interventions, venous interventions such as vascular access procedures, and image-guided biopsy. He also maintains a specialist interest in cross-sectional imaging with applications in gastroenterology, gynaecology and oncology. His wider clinical practice covers CT, MRI, ultrasound, urological and vascular radiology.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Gibson has published more than one hundred research papers and has held various management positions at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. He is currently Clinical Lead for Vascular Services there. Since 2018, he has also served as Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at Spire Dunedin Hospital. He is a member of the British Society of Interventional Radiology and the Society of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology.
