I was referred to Newmedica Newcastle for eye cataract surgery by my optician. I had my first eye surgery done in September, and my second eye done in December. I received excellent service from all the Newmedica colleagues whenever I visited; for my pre-surgery consultation, the surgeries themselves, and the post-surgery visits. Those working on the reception were friendly and made me feel welcome. The waiting area was clean and tidy, with hot drinks available. The colleagues who did the testing, pre-surgery administration, and post-surgery follow up checks were all very knowledgeable. They took me through the surgery preparations, explaining the process as they went, putting me at ease and answering any questions. After surgery they made sure I was aware of what I needed to do over the following three weeks to ensure my eyes healed completely. The surgical team were very proficient, and I felt I was in safe hands. The procedure was explained at every step, putting me at ease. The consultant for my first procedure was Nicholas Wride. The procedure itself took just under 3 minutes, which I had not expected, as internet searches indicated it would take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. I was so impressed and, as I was told I could have the same consultant for the cataract removal procedure on my second eye, I didn’t hesitate to ask for Nicholas Wride again. My second procedure was equally as expertly performed, and this time took 3 minutes 20 seconds. There was no pain during the procedures and only very slight discomfort straight afterwards. Other than the pain relief eye drops that were put in for the surgical procedure, I didn’t need to take any painkillers at all. The hardest part for me was remembering to use the post-surgery eye drops the clinic provided, as my eyes felt that good. Three weeks after surgery, I attended the clinic for post-surgery follow up checks. I was signed off from the clinic after the follow up check on my second eye. My vision is now excellent, and I only need to use reading glasses for small print. Before the surgery I wore varifocal lens glasses at all times. I wasn’t expecting the improvements in my sight to be quite so good, so I’m pleased I took up the opportunity to have my cataracts removed and really pleased that it was Newmedica Newcastle who did the procedures and looked after me and my sight so well. Very impressed by Mr Howard from the first referral and pre-op information. He answered my questions personally in a friendly and totally professional manner. The open AAA surgery went well. Excellent care on the vascular ward with honest advice. Mr Howard visited the ward several times and reassured my concerns. He answered my post-op questions personally, and I just had a follow-up clinic with him, which again reassured me. I can contact him directly if needed. I've been very impressed with the the whole process from the screening program at 65, through rapid referral when it was triggered. He gave me a planned operation date at the first referral which held. The elective journey has been smooth and impressive throughout.

Miss Sascha Dua is a great professional—respectful, knowledgeable, and caring. I was very scared to be in a breast cancer unit for the very first time, but she was wonderful at breaking the ice and making me feel comfortable. She was attentive and taught me how to properly perform self-examinations, which made me realise I had always been doing them incorrectly. Her team is also amazing and very caring. They sent me letters in advance introducing the team and explaining in detail how the process works, which was incredibly helpful. My husband and I were very happy with the whole process. I truly wish all doctors’ appointments were this supportive.

The initial assessment was professional, very reassuring, and the diagnosis was accurate. I was happy to book the extremely effective follow-up sessions, and I’m now completely pain-free. The rehabilitation exercise programme was tailored to my needs, and I found the phone app provided to guide me through those exercises at home very helpful. I have no hesitation in recommending this practice.

We paid £240 to the consultant and gained no extra knowledge or benefit. She basically couldn’t help because she said I needed fertility and not recurrent miscarriage. She said there was a fertility consultant there I should have booked with. Then why not offer to not charge me and book me with right person? Isn’t that what healthcare should be about rather than about taking my money? There is no triage service in place to make sure I got the right appointment. I feel robbed at a time where I am vulnerable.

Disappointed I had to wait 20 minutes for an appointment first thing in the morning, however everything else was positive. Waiting area and treatment room were both tidy and clean. Staff were friendly and professional. Some additional work required and dentist took me through options for treatment and resulting cost. Dental work was very good and pain free(!). Payment all completed to my satisfaction. Overall, a positive experience

I arrived on time and the receptionist was in situ. As a private patient self funding I went through the paper work and had to wait only a couple of minutes before I was taken through for the Echocardiogram. The same sonographer had carried out the procedure the year before and she was so welcoming which immediately put me at ease. She was efficient and professional and I had every confidence in her.
