I wanted to share some feedback on my recent appointment. I felt the consultant was quite dismissive and used language that may not have been appropriate — for example, when feeling the lump I was told immediately “this is not cancer.” While I have personal experience in this area and have been through it before, for someone new to this situation such a conclusion could feel very daunting and unsettling. The appointment also felt rushed, particularly after the ultrasound (as the mammogram machine was broken). I left feeling as though my questions were seen as unimportant, and that I was being hurried out because “nothing was wrong.” While I accept the results, I had hoped for a more considered discussion — especially as I’ve had similar lumps removed in the past and wanted to understand the difference this time. Instead, I was simply told to manage the pain, given a leaflet, and advised to take primrose oil. This did not feel like the most supportive approach. To then receive a letter a couple of hours later — before the mammogram had even taken place — dismissing me from the service, felt like a rushed and premature conclusion. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as the experience could be improved by allowing more time for questions, more sensitivity in communication, and reassurance for patients at what can be an anxious time.

My visit for follow up physio after shoulder replacement was , on the whole very good . That said and only because you have asked for an honest opinion , the only problem that I encountered was communication between myself and the practitioner. I know that many medical practitioners come from abroad and that they are excellent at their job . Because I struggled to understand sometimes key parts of conversations , this led to misinterpretation on my part . I consider that I am a good communicator but I did find it hard . All that said the physio has put me back on the right track and hopefully the outcome will be fine . It’s hard to criticise good people . Hopefully this will help with your understanding of patients experiences .

Dr Brand planned and oversaw my chemoradiotherapy. He put me at ease during our initial consultation, taking care to ensure that I understood the details of my overall treatment plan and the aim of achieving an eventual cure. Throughout his involvement, I experienced his manner as warm and responsive to my perspective as his patient. I appreciated his kindness, as well as enjoying his reciprocal sense of humour. He touched base regularly until the completion of his treatment, to review my progress and any side-effects. I will miss our contacts, but I know I can approach him in future about any radiotherapy-related issues I have no hesitation in recommending Dr Brand to future prospective patients.
