About Associate Professor Alex Day
Mr Alex Day is a expert consultant eye surgeon specialising in laser eye surgery and cataract surgery at Moorfields Private Eye Hospital, London. His areas of clinical expertise include LASIK, transPRK and SMILE laser vision correction, and lens surgery including refractive lens exchange (RLE) and cataract surgery with extended depth of focus and multifocal intraocular lens implants, and also implantable collamer lens (ICL, implantable contact lens.
Mr Day qualified as a doctor from St George's Hospital Medical School, London, with a double Distinction and 1st Class BSc (Hons). His Ophthalmology training was initially on the south London rotation, moving to Moorfields Eye Hospital in 2007 and undergoing 10 years of additional training. During his Higher Surgical Training at Moorfields, he worked as a Specialist Registrar whilst completing his PhD at University College London, later becoming an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer and Fellow. Mr Day undertook fellowship subspecialist training in Cataract, Glaucoma and Corneal transplant surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital, while also worked as a part time refractive surgery fellow to Mr Julian Stevens, as a full time refractive surgery fellow and as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in LASIK, SMILE and cataract surgery at the London Vision Clinic.
Mr Day is on the UK General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register, became a Member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (MRCOphth) in 2007 and later a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) in 2013. He also holds the Royal College of Ophthalmologists DRCOphth, Royal College of Ophthalmologists Certificate in Laser and Refractive Surgery (CertLRS) and the Ulster University Postgraduate Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery (PGDip CRS, Distinction). He is an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists' CertLRS examination.

Get there early and have a cup of tea to calm your nerves! The staff are excellent. Kind and professional and dont rush. Everyone knows exactly what theyre doing and it all runs like a well oiled machine. It feels like youre in very safe experienced hands.
Mr Day appeared very knowledgable and listened to my wants and needs and this reflected in the advice given. I felt reassured by his guidance. He explained the procedure very clearly and explained what post-surgery life should look like. Risks were outlined as well as any mitigation should complications arise. In summary, I felt confident in trusting Mr Day to carry out my procedure.

Mr Day is direct In a professional and comforting way. It is clear his knowledge is vast, but he doesn’t push through without taking the time to ensure you have a full understanding of what he is conveying. I felt listened to and incredibly capable hands. During surgery, he is comforting and reassuring in a professional and polished manner. At moments when I felt discomfort in the scenario, I was reassured greatly by his demeanour.
I was enormously grateful to be seen immediately by Mr Day ahead of another potential treatment. His diagnosis would determine whether or not that treatment would go ahead. I am always reassured by his professionalism and confidence in handling an ongoing condition.
Alex is brilliant and what is one of the things that i fully respect is that he is refreshingly honest. Explained everything in an easy to understand way. Delivered on everything he said he would do. Told me all I needed to know about the different lens options and why we were going for the ones we went for. Great surgeion, great experience
