About Mr Mathew Varghese
Mr Mathew Varghese is a highly qualified Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon with a specialisation in shoulder and elbow problems. He offers tailored comprehensive upper limb practice to his patients. Mr Varghese has extensive experience in performing arthroscopic (keyhole) surgeries for the shoulder, but he also offers open surgery for certain conditions, such as advanced shoulder arthritis requiring shoulder replacement. He works closely with his team to offer non-surgical management options when appropriate, ensuring that his patients are always offered the most appropriate treatment according to their individual situation.
Mr Varghese graduated from Leeds University Medical School in 2000 and continued his training in Yorkshire, entering the Yorkshire Orthopaedic and Trauma surgical training programme in 2007. He achieved his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2011 on his first attempt. He worked at the internationally renowned Derby Upper Limb Unit and completed over 15 months of fellowship training.
In April 2015, Mr Varghese was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at Mid Yorks NHS Trust. He continues to provide excellent care and treatment for his patients.

Mr Varghese is an amazing doctor. I was advised what would happen during operation and had numerous follow ups. He also recognised that the pain I had after surgery was too extreme so did an urgent MRI to understand why I had so much pain. It showed cervical radiculopothy which now means my NHS doctor can treat me when previously they had put the pain down to the tendon issue I had the operation for. Thank you Mr Varghese for resolving my tendon issue, your empathy, support and for getting me a correct diagnosis. Couldn't have asked for a better doctor.

Mr. Varghese is an excellent surgeon from the very first meeting, I have had surgery on both shoulders, to my last appointment he has been superb. Never once have I felt nervous about my operations his care and professionalism have been outstanding. I would recommend him without question.
Mr Varghese is very professional and communicates in a way that as a lay person I was put at ease and felt comfortable in asking questions. I would recommend him to anyone with any of the symptoms I had. The consultation was not rushed and ended with him asking if there was anything else he could help with.
