Professor Fahed Youssef

Prof Youssef operated on me to fix an inguinal hernia (in fact direct and indirect) using laparoscopy. He explained the mesh was about the area of a mobile phone case due to the size of my hernia. He works closely with anaesthetists he knows well. Having never had a general anaesthetic I was a bit nervous but I have to say it was so stress free and easy. I was in the theatre before 9am and heading home just after 2pm. I woke up feeling fine, just like having had a nap. After the operation my pain was less than I expected and, one month on, whilst I am still not doing anything too strenuous (as per advice), in my day to day life (including by driving and commuting) I have pretty much forgotten I had the operation. I am not sure all “hernia surgeons” have the skill and experience to perform my operation laparoscopically (the alternative being a larger external incision). I would recommend Prof Youssef to anyone needing a hernia operation, and say to them, “don’t worry, you are putting yourself in the safe hands of excellent surgeon”. If I develop a hernia on the other side in the future (which he also checked during the operation) I won’t hesitate to get in touch with Prof Youssef, nor will I be concerned about the operation or the recovery, given the positive experience.

Corneal transplant due to Fuch's Dystrophy in right eye. I cannot recommend the team at Midland Eye more highly as the process was great from start to finish. It has been nothing short of a miracle to get my sight back. In particular I would like to acknowledge the work of Mr Barua. He is an outstanding surgeon who has amazing knowledge, understanding, experience and skill with this type of surgery. He translates complex medical language in to simple explanations to describe what Fuch's Dystropy is, and what the practical procedure will be on the day of surgery. He has a calm, caring and professional manner and is very approachable. His support team of ophthalmologists and optometrists all added to the professional care I received. Along with Kate Gerrard Refractive Clinical Liaison who managed and co-ordinated the overall process. She has been outstanding in her approachability, ability with managing the diary and after care. An excellent team. 10/10.

I underwent complex joint-preserving surgery performed to the highest standard. Because I also manage a hip and back condition, Mr Abbasian took a truly holistic approach to my recovery, supporting me through the initial weeks and continuing to do so to this day. This ongoing support isn't just the icing on the cake—it is the 'five-star cherry' on top.

The friendliness of the staff immediately stood out — everyone was kind, attentive and genuinely caring. The medical team was highly professional and I felt completely confident in the treatment I received. All procedures and examinations were clearly explained, which made me feel calm and well-informed throughout. The ward was clean, comfortable and very well organised, and the level of care was outstanding. Nurses were always available, supportive and patient. The discharge process was smooth, with clear instructions and thoughtful follow-up guidance. Overall, I am extremely grateful for the care I received and would highly recommend this centre to anyone.

As a doctor myself, I can easily say that Dr. Zekri is hands down one of the best hand specialists in the country. I suffered a hand injury playing football, as goalkeeper. Dr. Zekry spotted my scaphoid fracture, which was missed by the radiologist upon initial X-ray. He immediately changed my treatment and I am now following the right protocol, without which there would’ve been drastic consequences that would only be noticed months from now. He is extremely knowledgeable and explained to me my treatment options, and was very empathetic and kind. I look forward to fully healing in 5 weeks, and I’m sure I am in safe hands.

Her recommendations included dietary improvements, suggested tests, and environmental adjustments. Moreover, I can’t recommend her enough. Once I was collected from reception, the surgeon and staff were very efficient, friendly and reassuring and quickly dispelled the apprehension I felt about the procedure. Everything went very smoothly and easily. I never felt I was being hurried, and everything was explained to me very clearly. The only little thing that could have been improved is that I waited in reception at least 30 minutes beyond my appointment time (when I was at my most anxious) without any message about how long the delay might be.

I was referred to the clinic via the NHS, as I had found a lump in my breast. The clinic was easy to find with plenty of parking. The facilities were excellent and all the staff I met were friendly, professional and helpful. There is some waiting, but it was not excessive and refreshments and reading material were available. I was made to feel very comfortable at all times and it made a difficult situation much better for me.

The ACU private patient admin team are non responsive. Imagine being an ex-cancer patient who is trying to start the IVF process quickly but can’t even get through to the staff to book an initial appointment. Why is it so difficult? I’m planning to pay thousands of pounds to ACU as a private patient and I can’t even get the guarantee that I will get decent communication. Please do something about it’s it’s terrible

Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital

My only concern arose from a planned operation being cancelled in the week before it should have occurred. I accept it may have been due to unavoidable circumstances but given that I was in pain and discomfort the additional two month delay was disappointing. In all other respects the Nuffield Exeter hospital was faultless - particularly good in how the pre operation assessment and subsequent tests were handled.

Vein removed on my leg was explained well and performed professionally in a well organised hospital. Mr Maytham and all of the theatre staff made sure I was comfortable and took great care of me during the procedure making sure I felt no pain. Recovery was not too long, the very small incisions healed quickly with no scarring, the unsightly swollen vein has gone. I am very pleased with how my leg looks now.
