Mr Sung is a Consultant Ophthalmologist who specialises complex Glaucoma management and Cataract related conditions, such as angle-closure glaucoma surgeries, Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgeries (MIGS), endoscopic cycloablation procedure and iStent microscopic trabecular bypass surgery. Velota is based at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre; one of the biggest and busiest eye hospitals in the UK.

Mr Sung qualified for medicine in 1993, at the University of Wales, after which he undertook specialist training at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham. Velota was then offered a highly sought after fellowship in Glaucoma, at the Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, after which he was appointed his current consultant position in 2004. As Mr Sung is passionate about further training and development, he later gained his Masters qualification in 'Medical Leadership' at the University of Warwick in 2013. He is also active in the research community, taking time to supervises post-graduate research projects and also authors glaucoma publications in scientific journals. He is also the co-founder of the Paediatric Glaucoma Society.
