Mr Ian Hunt is a supremely skilled surgeon and a truly lovely man.  I have a complex history of severely painful rib issues that have required surgical intervention, and he has managed my case with compassion and care. He was the first clinician to take my pain seriously and commissioned the diagnostic imaging that confirmed his strong suspicion that I had slipping rib syndrome.  Because Mr Hunt works closely with the world's leading rib imaging specialist, Dr Ali Abbasi, he is able to gauge exactly how ribs move in real time and to propose the best course of action to manage them. Only a year ago, things would have looked very bleak for someone like me with recurrent symptoms following resection. However, Mr Hunt has stuck by me through thick and thin, and has recently developed a new and very elegant technique to stabilise resected ribs that has proved absolutely life-changing for me. I have had a superb surgical outcome and I can only express my gratitude and delight as I go from strength to strength.   On the day of the surgery itself, Mr Hunt was incredibly kind, as I had got myself rather worked up. He then checked in on me several times as I recovered. His nursing team were also wonderful and I felt very cared for. My pain was well-controlled and my incisions were minimal. His anaesthetist was superb, and somehow contrived to manage things so that I did not vomit, which in itself was a minor miracle.     In addition to being right at the forefront of his field, Mr Hunt is also very caring clinician who understands how awful slipping rib syndrome can be. He has always taken the time to discuss things in detail and explain everything clearly. He follows his patients closely and has lots of helpful, targeted suggestions to optimise post-operative recovery. I feel enormously lucky to be under Mr Hunt's care.

It's not fair that being an NHS patient meant that we couldnt use the disabled parking, which was empty, right outside the hospital, meaning a much longer and uncomfortable walk. We we greeted well upon arrival and called through almost immediately. Although I found the nurse abrupt and abrasive to start with, I put this down to her working from the computer, checking through info. Perhaps that wasn't her strong point with technology. I have many complex needs, including some communication needs, being ADHD and Autistic. I clearly hadn't understood some of the portal questions and answered them differently to its intended expected responses. Perhaps some more understanding around neurodivergent conditions would be helpful and clarity around the context of their questioning, rather than to feel berated for replying "I fear spiders". The question asked for my fears or what I am scared of, if it was specifically regarding the procedure, it should have been clearer. I was clearly struggling with the bright lights in the office, holding my srm up to shield my eyes from the lighting, even commenting to my daughter who I took with me, my questionnaire replies would have told her I am photophobic, but because of how she initially presented to me, I felt unable to raise my concerns and ask for the lights to be adjusted. (This resulted in triggering a migraine after I left). Im still working on advocating for my own needs. Once the computer work was complete and she faced me to go through expectations of the operation day, she mellowed and warmed, her body language positively changed. This helped reduce my heightened anxiety. She was very good when it came to taking my bloods and I didnt even feel it, for the first time ever. I left feeling far less anxious than I did upon arrival.

The admissions brochure fails to state that family members are not allowed to stay with patients during the pre-operative wait. This is a significant omission, as it creates avoidable anxiety for patients who are already nervous about their procedure and are only informed of this restriction upon arrival. The pre-op nurses showed poor bedside manner when I asked about this. Instead of offering reassurance, they quoted “hospital policy” and then gave reasons that felt dismissive and inaccurate — for example, claiming that “too many people come in and out of rooms,” when in reality only one nurse completed paperwork, followed later by the surgeon and anaesthetist. I was also told I would be going to theatre “shortly,” even though I knew (correctly) that I would be waiting another 1.5 hours. My family member could easily have stayed with me during that entire period, as is standard in the Ulster Independent Clinic and in my previous NHS experiences. The lack of engagement from the pre-op nurse beyond basic paperwork questions made the situation feel even more uncomfortable. The pods themselves felt more like small, bare cells than a calming space prior to surgery — no TV, no artwork, just two chairs and a table. It was far from a soothing environment. In contrast, the theatre staff and post-op nurses were outstanding. They were friendly, proactive, and reassuring, and they made up for the negative pre-operative experience. One final issue: the staff arranging my discharge medication did not check my notes and prescribed a medication I am unable to take. Because the pharmacy had already closed, the only solution was to remove it from the prescription entirely.

Dr Amro Hassaan was the only doctor who took the trouble to explain what my problem was. I’d been suffering for years with severe headaches which had got to the point they would last for weeks and the pain was unbearable. Dr Hassaan took the time to fully explain all options available to me and completely put my mind at rest. Whenever I visited him I was always warmly greeted and was put at ease. Eventually for me it was decided surgery was the only solution and prior to the surgery date Dr Hassaan took the time to answer all my questions and even called me back once while he was on holiday! The surgery was a success and the aftercare was brilliant, I really felt I was in safe hands. Also want to mention Dr Hassaan’s secretary, Kerry she was wonderful too, she always came back straight away with answers to my questions. He is a true dedicated professional, a gentleman and just the best doctor I have known.

I have been struggling with CPAP therapy. By being completely determined I tolerate the mask and therapy, with what seems to be high marks, according to statistics -machine generated, (low AHIs, 8 hours no leaks etc.) However I don't feel, and never have felt rested.-six months on. I contacted professor Vir as it seemed to me that there must be other factors at play and my local hospital could only offer CPAP and nothing else. My consultation with Professor Veer was excellent. He took a detailed history, made an initial examination and suggested possible underlying causes and further examinations. His communication skills are exceptional and he is obviously very much on top of his speciality and passionate about it.

Had MRI scan had to wait c30 mins later than booked time. Person after me was c50 mins after booked time. This was immediately in the morning (8:45am) as well so something went wrong. Perhaps need to stagged appointments and leave larger gaps between clients to give some slack other wise can get big delays down the line (me 30mins next person 50mins)

I found the staff to be very helpful and friendly, and the consultants to be very professional and informative. The only negative aspect of my visits is that on my first appointment the radiographer who I was due to see had apparently not been informed that I had arrived. Consequently there was a wait of just over half an hour before I saw him.

I went to see Dr Cumming, I found his excellent warm & friendly. My appointment was at 1.30pm & Dr Cumming suggested an MRI scan this was done at 2.30pm one hour after my initial appointment. This is amazing service. I found all staff right from the receptionist to the radiographer amazing. The clinic was spotless as well
