I've had at least three clinical encounters with Mr. Howard relating to carotid web artery issues which he diagnosed following an opthalmic 'stroke on 24 April. On each of these visits (with me feeling very apprehensive) he showed both clarity and professionalism, combined with warmth, gentleness and empathy in explaining my condition and putting before me the benefits of carotid surgery and the risks should I elect not to proceed. But the choice was left to me. He supported this with data which gave me (and my son, a mathematician who was with me) the confidence to go ahead. He additionally mentioned that he had performed hundreds of carotid surgeries generally and specifically some 20 carotid web surgeries, all of which had been successful. That boosted our confidence even more. But what I would always remember was that he went beyond the call of duty on two occasions (one a Sunday) to answer questions I still had while, I believe, he was on holiday. It raised my esteem of not just him but the JR and NHS! The operation on 14 August, though an ordeal for me, went very well. Mr. Howard excelled himself. I recovered fully and was reviewed by him on 21 October, following a duplex scan and given an all clear. I am very grateful to Mr. Howard for his exceptional skills, competence and his inspiring level of care and concern for me during a particularly stressful time. His actionable balanced guidance was easy to understand; including steps for diagnosis, potential treatable actions that may be required; including on how best to manage my symptoms with a holistic approach and being proactive. Prof Tony Kochhar grasped my future needs as I am proactive rather than reactive person and he focused on solutions with me to make positive changes. He is also in tune with ethnicity and linked with possible causation on musclo- skeletal problems. For this I’m very grateful. I’m very impressed and I definitely recommend Prof Tony Kochhar for any one who suffers with shoulder issues or any musculoskeletal-skeletal problems.

From the moment I arrived at Kingsbridge, I was warmly welcomed by reception. As soon as I was guided to the waiting area for admission, I was greeted by a lovely nurse name Katie, who was then with me throughout my day surgery stay. Katie showed great empathy and understanding of my apprehension prior to surgery and made me feel really at ease. She answered all of my questions in a professional and caring manner. The consultant who I saw for my referral appointment came to see me prior to surgery, which again was very reassuring. From the anaesthetists to the after care nurses, Amanda and Jo my whole surgery experience was one of relief and gratitude for all the exceptional care I received.

Absolutely amazing, I cannot fault the care and support I have received. I may not be able to climb mountains, but I can carry on with my walking, taking care of myself at the same time. I couldn't have wished for a better Consultant to carry out the surgery and the follow up consultation enabled me to verbally express my gratitude for what he has done. The spinal specialist I’ve been under is outstanding. He was very positive yesterday about my condition at two weeks after spinal stenosis surgery: I was walking more upright. It was hard to note that I was only two weeks post-op.. That was very encouraging to me. He said I could begin physios next week, earlier than I had anticipated. But he stressed recovery would take several months.. He will do a further review before. Christmas. Overall I am very pleased at the way things are going and hugely grateful to the surgeon and clinic.

He carried out a thorough examination of my nose and ears and carried out a cleaning of my ears. He provided thorough verbal and written advice on the measures I can take to prevent flare ups and treatment I can undergo to stop long-term issues. This was practical advice that I hadn't received before and has drastically improved my quality of life.

Mr Wong was brilliant. On my initial consultation he reviewed my scan reports and provided me with a number of possible options to move forward. I eventually opted for surgery and Mr Wong operated on me. I am 4 weeks post surgery and feel like a new person. I know that surgery is always a big and sometimes not particularly easy decision but I couldn’t recommend Mr Wong highly enough.

I had been having regular headaches and watery eyes. I was offered an early next day appointment which consisted of an eye test and back of the eye scan. Everything was explained to me throughout and I was offered sound advice on how to treat the watery eyes. The back of the eye scan gave me piece of mind.

Visit was not as satisfactory as usual. Nurse did not take a viable sample and process had to be repeated subsequently. When new sample was taken, wound was not staunched properly and I had to return from the car park to be cleaned up and the wound properly staunched.
