The appointment itself was very disappointing. The neurologist Dr Farrell came across as judgmental and dismissive, suggesting that my symptoms might be exaggerated or imagined, despite my clear explanations and the supporting observations of multiple professionals and people close to me. I explained that my NHS GP, my HCA specialist, and my Bupa doctor had all independently recognised my neurological decline and recommended that I see a neurologist. I also made it clear that my symptoms were not stress-related - my NHS doctor had actually prepared me for this appointment by enrolling me in a stress management course specifically to rule that out beforehand. Despite this, the neurologist repeatedly challenged what I said, often rephrasing my statements inaccurately. At one point, she remarked, “You’re the only one who has witnessed and confirmed this,” even though I had stated several times that healthcare professionals, work colleagues, and family and friends had all noticed my decline. I found this approach extremely frustrating - I may be forgetful due to my condition, but I am not an idiot. How can my symptoms be “made up” when I have, on several occasions, accidentally taken double doses of my prescribed medication simply because I forgot I had already taken it? To be completely honest, I also felt there may have been a cultural element to her attitude. She appeared to be Caribbean by her accent, and as someone of Caribbean heritage myself (though born in the UK), I sensed a strong cultural bias. Her facial expressions while I spoke often appeared strained or uncomfortable, almost as if what I was saying physically pained her to hear. Historically, Caribbean women are often expected to be strong and stoic - to “just get on with it” - and it felt as though she viewed my seeking medical help as unnecessary or self-indulgent. At times, it even seemed as though she believed I should be grateful simply to be seen by a private specialist, despite the fact that the appointment was covered by my Bupa insurance. Overall, the experience left me feeling unheard, judged, and disrespected. When she asked about my profession, she seemed surprised by the level I work at and the respect I have earned in my field, which only seemed to increase her discomfort. At one point, I had to speak firmly to reiterate that I am highly regarded in my role. I have a follow-up appointment with a neuropsychiatrist, but after this experience, I am honestly not looking forward to it. I can only hope that they will be more open-minded, empathetic, and willing to engage with both my account and the clear evidence provided by other medical professionals.

My father was seen short notice on Wednesday the 5th of November which was very much appreciated. Unfortunately he did not have a good experience on his visit. The consultant came to see him in the waiting room and made him roll up his trousers and examined him in front of other people in the waiting room. He made him walk across the room with his trousers rolled up and as my father's hearing is not good he began to talk really loudly to him in front of these other people. I was with him and to be honest it was very degrading and embarrassing for a 79 year old man. He more or less told my father to get on with it and stop taking any antibiotics that were prescribed by his GP. My father ended up having an infection in his knee but unfortunately this man was very dismissive when my father said the knee was sore and had a lump on it and made us feel like we were just bothering him.

I walked into Abbington House at rock bottom physically and mentally. The staff were very friendly, understanding, caring and reassuring. Making me feel calm and at ease. I have made significant progress and I am leaving a different person with new tools and knowledge to help me succeed on the journey. The Abbington House clients made me feel welcome and included, extremely friendly and I am grateful to have made many friends in the 5 weeks I have been here. My incredible therapist listened, un-judgmental and emphatic to me, who's care was brilliant and I will not forget the unreplaceable advice given to me. Mr Ho has been my consultant for about 10 years, ever since I lost half my sight in my right eye. Since that time he has helped me make informed decisions regarding my treatment.. He treated the cateract in my left eye and the improvement was immediate. I thought that was the end but he suggested that my macular hole in my right eye could be improved with invetrioretinal surgery. He explained in detail what would happen and I felt confident in his expertise. It was no surprise that my treatmenrt was a complete success . I have always found Mr Ho ,pleasant, informaitive. and caring I have complete faith in his judgement and ability. and feel he does the very best for his patients.

The hospital is soulless. The staff seem to wander about aimlessly. I sat waiting in an empty waiting room, no water or coffee. My consultant was late, though no one told me. There was no one to ask, I had to try and find someone to track my consultant down. A nurse appeared then sat in the waiting room on her phone on a video call and then on Instagram, she didn’t acknowledge me. They found my consultant who then disappeared again , no idea where she went. She was over a half an hour late for my appointment, not great but made worse that no one bothered to come out and tell me. Very poor experience and not what I expected from this hospital.

I needed my bloods reviewed at three months on T. I needed to prompt PIH to set the process off, which was fine but unfortunately my blood results weren't straight forward so needed more time to get reviewed and get things sorted out before my script could be issued. PIH did pull out the stops and got everything sorted in time, so I am grateful. They now have provided a helpful flow chart so I know what to expect at each milestone. All good.

Dr Segal and his team are top-notch. However perhaps they did not pass on the information to The Harley Street Clinic that a single-chamber Pacemaker was required for my procedure on that day. Or maybe the Clinic itself slipped up; I have no way of knowing. Consequently there was an uneccessary delay of several hours while locating this particular pacemaker from an outside source. Apart from those hours, everything went well.

The facilities are at an excellent level, clean and well presented. Ensuite rooms with bathroom/changing room in the outpatients consulting rooms. Overall welcoming and good environment especially as its a Hospital.

I was pleased that Mr Mukherjee discussed the various treatment options fully with me. I found him to be an effective communicator. I was disappointed that the information given to me by my GP on 26th September about the requirement to have a scan prior to the referral to Holly House delayed my receiving the required treatment.
