David is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon. He recently retired from Northampton General Hospital were he worked for over 20 years.
He qualified from The Royal Free Hospital, London in June 1990 having also undertaken a BSc at St. Mary’s Hospital.
His specialist Orthopaedic training was based at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Stanmore, and he was appointed a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in May 1999.
David completed a fellowship in arthroplasty and sports medicine at SPORTSMED.SA, Adelaide, South Australia. The fellowship involved the treatment of patients with hip and knee arthritis, with operations using a range of different implants to suit the patients’ needs. Athletes from a diversity of sporting backgrounds were treated. Knee ligament and “cartilage” injuries were particularly common and SPORTSMED had a national reputation for the treatment of these conditions.
He went on to gain a Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine.
He has been Honorary Orthopaedic Surgeon at Northampton Saints Rugby Club since 2004. He continues to participate in many sports including golf, tennis, Padel and skiing. He represented England in the Rugby Students World Cup in 1988 and played for Saracens Rugby Football Club first XV. This sporting background allows him to understand the effect an injury has both physically and psychologically on an athlete. He has obtained a Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine.
His level III qualification in Pre Hospital Immediate Care in Sport (PHICIS) allows him to participate as a pitch side Immediate Care Doctor (ICD) at home games.
David has lectured both nationally and internationally and enjoys teaching junior Orthopaedic surgeons and medical students.
He continues to work at The Three Shires Hospital and has a special interest in treating knee ligament, meniscal and chondral injuries and for primary and revision joint replacements of the hip and knee. He has developed a sub speciality interest in treating athletes from various sports presenting with knee ligament and cartilage injuries.

David was excellent, I was just a little disappointed he hadn’t received my MRI scan from the hospital prior to my appointment.
Brilliant bed side manor, engaging, attentive, reassuring, professional
Excellent was made to feel relaxed and listened to. All tests explained in full. More than happy and would definitely see Mr Stock in the future should I need too.
Mr Stock is a very personable individual. He makes you feel confident and relaxed, he has completed both my right and left hip replacements I have had no concerns with his professionalism. He also has a cheery character with an excellent sense of humour.
From entering and leaving the building everyone I came across were very professional and polite. Even got an apology that I had to wait longer than usual for my x-ray but then again that was not an issue overall my visit was very pleasant.
First visit after full hip replacement. Discussed problems and received a clear explanation of what I could do to help them.
I've had previous treatments bt Mr Stock, always found him to be professional and positive.
David and I have worked together for a number of years at Northampton General Hospital. He is an experienced surgeon with a good reputation. He is also an excellent colleague whose prime focus is patient's care, and he leads by example.
