It's not fair that being an NHS patient meant that we couldnt use the disabled parking, which was empty, right outside the hospital, meaning a much longer and uncomfortable walk. We we greeted well upon arrival and called through almost immediately. Although I found the nurse abrupt and abrasive to start with, I put this down to her working from the computer, checking through info. Perhaps that wasn't her strong point with technology. I have many complex needs, including some communication needs, being ADHD and Autistic. I clearly hadn't understood some of the portal questions and answered them differently to its intended expected responses. Perhaps some more understanding around neurodivergent conditions would be helpful and clarity around the context of their questioning, rather than to feel berated for replying "I fear spiders". The question asked for my fears or what I am scared of, if it was specifically regarding the procedure, it should have been clearer. I was clearly struggling with the bright lights in the office, holding my srm up to shield my eyes from the lighting, even commenting to my daughter who I took with me, my questionnaire replies would have told her I am photophobic, but because of how she initially presented to me, I felt unable to raise my concerns and ask for the lights to be adjusted. (This resulted in triggering a migraine after I left). Im still working on advocating for my own needs. Once the computer work was complete and she faced me to go through expectations of the operation day, she mellowed and warmed, her body language positively changed. This helped reduce my heightened anxiety. She was very good when it came to taking my bloods and I didnt even feel it, for the first time ever. I left feeling far less anxious than I did upon arrival.

The admissions brochure fails to state that family members are not allowed to stay with patients during the pre-operative wait. This is a significant omission, as it creates avoidable anxiety for patients who are already nervous about their procedure and are only informed of this restriction upon arrival. The pre-op nurses showed poor bedside manner when I asked about this. Instead of offering reassurance, they quoted “hospital policy” and then gave reasons that felt dismissive and inaccurate — for example, claiming that “too many people come in and out of rooms,” when in reality only one nurse completed paperwork, followed later by the surgeon and anaesthetist. I was also told I would be going to theatre “shortly,” even though I knew (correctly) that I would be waiting another 1.5 hours. My family member could easily have stayed with me during that entire period, as is standard in the Ulster Independent Clinic and in my previous NHS experiences. The lack of engagement from the pre-op nurse beyond basic paperwork questions made the situation feel even more uncomfortable. The pods themselves felt more like small, bare cells than a calming space prior to surgery — no TV, no artwork, just two chairs and a table. It was far from a soothing environment. In contrast, the theatre staff and post-op nurses were outstanding. They were friendly, proactive, and reassuring, and they made up for the negative pre-operative experience. One final issue: the staff arranging my discharge medication did not check my notes and prescribed a medication I am unable to take. Because the pharmacy had already closed, the only solution was to remove it from the prescription entirely.

I've had at least three clinical encounters with Mr. Howard relating to carotid web artery issues which he diagnosed following an opthalmic 'stroke on 24 April. On each of these visits (with me feeling very apprehensive) he showed both clarity and professionalism, combined with warmth, gentleness and empathy in explaining my condition and putting before me the benefits of carotid surgery and the risks should I elect not to proceed. But the choice was left to me. He supported this with data which gave me (and my son, a mathematician who was with me) the confidence to go ahead. He additionally mentioned that he had performed hundreds of carotid surgeries generally and specifically some 20 carotid web surgeries, all of which had been successful. That boosted our confidence even more. But what I would always remember was that he went beyond the call of duty on two occasions (one a Sunday) to answer questions I still had while, I believe, he was on holiday. It raised my esteem of not just him but the JR and NHS! The operation on 14 August, though an ordeal for me, went very well. Mr. Howard excelled himself. I recovered fully and was reviewed by him on 21 October, following a duplex scan and given an all clear. I am very grateful to Mr. Howard for his exceptional skills, competence and his inspiring level of care and concern for me during a particularly stressful time. I believe I speak for many others in his care. Thank you, Mr. Howard, your JR team and Thank you NHS! Mrs. Swee Roddie

After six years of infertility, we finally found IVI London and Dr Tomasz — and I honestly don’t have enough words to describe how grateful we are. Dr. Tomasz Lukaszewski made my husband, and I feel an immediate sense of calm from the first appointment. Nothing ever felt too much trouble, and he always took the time to listen and explain everything clearly. Our first round of IVF in 2022 was successful and we welcomed our beautiful miracle baby girl in 2023. The whole clinic - nurses, embryologists, and admin team were just as wonderful as Dr Tom — so supportive, approachable and genuinely caring. We always felt like we were in safe hands, surrounded by people who truly wanted the best for us. We were back in this month for - fingers crossed - baby no 2!! The experience was just as calm and special as the first time. To Dr. Lukaszewski and everyone else at IVI London — thank you from the bottom of our hearts for giving us the greatest gift imaginable. You changed our lives, and we’ll never forget the kindness and expertise that made our dream come true.

I walked into Abbington House at rock bottom physically and mentally. The staff were very friendly, understanding, caring and reassuring. Making me feel calm and at ease. I have made significant progress and I am leaving a different person with new tools and knowledge to help me succeed on the journey. The Abbington House clients made me feel welcome and included, extremely friendly and I am grateful to have made many friends in the 5 weeks I have been here. My incredible therapist listened, un-judgmental and emphatic to me, who's care was brilliant and I will not forget the unreplaceable advice given to me. My advice from a former patient here is if you are wiling to work hard for your recovery, you have all the tools, great professionals and environment available to you.

I saw Dr Gulati after experiencing some worrying heart symptoms that had started affecting my confidence when exercising. From the very first appointment, he was incredibly reassuring and took the time to really listen to my concerns. He explained everything clearly and in a way that made sense, which immediately put me at ease. What stood out most was how personable he was, he didn’t just focus on the medical side, but also understood how much my love for fitness means to me. The thorough tests and explanations gave me real peace of mind, and getting the all-clear has allowed me to train again without that constant worry in the back of my head. I left feeling genuinely supported and confident that I was in safe hands.

Excellent service from initial consultation through to my procedure. Having had very complex abdominal surgery 20 years ago, I was extremely apprehensive about having any further investigations on my abdomen but Mr Ismail and his team were incredibly calming and reassuring. Mr Ismail is an absolutely outstanding surgeon, managing to complete my procedure, under extremely difficult circumstances given my level of scar tissue, with barely any discomfort . The whole procedure was explained clearly to me throughout and I would not hesitate to thoroughly recommend him to anyone requiring gastric investigations/procedures. A huge thank you again to Mr Ismail and his team!

He took the time to explain her diagnosis and treatment options clearly, which made me feel comfortable and confident in his care. He goes beyound and updated my husband regarding treatment plan and is actively involving the family in management plan. We are following up with him for 2 years so far and he always draws attention to details, kind, well knowledgable, and patient throughout the treatment journey. I could not recommend him more!

As an elderly gentleman, I made an appointment with Mr Karuppaiah following a nasty fall in which I severely damaged my wrist and elbow. His attention to detail was very reassuring and my personal concerns were always discussed, with no question too small. He has a reassuring presence and gentle approach. No doubt my successful operation and recovery was down to his surgical stills and knowledge. I cannot recommend Mr Karuppaiah highly enough ‘what an excellent surgeon’.

Great service. The consultant spent plenty of time with me asking lots of questions about all aspects of my life as well as symptoms so I felt my care was very holistic. I had the opportunity to ask questions and explore different treatment options. The consultant was very empathetic and I really appreciated her knowledge of menopause which I have not been able to access through my GP. Very happy with the service.

The Cystoscopy department was the height of professionalism from the receptionist right down the line too Mr Bhat and his team. I was kept in the loop on my procedure by Mr Bhat at all times and felt like my opinion counted. This is one if not the best team it has been my pleasure to have been under in the NHS. And would like to thank them all once again for putting me at ease Through the whole procedure.

Top class. Little to no waiting time for appointments/surgery. This was my first taste of private medicine. I do not have Insurance so was rather worried at the potential expense, and whilst the treatment could not be described as 'cheap' it was not nearly as expensive as I feared it would be and I regard it as being good value for money
