Practice Plus Group Hospital, Barlborough

I had knee replacement surgery at the Practice Plus hospital at Barlborough on 29th November. The pain I experienced during the two weeks following the surgery on a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate at 8 to 9. Now that I am in my eight week of recovery my pain level is 1 or2 I had a problem in that during the first 2 weeks after surgery I was hardly able to sleep due to the pain when lying down and some nights I had zero hours of sleep. After discussion with the hospital pharmacist it became evident that one of the pain killing medicines I had been prescribed had insomnia as one of it’s side effects. After stopping this medication and taking an alternative my sleep pattern returned to normal and my recovery accelerated. From the experiences of friends who had undergone this surgery I knew that physiotherapy was the key to a successful outcome. The physiotherapy I received at Barlborough was exceptional. By following their exercise plans and receiving guidance at my follow-up visits I am now able walk for one hour virtually pain free, ride my static bike at home and if all goes well should be able to ride my bike on the road in a few weeks time. The whole experience from reception to the clinical appointment with Dr Ben was very professional, thorough, friendly, welcoming. Dr Ben made me feel at ease, asked very pertient questions, listened carefully, carried out the pertinent tests and gave me a clear summary of how we should proceed. He obviously has great understanding and knowledge of these sensitive issues medically and emotionally which made me feel I was in good hands and could trust him. In addition, I had the test results and a summary letter of the appointment from him in 24 hours- so very efficient.

After seeing several gynecologists, Mr Raza was at last the most reassuring and straight forward in explaining why having a robotic laparoscopic hysterectomy would be the best way forward for me. I am now 6 weeks post op and I am feeling great. I am continuing to be amazed by how small my scar is (2cm!). I would highly recommend Mr Raza to any women doubting whether to have the operation. Every person is different of course but he is so knowledgeable, kind and professional. His PA - Sukhy - has been extremely helpful, supportive and always at the end of the line if I had any question - even during the Christmas week. Thank you !

I had a online assessment, I was seen by Wioleta Cholewinska. She was really lovely, welcoming and put me at ease. She made me feel comfortable and was understanding and listened very well. The longest waiting part was from filling out the forms to the assessment, but even tho this was a wait, I was expecting it to be a lot longer than it was so that’s great. The actual booking of my assessment was super quick and easy. They sent me a date and time that was for an appointment within 14days of them sending me the appointment details. I’ve heard this can be a lot longer elsewhere so I was surprised about this in a good way.

Nick from Physio Jack Studios was really great. I had what I thought was a typical calf strain but all the standard treatments from another physio did not heal it. 4 weeks out from a marathon, I was unable to run 1km without pain. Nick went through a very thorough diagnostic appointment, corrected my diagnosis to an overloading issue at a specific calf/achilles muscle complex and guided me through multiple plyometric exercises and a progressive running plan to allow me to finish the marathon in 3hrs 40mins. Could not recommend him highly enough, super knowledgeable, detailed and passionate 👍

The staff seemed very friendly and efficient in what seemed to be quite a busy little private out patient's department. I had to have quite a few test's and checks but didn't have to wait long in-between different department's. When I got to see the consultant he was very professional and explained to me exactly what my condition was, how it was affecting my vision . He then explained how he proposed to try to correct the problem, the likely time scale for the procedure, and the cost. I also felt that he was very clear to manage my expectations when the procedure does go ahead.

I have not had a very positive experience at all and feel that the diagnosis is not accurate and the reasons given and report are not satisfactory - despite the report saying what i said word for word the analysis is simply not effective and does not align with my symptoms - there was no point having a consultation of the doctor only went off the forms and did not correlate information - also there was no understanding of why i thought i was adhd - i have done extensive research in this field and it would have been better to have an adhd checklist than the autism on

Mr Nima Abbassi-Ghadi treated me with care and professionalism from my very first visit, he explained everything in detail and made me aware of all the pro's and con's of having my surgery. On the day of the surgery he made me feel completely at ease about the operation and what was going to happen. At my 6 week follow up appointment he again treated me with professionalism and explained everything in detail once again. He is a credit to the hospital and if I needed any treatment again in the future I would be more than happy to have him as my consultant.

I was concerned about my prolapsed and the discomfort it was causing. I had been referred to community gynaecologist after several visits to my GP and felt anxious about the wait to see someone for an assessment. Mr Martin Furrigia after an examination advised that my prolapse was mild and to continue with the pessaries twice a week including carry out pelvic floor exercises and to insist on a scan once I had seen the NHS community gynaecologist. His knowledge and confidence in his subject made me feel so much better and I felt less worried.

Dr.Raiman has been exceptionally supportive and thoughtful through the whole process. I have been struggling with a very painful shoulder and arm for a long time - he very efficiently organised a MRI scan. His diagnoses were very clear, he took his time to explain to me what is happening and patiently listened to all my questions. He also suggested clear plans for my next few steps so I am very much reassured. Thanks very much for all your help :)

The only area for improvement is the check-in process - quite often there is a queue of people waiting at reception and the vehicle registration screen is separate to the check-in form, which isn't very efficient. The waiting area and exam rooms are clean and tidy, the staff is friendly and helpful. I prefer coming here despite it being a longer drive than my nearest private hospital because of the great experience I've had previously.

Consultation with Dr Alice Thomas. Parking was easy Welcomed by lovely receptionist who immediately offered me a tea Met Dr Alice who immediately felt 'and relax'! Instant reassuring and lovely energy. Thoroughly talked through blood results. No rushing. We had time and I felt more me walking out of the practice than I had for weeks for speaking to someone who listened and clearly understands what we all go through with our hormones.
