I am a Consultant Gynaecologist and Minimal Access Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, where I co-lead the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE)-accredited Endometriosis Centre. I specialise in the diagnosis and management of complex gynaecological conditions, including endometriosis, pelvic pain, fibroids, ovarian cysts, and menstrual dysfunction. My clinical practice is rooted in a holistic, patient-centred approach, offering a full spectrum of evidence-based treatment options, from conservative and medical therapies to advanced surgical interventions and research-led care.
I am passionate about empowering women to make informed decisions about their health. I provide comprehensive management plans for both pre-menopausal and post-menopausal symptoms.
My surgical expertise lies in advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) and minimal access techniques, with a particular focus on all stages of endometriosis. I regularly perform total laparoscopic hysterectomies, laparoscopic myomectomies, and cystectomies, aiming to minimise recovery time and optimise outcomes. I also offer hysteroscopic procedures and have extensive experience managing menstrual disorders such as heavy bleeding, irregular cycles, and premenstrual symptoms.
In addition to my clinical role, I serve as the NIHR Research Lead for Women’s Health in Yorkshire and Humber, helping to shape the regional research agenda and promote innovation in gynaecological care. I am also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds, where I am actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students and resident doctors. My academic interests include surgical simulation training and translational research in endometriosis, with a focus on improving diagnostic pathways and patient outcomes.
I am a member of the BSGE Laparoscopic Portfolio Committee, where I contribute to the national training of gynaecologists in advanced laparoscopic techniques. I hold dual postgraduate qualifications in surgery (MRCS) and obstetrics and gynaecology (MRCOG). My specialist training was based in the North-East of England, where I worked in leading endometriosis centres at Newcastle and South Tees Hospitals. I also hold an MD in Molecular Biology of Cancer from Newcastle University.
My goal is to provide a safe, supportive environment where patients feel heard, respected, and empowered in their care. Whether managing chronic pelvic pain, menstrual issues, or exploring surgical options, I am committed to delivering compassionate, high-quality care tailored to each individual’s needs and values.

Miss Dorota Hardy listens and understands patients, providing helpful, supportive care. Patients appreciate her clear explanations and various gynaecological treatment options, including surgical procedures. My follow up online appointment with Dr Hardy, it’s always good to be seen and heard and to be able to work on a plan together with an agreeable outcome. Dr Hardy understands the complications with my health and we have a trial and error plan in place which is all that we can move with due to my rare disease aside my endometriosis complications - this feels the best route to start with and I feel confident in Dr Hardys path forward
Dr Hardy is an incredible specialist. She took time to really listen to me and gave me a clear plan, answering all the questions I had. I’m very thankful to have found her!
Dr Hardy was, as always, incredibly kind and helpful. I can’t thank her enough for the advice and support she is giving me.
I was very happy with my consultation with Miss Hardy , she put me at ease straight away was very empathetic and understanding which I needed . Thank you so much I am very grateful 🙏
I have been in serious pain for years and I was constantly told by my local GP that there was nothing wrong. Miss Hardy has been amazing with me, listening to my symptoms and concerns to tailor treatments to me. She has a genuine interest in her patients and I feel extremely lucky to have her support during the process. I have now been diagnosed with PCOS and without her support I doubt very much that I would have been diagnosed. I cannot speak more highly of someone that Miss Hardy and her lovely P.A. Jo.
Miss Hardy is an excellent consultant. She has been wonderful in helping to understand my problems and giving me the appropriate information and time needed to decide on my hysterectomy. Her operation on me and follow up has been the best. Her thorough approach and ongoing concern for my future health and well being. I could not recommend her more.
Such a good experience. I felt listened too, validated and supported.

Understanding the Link Between Endometriosis and IBS Many women with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) experience symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain, or changes in bowel habits — but for some, these may also be signs of endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the womb lining grows outside the uterus. In this article, Dr Dorota Hardy and colleagues highlight how endometriosis and IBS often overlap, and why this can make diagnosis difficult. The research encourages gastroenterologists to look for patterns such as cyclical pain, symptom flares around periods, or poor response to standard IBS treatments, which might suggest endometriosis. The paper also discusses how diet and lifestyle can help. Approaches such as anti-inflammatory eating and a low-FODMAP diet may reduce gut symptoms and improve quality of life. By raising awareness and promoting closer collaboration between gastroenterologists and gynaecologists, this work aims to help women get earlier diagnosis, more personalised treatment, and better long-term outcomes.
