I was referred to the Horder Centre for hip surgery as an NHS patient and the difference between that experience and my experiences in NHS hospitals couldn't have been more different. As it turned out, I also had two brief stays in an NHS hospital at around the same time, and experiencing a busy trauma ward in the Royal Victoria hospital in Brighton was pretty terrible. Unusually, I ended up having to have two operations in Crowborough on the same hip, so I was there for several days in all, and though no one really wants to be in hospital they do make every effort to make your stay as comfortable as possible. You get a single room with a TV (Freeview) and your own en-suite bathroom and fresh towels are brought every day. For a start, the staffing levels were brilliant. Someone was always on hand if I needed pain relief or anything else for that mattter. For every staff shiftI was allocated a care worker and a nurse, all of whom were absolutely lovely. They will help you with anything including a bed-wash or shower and if you have any questions they can't answer themselves they will find someone who can. I was regularly offered pain medication and if I felt I needed some in between rounds I had only to ring the bell beside my bed and I was usually able to have it. The food is good and plentiful and the menu choices provide plenty of variety. The staff who bring round the food as well as a trolley offering hot drinks or fruit juice are cheerful and friendly as well as punctual. Even the housekeeping staff were lovely. Although I'm sure all the staff were busy (for example, the care assistants take care of 6 patients on each shift), no one ever seemed to be under too much pressure and they always had time for a chat. They will arrange transport two and from the hospital if you need it, whether in an ambulance or by car, and even the drivers love working there. Some of the staff I met have worked there for many years, which speaks for itself. If I were referred to the Horder Centre rather than an NHS hospital or further surgery at any point I would feel confident that I would be well taken care of.

I had a great experience with Dr Patel, he really listened to me and made me feel comfortable. He recommended I get follow-up tests. There were some admin issues with this from the supporting staff - the tests had to be at a certain time of day and certain week which was explained on the after visit summary sheet from Dr Patel. However, the blood test was booked in immediately by the reception staff which lead to lots of confusion, and the scan was booked in for the following Monday but I had a call on the morning to say it was booked in with the wrong person and needs to be rearranged. I'm sure this is not representative of the clinic overall, but as my first experience of this clinic, it makes it seem a little chaotic.

Mr Barkatali provided outstanding care throughout the recovery following total knee replacement. From surgery through to follow-up, the approach was professional, supportive, and clearly focused on my wellbeing and functional recovery. At six weeks post-operation, I have made excellent progress, achieving a 0–120° bend with a strong, stable knee and no complications. The consultant’s clear communication, timely reviews, and encouragement played a key role in the patient’s smooth and confident recovery. Although the staff were amazing I found the actual cataract operation deeply unpleasant. I could see everything that was being done whilst being unable to move - the real stuff of nightmares, though the actual operation was a complete success. If I may suggest a way to make this experience a little more bearable would be to enable patients to choose their own music to listen to? As a professional singing practitioner, I'm aware how effective music can be in distraction? (I personally found the choice of radio station and programme increased the unpleasantness of the experience)

Admin team are really friendly and very helpful with any questions. They are also very quick to respond to emails which is amazing. Dr Chris Airey is brilliant, he goes through every blood marker and explains everything clearly. I transferred to this clinic from Optimale as the service and protocol I was on didn’t feel very optimal for me. In my opinion, UrbanTRT is way better and I now understand what truly personalised TRT looks like. The difference in how I feel, the communication, and the level of detail they go into has been top quality.

Mr Lee has seen me through a vitriectomy for a macular hole and subsequent bi-lateral cataract surgeries; the outcomes fo all procedures have been excellent. I cannot fault Mr Lee’s approach or professionalism. He was able to reassure me over what presented as pretty scary distorted vision and when the expected cataract developed I had no hesitation in sticking with him for those procedures too. Both he and his PA Selina have been excellent from start to finish and I am very grateful.

Very efficient, clean and high standard as expected. As an aside, I really did appreciate the way the receptionist wrote my date of birth on a piece of paper and asked me quietly if it was correct. I intensely dislike the way receptionists in surgeries etc shout out so loudly, "DATE OF BIRTH??" in public. No discretion or politeness anywhere as a rule. More importantly, perhaps, the doctor was very helpful, efficient and very kind.. Thank you.

I was kept waiting for around 40 mins. No-one informed me - I had to go and ask. The doctor was keen to hurry me because he "had to be somewhere else" He didn't examine my hips and lower back. Just said I had "very arthritic hips" which is not what Id been told before, and wasn't interested in any other possible alternatives to hip replacement. I felt dimissed and not properly heard.

Really happy with my treatment approach at Core LDN. The space is lovely and Laura is accommodating when I was running late once which really helped me out so thank you. There is parking nearby although extra restrictions mid morning so something to be aware of but it's great to have a free parking option nearby at all in London!

Overall an excellent consultation. I was immediately put at ease. Everything was explained perfectly to me with plenty of opportunity to ask questions. I was given the opportunity to be part of the on-going plan for current and potentially future treatment.
