A month ago I had the arthrosamid injection. I had never heard of it and initially I went online to find out how others were treating their oesteoarthritis. I found the Joint Clinic quite quickly and was amazed to read that this injection would last about 3 years rather than 3 months for the NHS cortisol injection. My knee was causing a lot of pain especially when the weather changed. I was unable to walk properly, I couldn't walk up or down stairs. My work involves walking and I really thought I would have to retire because of the pain. From day 2 of the injection, I was beginning to walk without as much pain, about 2 weeks later I wasn't limping or experiencing pain at all. It took about 3 weeks to be able to walk up and down stairs without pain. I no longer need anti inflammatory drugs (that was always hit or miss if they would work). I am very pleased with the outcome at the one month mark and I hope my knee pain is no more for years!

I recently had my final appointment with Simon Howard following my recovery from a ruptured Achilles tendon. Sinon has been so motivated, passionate and driven in helping me return to competitive badminton. I couldn’t have wished for a better physiotherapist to get me through this injury, and the number of times simon has helped me through both physical and mentally tough spots in my recovery have been invaluable. Later on in my treatment I still had some issues with nervous “dead spots” around my surgical site, and I was very helpfully introduced to acupuncture, which I believe had a big physical and psychological impact in recovering sensation around my ankle and Achilles tendon. Impossible to speak to anyone in Cambridge which was very frustrating. am used to being seen privately and this did not come up to the usual standard. Although the staff were very polite and friendly I felt that nobody was sure what to do and did not fill me with confidence. I have never gone privately and only seen the surgeon on the day of the operation with no follow up appointment with the actual surgeon. I was left with a cut on the skin to the left of my eye and an indentation across my eyebrow which I feel had probably been caused by the clamp used to keep my eyelid open. I was left feeling that for some reason the private sector in Cambridge was struggling. A great pity.

When the pain became unbearable, I chose to have endometriosis excision surgery with Prof Mabrouk at the Spire Cambridge Lea. My stay at the hospital was faultless. I felt completely safe and taken care of. Prof Mabrouk has an excellent bedside manner. The entire endometriosis team at the Spire Cambridge Lea is excellent. It was really wonderful to experience a continuity of care post-surgery and the team was only an email or phone call away whenever I had questions.

I had a very positive experience at my recent doctor’s appointment. The staff were attentive, friendly, and truly made me feel cared for. I was especially impressed that the doctors themselves came to the waiting area to welcome their patients (shake their hands 🤝) and personally guide them to the examination rooms — a small gesture that makes a big difference. I also appreciated that I was offered help without having to ask repeatedly, which has unfortunately been my experience at my local GP in the past. Check in and pre op preparations were fast and efficient. Post op was also good, however, as I suffer from vertigo, there didn't seem to be any medical help available for this condition. I suffered with severe symptoms following anaesthetic. I was supposed to receive a text message the day before my op to confirm, but that didn't happen. When I found the Spencer carpark, I was refused barrier entry as apparently I should have been given a barrier gate code, but I didn't receive it. So this part of my experience was stressful.

The New Vic --- now known as the 'BUPA New Victoria' --- is a smallish but excellent private hospital situated just off the A3 between Wimbledon and Kingston. It has recently been enlarged and its large Reception is now most welcoming. So far as I know, the rooms are all of the ground floor and overlook well-maintained gardens. Surgical procedures that my family and I have had at the New Vic over the last thirty years have all been trouble-free and successful.
