I had booked an echocardiogram with a female technician, and had taken the day off work to attend, but when I arrived and asked about the female technician (to confirm), I was told that a female was not available, which was extremely disappointing. I had called twice earlier in the day (before travelling to the appointment) to confirm that a female was available, but no one in the echo department answered the phone. Further, I have been attending the Cleveland Clinic since March of last year, when I had a subarachnoid haemorrhage, and had been told that my standing request for a female echocardiogram technician had been recorded in my patient profile. The staff in the imaging department seemed to be surprised that a woman having this test would insist on a female technician, which indicated a lack of sensitivity and training, and they appeared not to know how to handle this situation. So, not only did I waste my time and lose a work day due to this oversight, but I had to cancel my follow-up cardiology consultation, and now cannot take time off work to reschedule until the new year, which has created a very stressful situation for me. In my opinion, the Cleveland Clinic should always have a female echocardiogram technician on duty, for women who are uncomfortable with a male, and the front desk staff needs much better training in this regard.

Having hernia surgery is not something anyone looks forward to, but Mr Renwick and the team at Ross Hall Clinic and Hospital made the experience stress free. I was provided with clear information about the procedure, the various options for surgery and what to expect in terms of recovery times etc. My pre op assessment was extremely thorough and the operation itself was successful. I was able to return home on the same day and although I experienced some discomfort I only required two of the stronger painkillers I was prescribed and a few paracetamol during the first 48 hours. I opted for robotic assisted laparoscopic surgery for my bilateral inguinal hernia which Mr Renwick advised was likely to reduce my recovery time. My operation was exactly 6 weeks ago and I can say that I am now back to full health and ready to (gradually) get back to the gym.

I had a total knee replacement and from start to present, I have been treated amazingly. All staff are amazing and simply brilliant at their job and in particular care of patients. Special mention to Salmon (Sal) who looked after me on the day post operation. he was superb, so helpful and patient. The team that looked after me immediately post op, were terrific, so kind and understanding. Mr Gillespie's pre-operating team were so reassuring especially when I was so nervous regarding the spinal block. Thank you to everyone for such superb care and attention. Although I was in tremendous pain post op, I can now reflect and appreciate who well I was looked after and especially the individual care and attention displayed by the team - very simply 'thank you'

Prof Chinoy was very caring and thorough in his questions and trying to understand my issues. He made me feel as comfortable as possible both psychological by asking another female member of staff to beer present for some of the examination as well as physically by making sure I didn't have to do any unnecessary painful movements. He also asked what my expectations were at the start and at the end whether we had met then and have lovely it opportunity for he to ask questions and share concerns. I was also very pleased that after 25 years of being in pain every day and doctors not being able to figure out what caused it, he managed to give me some clarity on what could cause practically all of my aches and pains, which is a huge relief. I was seen by Dr Heggy and a lovely staff nurse Charlotte. Dr Heggy was fantastic he actually listened to me. He listened to exactly how I was and had been feeling. I'd been told by another Dr that there was nothing that could be done so I had to see someone for pain management. I'm in pain everyday and just wanted a resolution or at least pin point what could be wrong. Dr Heggy really made me feel heard and suggested other things before we gave up and just give me medication for my pain. Nurse Charlotte was fantastic. While Dr Heggy was looking things up and trying to find other options Charlotte spoke to me like an actual human. So thank you to Dr Heggy and nurse Charlotte for your time and patience with me. It’s always good to talk to Professor Field. He explained the process of fitting my hip replacement clearly and I saw an X-ray of my hip with the implant in place. He explained that new bone would grow round the ball. I have had no problems at all with my new hip replacement. Professor Field was happy with my movement in the joint and my walking. I am happy too. He is always happy to answer questions and it’s a pleasure to see him. I am going for a final check in 6 months. Already my hip feels very good and I am walking well. This is marvellous after a year of pain, frustration and depression.

I had a follow up appointment for more YAG Laser treatment. Upon entering Cathedral Eye Clinic you are greeted by very friendly and helpful staff at reception. Thereafter I had very detailed tests carried out by a female Optometrist who is very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Finally I had further tests and this was followed by the laser treatment by Mr Best who exudes absolute professional brilliance and is very reassuring explaining everything in detail. A truly excellent experience and I can recommend their fantastic care to anyone.

I would very highly recommend the Clayton ward. We have had two babies there and were really well looked after by kind, happy staff (doctors, midwives, assistants, catering and reception) who taught us a huge amount about how to care for a newborn. Having access to 121 support from midwives anytime day or night is just invaluable. The food was very good (for hospital food) and we genuinely looked forward to it each day - it really helped us recover as sleep deprived parents.

From the consultation to the end results, Mr Mohan was professional and responsive. He has a skill of recognising what needs to be done for my frame and body shape. I no longer have loose skin and have a flat tummy (wearing size 8-10!). The opportunity to have two consultants operating in their expert fields meant I got the best results. I would strongly recommend the Abdominal Wall Clinic.
