I had my shoulder replacement there and spent 2 nights as well (Thurs and Fri). The nursing staff and health assistants were brilliant and attentive, which I really appreciated. My only complaint is about the food staff/team, and to some degree the food itself. The food is just above ok, clearly institutional, but not with a lot of awareness of how a patient may need to handle or access the food. This may be because most of the overnight patients are there for knee or hip surgery. I don't know. But with a shoulder replacement, I can't cut anything (I tried to order things I could pick up or stab) but things like I could barely get the cling wrap off the plates so I could actually access the food were disappointing. There were times I had to eat with my one good hand, no utensil. At no point did any of the food staff notice or do anything like offer to take the cling film off for me, etc. Very perfunctory and in light of the other care received there, really stood out as lacking.

I was seen despite living in York. I’d had bad experiences of negligence and neglect from three other trusts (turned out to be cancer - having been called a hypochondriac by the lead urologist at York hospital who refused to agree even to a scan). When the cancer was eventually found, a prosthetic testicle was inserted - the wrong size and badly placed. When I was seen at the Whittington, the action plan made sense (Newcastle were advocating opening up the groin incision - as a molecular biologist this made little sense). The surgery performed, and the improvement was apparent the moment the bandages came off. This is as perfect a replacement as the highly imperfect implants allow! I’m also able to contact the department further down the line given my poor experiences elsewhere should I need further treatment. I’ll be requesting To see Mr Garaffa if possible!

I had a very successful consultation with Dr Baghai-Ravary. I found him to be thoroughly personable and approachable. Dr Baghai-Ravary was understanding of my concerns and provided clear explanations of my conditions and how they affected my lungs. I was impressed that he had reviewed my past medical history and test results (performed in other parts of the NHS) in advance of our meeting and, during the consultation, assessed additional test data that I had access to. He explained the meaning and implications of all those results in a clear and concise manner. Dr Baghai-Ravary explained his reasoning for a change in medication as part of a clear plan of action that he proposed, both in the consultation and in his letter summarising it. That was two weeks ago and I am feeling the benefits for which I am grateful.

Dr Shah took time to explain the results of the mole mapping and the reasons why he recommended one of the moles to be removed, explaining what this would mean in terms of the size of the incision and the healing process. This was information that helped me to make an informed decision. I very much appreciated his care in ensuring there was a chaperone in the room as appropriate and a female nurse during the procedure. He included in a fee a follow up call, which was reassuring and helped to mitigate any risks of possible infection going forward. He was caring and helped to put me at ease. I could not recommend him more highly.

Mr Deshmukh performed laser treatment on me after I developed a post cataract surgery problem. The diagnosis and action was very quickly and professionally undertaken, within the same day. The charges were clearly explained to me as well as the passible chances of side effects. My surgery was performed and it turned out that there were no adverse side effects. I was very pleased with the service provided by Mr Deshmukh as well as his back room staff who were very professional and courteous. I would thoroughly recommend him.
