I had knee replacement surgery at the Practice Plus hospital at Barlborough on 29th November. The pain I experienced during the two weeks following the surgery on a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate at 8 to 9. Now that I am in my eight week of recovery my pain level is 1 or2 I had a problem in that during the first 2 weeks after surgery I was hardly able to sleep due to the pain when lying down and some nights I had zero hours of sleep. After discussion with the hospital pharmacist it became evident that one of the pain killing medicines I had been prescribed had insomnia as one of it’s side effects. After stopping this medication and taking an alternative my sleep pattern returned to normal and my recovery accelerated. From the experiences of friends who had undergone this surgery I knew that physiotherapy was the key to a successful outcome. The physiotherapy I received at Barlborough was exceptional. By following their exercise plans and receiving guidance at my follow-up visits I am now able walk for one hour virtually pain free, ride my static bike at home and if all goes well should be able to ride my bike on the road in a few weeks time. Mr Rajesh Deshmukh

I had a bilateral cataract operation, performed by Mr. Deshmukh. The whole experience exceeded my expectations. The technicians who did all the assessment checks (separate and earlier appointment) were excellent. At this appointment I met Mr Deshmukh who put me at ease and we discussed the best replacement lenses to suit my needs. For me the premium lenses were the right choice. On the day of the operation the hospital staff were brilliant - professional and good humoured. The operation was completely painless and took much less time than I had anticipated. The immediate aftercare was been superb and the nurse talked me through what I had to do and just as importantly avoid doing. I was given some eye drops to use for the next 4 weeks. You quickly become expert at using them. Following the operation my eyesight was as good as I can remember it ever being. I then returned for a follow up consultation with Mr Deshmukh who confirmed that my recovery was going very well and my vision is better than 20/20. I have worn spectacles since my early teens and this is an incredible outcome. I can now proceed with my training to become a driving instructor.

Mr Farid Ud-Din

At my initial meeting with Mr Ud-Din he examined my hip thoroughly, explained the cause of my pain (which I endured for many years) with detailed reference to my x-ray and immediately recommended a full hip joint replacement. Mr Ud-Din explained how my hip joint would be replaced and size of scar to expect. Mr Ud-Din inspired confidence throughout our meeting and this has endured pre and post operation. Before my operation I spoke to Mr Ud-Din to understand the type of femoral stem, head, liner and securing technique that was going to be used; this information ensured I had a good understanding of what was involved and helped calm my nerves. 2 hours post operation I was able to put my full body weight on my new hip using crutches for balance with no pain. 4 weeks post operation I stopped using crutches, started driving after 5 weeks, no longer need pain medication and now have better hip mobility than I have had for many years. In my opinion Mr Ud-Din is a fantastic surgeon who has returned my body to the healthy state it was in 5 years ago...and for that I will be eternally grateful.

I was fortunate and privileged to be introduced to Ian Jenkins in Jan 2021 after a referral from colleagues at St Marks Hospital, North London. Having been diagnosed with rectal cancer in 2020 and undergone pre surgery radiotherapy and chemotherapy through the NHS, due to COVID backlogs with NHS procedures, we decided to go privately for future treatment and surgery - one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. Through Ian's skill and professionalism over the last 5 yrs of many surgical and personal consultations and referrals, I am still cancer free and living a relatively normal life with my family in retirement - something I feared, in the early days post diagnosis, I was unlikely to have. Ian has not only, literally, saved my life but also given me a quality of life that I could never of dreamed of after my devastating cancer news back in 2020. I will always be eternally grateful to Ian and his team for his brilliance then and now as he continues to support me and my family with regard to my future health.

I recently completed a course of CBT sessions with Dr Sharon Pettit, focusing on managing my anxiety, worry, and rumination. When I first began, I struggled significantly with social interactions, often feeling socially awkward and fixating on past conversations. My mind would race with worries about things entirely beyond my control, pushing my anxiety levels to an all-time high. It felt like I was in a constant state of fight or flight, from the moment I woke up until I went to bed, leaving me completely drained. Now, almost six months later, I've gained valuable tools to help manage my thoughts and emotions. While I wouldn’t say I’m completely cured, I feel about 75% better and am now enjoying a much happier life. I've decided to take a break from CBT for the time being, but I'm committed to returning if I notice my anxiety levels rising again.

It is now several weeks since Mr Wearne fitted me with Galaxy lens implants in both eyes and it has exceeded my expectations. My son had a surgical extraction and the procedure was very calm and relaxed for him. I was able to be there too, so I watched the whole procedure and was very impressed at how clean the procedure was, resulting in a positive experience and successful extraction, ahead of upcoming orthodontic work. Waiting times weren't too long, although for private treatment we had hoped to be seen a little sooner than we were. The practice staff were friendly and very welcoming and high standards were evident throughout, in terms of hygiene and care. My son has no pain and is recovering well.

The only area for improvement is the check-in process - quite often there is a queue of people waiting at reception and the vehicle registration screen is separate to the check-in form, which isn't very efficient. The waiting area and exam rooms are clean and tidy, the staff is friendly and helpful. I prefer coming here despite it being a longer drive than my nearest private hospital because of the great experience I've had previously.

Mr Barrass explained what the next procedure was going to be and arranged blood and urine test plus having a contrast scan. I felt completely at ease with Mr Barrass which gave me complete trust in him for carrying out the proposed procedure which he felt necessary in my case.
