I have been very happy with my overall experience at Vision Scotland Edinburgh. The staff were both friendly and professional. I was well informed regarding my choices and the procedure. I have been thrilled with the result of the cataract surgery. I was given an appointment very soon after the referral. I would however like to let you know how I felt the experience on the day of the operation could have been improved. Firstly I was not sent the Post Op information which would have been most helpful to read before the procedure. Secondly I got very cold in theatre and was given a blanket but it did take me ages to warm up. It would have been better to have been given a blanket before the procedure started. There is a lot of cold water being used which does add to the chill. Thirdly I was not told to bring sunglasses for the journey home or to bring analogies both of which I would very much appreciated as I lived over a hour away. On the journey home I became extremely uncomfortable. Finally the roof of my mouth and tongue got a little burnt I think by the coffee as they must have been a little bit anaesthetised still when I had the coffee. The coffee however i have to say was absolutely welcome and the best thing along with the toasted teacake. I found it very reassuring to have a telephone number to call which I did use. I also very much appreciate the phone call from the nurse a couple of days post op. I hope you find the above comments of use. I do not wish to criticise as overall it was an extremely good experience and I would and have already recommended Vision Scotland. ( I did tell my neighbour to ask for a blanket!)

Recently wanted an MOT to check that my heart was all fine due to having a HA at a young age. I had an ECG and a Stress Echogram procedure prior to my consultation with Mr Wilkinson. I requested to see Mr Wilkinson, as it was him who performed emergency stent procedures on me 14 years ago, and it was really great to see him again after all these years. Mr Wilkinson is top of his field and a very lovely guy. The nurse who performed my tests was really professional and friendly and very helpful. My consultation went very well and put my mind at ease. I went private as I wanted some Piece of mind and the NHS only deal with reactive situations (IE heart attack) and are not interested in supporting people years after treatments unless you have a serious issue. I can 100% recommend anyone looking to book private consultation / tests via Spite hospital. I only have one major gripe… they no longer, and for some time do not take a credit card payment (no longer use a card machine) the reasons were explained, as you can only do a BACS transfer now. I find this very unhelpful and this should be reinstated. If you have lots of spare cash around to complicate then this will not be a problem for you, but for people who use this service and it’s an extra expense, it’s more difficult. I would use Spite more if a credit card service was available.

Dr Bhatti was the perfect doctor for our pregnancy & birthing journey. We felt so comfortable the whole way through our pregnancy which was entirely due to her tremendous expertise & competency. She was incredibly thorough in making sure my wife was in tip top shape prior to the birth and the procedure itself was seamles. She managed to cater for both my wife’s very relaxed nature and my highly strung one (!) which is no easy feat. Finally the whole healing process has been a dream, barely a mark on my wife following her Caesarean section and she has had a very straightforward and painless recovery. My most recent visit was for an MRI scan which occurred in in the mobile unit. My oncologist requested a full spinal scan as well as a head and neck scan. The radiographer told me that this wasn’t possible then proceeded to ask me to choose one or the other. I wasn’t qualified to make this decision as both were equally important. There was insufficient information given as to the reason for not being able to have the scans I was booked in for, which really wasn’t good enough. Having waited quite a few weeks for this appointment I am annoyed that I will have to return next week to have the spinal scan. I expect better.

Nick from Physio Jack Studios was really great. I had what I thought was a typical calf strain but all the standard treatments from another physio did not heal it. 4 weeks out from a marathon, I was unable to run 1km without pain. Nick went through a very thorough diagnostic appointment, corrected my diagnosis to an overloading issue at a specific calf/achilles muscle complex and guided me through multiple plyometric exercises and a progressive running plan to allow me to finish the marathon in 3hrs 40mins. Could not recommend him highly enough, super knowledgeable, detailed and passionate 👍

Dr Steven Hurel

I have been a patient of Dr. Hurel for many years now (at least 8 years). He is wonderful and one of my favourite physicians. Dr. Hurel is extremely knowledgeable in the field of endocrinology. It is obvious to me that he keeps up with the latest research in his field as he will often speak about what the latest studies show. He is also kind, understanding, and very encouraging, and has a great demeanour. He takes his time with his patients and has always been available to me if I have any questions or run into any problems. He comes highly recommended.

It was a little overwhelming as I was expecting to discuss fitting a coil and whilst that was mentioned, I was advised about having surgery which was unexpected. I found myself agreeing to the surgery despite not knowing much about it. The risks were not explained and I didnt find out how the procedure would be executed or potential recovery time that might be required. I feel a bit confused about whether this is the right course of action or not. I was not pleased to receive a letter that claimed the risks were explained to me, when they were not.

Dr Sukhjinder S Nijjer

I went to Dr. Nijjer as I had some symptoms I was unsure of, having recently done sinus surgery, whether they are cardiac or sinus, to make sure I was fit for my forthcoming skiing trip. Dr. Nijjer, as always, took the tome to listen to my concerns and provided me his rational expert opinion, as he always does whenever I visit him. He also ensured my GP practice provide me with the most optimal medication for which I am really grateful, as it took convincing from Dr. Nijjer for my GP to provide me with a repeat prescription for that medication.

Working with Clemmie was a fantastic experience. Her knowledge and expertise in dealing with my health condition (Ulcerative Colitis) definitely helped us identify the nutrition gaps in my diet that were influencing some of my gut issues, which allowed us to implement changes in my diet to improve my health. Even beyond just nutrition, she also provided me with some really helpful information and guidance on living with my health condition and has given me tools and knowledge to be able to live with it moving forward.

I had an excellent experience with Dr Bhandari. He was very attentive and took the time to genuinely listen to all of my concerns. Dr Bhandari is extremely knowledgeable and explained the diagnosis and treatment plan clearly and in great detail, which was very reassuring. The echocardiogram and ECG was performed with great patience and care, with everything explained step by step. I felt well looked after throughout the appointment and treatment journey and would highly recommend Dr Bhandari.

Different time slots and sessions or more flexibility. Clearer communication between services and funders. Digital timetable, links and resources could benefit from being clearer/more easy to find. Mixed bag of staff, although the weaker ones did go quite quickly it still felt as though I was a bit of a guinea pig and didn't get as much from those sessions. Core team very caring, compassionate and supportive. Environment is an downside, a shared office building is not the best setting.

I was really happy that I chose to go to Castle Craig. It was my first time in Scotland, coming from London I was a bit nervous about what would happen but the admissions team and Justine in particular were extremely reasurring. The cleaning staff are always around, making sure everything is spotless and the therapists were so impressive and dedicated. I left after six weeks feeling like a new person with a sense of purpose in life. I can't thank everyone at Castle Craig enough!

Mr Rudol was very thorough in his explanations of my condition. He answered all my questions and concerns methodically, ensuring that I understood. He explained the further treatment options, and the pros and cons of these, in detail and with relevant statistics so that I could make an informed decision. Mr Rudol was very reassuring and approachable in all of my consultations. I am extremely pleased with his advice and my progress under his care.

Mr Swan was exceptional. From the outset, he asked all the right questions and took the time to truly listen to my concerns. He was incredibly knowledgeable and was able to identify and confirm issues that other doctors had previously missed. I felt genuinely heard and reassured throughout the consultation, and he explained everything clearly and thoroughly. Super helpful and professional — I couldn’t recommend Mr Swan highly enough.

Dr Eric is an exceptionally friendly and skilled practitioner. His work is outstanding, and he is always honest about Botox results, never encouraging unnecessary treatments. Although I’ve only been seeing him for around a year, I’ve been consistently impressed with my results. My appointments feel relaxed and welcoming and more like catching up with a friend than a clinical visit.
