About Ms Asma Sultana
Ms Asma Sultana is a Consultant Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic, and General Surgeon with a career rooted in both clinical excellence and innovative research. She qualified in Medicine and pursued a postgraduate degree in Surgery from JIPMER, Pondicherry, India, before completing her basic surgical training in the Mersey region. Ms Sultana then earned a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from the University of Liverpool by coordinating two early-phase clinical trials and conducting a systematic review with meta-analyses of randomised clinical trials in advanced pancreatic cancer treatment. Her groundbreaking research earned her the prestigious Hirshberg Award for Best Abstract in Pancreatic Cancer from the American Pancreatic Association, as well as the President’s Prize for Best Oral Presentation at the British Society of Nuclear Medicine’s Annual Spring meeting, both in 2006.
She further honed her expertise during higher surgical training in the Mersey region, subspecialising in Hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB) Surgery and serving as an NIHR Clinical Lecturer. Following this, she completed HPB with Liver Transplant Fellowships in Edinburgh, Adelaide, and Birmingham. As the HPB Clinical Reference Group Chair for Lancashire and South Cumbria, Ms Sultana collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure streamlined, high-quality patient care. Equally passionate about education, she serves as a Clinical Module Lead for Surgery for undergraduate medical education and as a Surgical Tutor for postgraduate training.

Ms Sultana was very informative she had looked at my history and ask me a number of questions examining me and giving her feedback in a way i was fully informed and understanding. I felt confident in her and once surgery was completed i have been fully recovered no more pain no more symptoms. Clearly needed the surgery which was diagnosed and completed very swiftly with her oversight. Ms sultanas caring and positive attitude was so helpful to me which gave me so much confidence in her.
