I was referred to Newmedica Newcastle for eye cataract surgery by my optician. I had my first eye surgery done in September, and my second eye done in December. I received excellent service from all the Newmedica colleagues whenever I visited; for my pre-surgery consultation, the surgeries themselves, and the post-surgery visits. Those working on the reception were friendly and made me feel welcome. The waiting area was clean and tidy, with hot drinks available. The colleagues who did the testing, pre-surgery administration, and post-surgery follow up checks were all very knowledgeable. They took me through the surgery preparations, explaining the process as they went, putting me at ease and answering any questions. After surgery they made sure I was aware of what I needed to do over the following three weeks to ensure my eyes healed completely. The surgical team were very proficient, and I felt I was in safe hands. The procedure was explained at every step, putting me at ease. The consultant for my first procedure was Nicholas Wride. The procedure itself took just under 3 minutes, which I had not expected, as internet searches indicated it would take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. I was so impressed and, as I was told I could have the same consultant for the cataract removal procedure on my second eye, I didn’t hesitate to ask for Nicholas Wride again. My second procedure was equally as expertly performed, and this time took 3 minutes 20 seconds. There was no pain during the procedures and only very slight discomfort straight afterwards. Other than the pain relief eye drops that were put in for the surgical procedure, I didn’t need to take any painkillers at all. The hardest part for me was remembering to use the post-surgery eye drops the clinic provided, as my eyes felt that good. Three weeks after surgery, I attended the clinic for post-surgery follow up checks. I was signed off from the clinic after the follow up check on my second eye. My vision is now excellent, and I only need to use reading glasses for small print. Before the surgery I wore varifocal lens glasses at all times. I wasn’t expecting the improvements in my sight to be quite so good, so I’m pleased I took up the opportunity to have my cataracts removed and really pleased that it was Newmedica Newcastle who did the procedures and looked after me and my sight so well. I had an excellent experience with Dr Vakharia. I have a long history of endometriosis and was referred to him specifically by another gynae to further investigate my condition. From the very beginning, he never dismissed me or made me feel that my symptoms were insignificant. He listened carefully, addressed all of my concerns, and involved me in every decision regarding next steps. My surgery was successful, and during my post-operative appointment, Dr Vakharia took the time to explain everything clearly and thoroughly, ensuring I fully understood what had been done and what to expect moving forward. I have immense respect for him. During my recovery, I went through a particularly difficult period with significant pain and multiple concerns. After I sent an email outlining my worries, Dr Vakharia personally called me—even though I did not have a scheduled appointment—just to check in and talk through what I was experiencing and what I should and shouldn’t do. That small but incredibly meaningful gesture went above and beyond, and I will always be grateful for it. Endometriosis is a very challenging condition to live with, but I never once felt ignored or neglected under Dr Vakharia’s care. I was treated with genuine respect, kindness, and reassurance, and all of my concerns were consistently addressed. He said something to me that no other doctor ever has: he encouraged me not to live my life in fear and to trust the process and the success of the surgery. Hearing that from a doctor was deeply comforting. I am truly thankful for the care I received and would highly recommend Dr Vakharia to anyone considering a gynaecologist. He is compassionate, attentive, and fully present throughout the entire process.

I actually did not get to use the facilities in the private wing of Charing Cross Hospital, as I was seen in neurophysiology on level three of the NHS departments. The only time I had to go up to the 15th floor was to get two forms, stamped and provide my pre-authorisation number that meant getting in a crowded lift and riding up to the 15th floor, which took a very long time as the lift stopped on nearly every floor. Then I had to go back down to level three for tests. It was actually quite stressful for someone with my health conditions to do this, and to be expected to do this administration as the patient!. The waiting area in the NHS department was not relaxing, it was very hot, no natural light was had limited/poor ventilation and the receptionist was quite rude. The medical staff were more polite. When I pay for private healthcare, I prefer to stay in the private department than in the crowded NHS areas. I gather on this occasion the tests were not available in the private wing, but perhaps another hospital where the consultant worked would’ve been able to accommodate. I was not informed that the tests would be in the NHS department.

I cannot recommend Dr Santorum - Perez highly enough. From start to finish, my C-section experience was nothing short of exceptional. She was incredibly supportive, thorough, and reassuring, especially as I went into the birth with a lot of anxiety. She took the time to explain everything clearly, answered every question with patience, and made me feel completely safe and cared for throughout the entire process. On the day of delivery, her calm, confident presence made all the difference. I felt supported every step of the way, and the surgery itself was so well managed that I felt amazing afterward — far better than I ever expected. What could have been an overwhelming experience became a genuinely positive and enjoyable moment for both my husband and me. Thanks to her compassion, skill, and attentiveness, my anxiety was eased, and my birth experience was one I will always look back on with gratitude. I am so thankful to have been in her care and would recommend her without hesitation to anyone looking for an obstetrician or considering a C-section who truly goes above and beyond.

Couldn’t fault Mr Holton, from the first consultation he really listened which I hadn’t had with other consultants in the past. Mr Holton also made me feel reassured throughout giving me the least invasive options first before surgery. As a young adult I have struggled to find a diagnosis and within the first consultation Mr Holton knew what my condition was and how to resolve it. I have had the surgery and have my life back as a result! First follow up he checked me over again and answered all questions I had especially about my recovery. I couldn’t fault the care and support that I had received and will forever be grateful. I would highly recommend Mr Holton especially for young adults who had struggled to find a consultant who isn’t afraid to operate if it is necessary.

All the staff at the Spire Hospital were helpful & nothing was too much trouble so that I felt listened to in terms of my needs & any fears I had.
