About Mr Mark Jones
Mr Mark Jones is a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon with a focus on sports knee injuries and degenerative knee conditions. He obtained his medical degree from Imperial College School of Medicine in London in 2009 and completed his higher surgical training in the Kent, Surrey, and Sussex region.
To further enhance his expertise in knee surgery, Mr Jones pursued additional training and gained international experience in Brisbane, Australia. There, he undertook a fellowship with world-renowned surgeons, specialising in knee surgery and the management of sports injuries in professional athletes. He also received training in computer-assisted knee replacement techniques.
In 2021, Mr Jones was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Trust, where he focuses on knee surgery. His clinical interests include ACL reconstruction, meniscal repair, chondral injuries, knee preservation, knee ligament reconstruction, unicompartmental knee replacement, and total knee replacement.
Mr Jones is committed to teaching and is a member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is also a faculty member of the Advanced Trauma Life Support Course, demonstrating his dedication to educating the next generation of surgeons. Additionally, he is a member of several professional organisations, including the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK), and the South East Thames Knee Study Group.

I would have appreciated a good map/plan on how to easily find the Spencer Hospital, however, other than that all the nurses were kind, thoughtful and efficient. The staff were very pleasant. Short wait to see the consultant who was very polite and welcoming. Mr Jones explained clearly my injury and gave me good instructions on how to resolve the injury to my knee.
I found Mark Jones to be very pleasant, confident & willing to listen to me & explain his thoughts & concerns about the surgery which had been recommended by my previous consultant. He explained that his criteria for undertaking such invasive surgery may not be the same as was recommended previously & that he would need to review new Xrays before making any decisions or recommendations for treatment of my knee pain. He showed me information on a new alternative treatment that could improve my pain for up to 5 years if my co-morbidities prevent me having an operation, but unfortunately this process is not covered by medical insurance. I would be very comfortable & confident in being operated on by Mark Jones & would not hesitate to recommend him to others needing knee treatment/ replacement. The environment is not very salubrious but the consultant is the most important consideration when surgery is required ! I'd be confident in his ability to perform whatever he recommends as treatment.
