    Mr Philip Stenhouse

    Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

Thank goodness we found you! My son was born with torticollis and, as a result, always slept on one side. We had no idea this would lead to the flattening of his head, especially since no advice was provided post-birth. He was subsequently diagnosed with Plagiocephaly and a 15mm asymmetry (which is classed as moderate). We felt incredibly let down by the initial lack of guidance. While repositioning could have helped in those early weeks, by the time we realised there was an issue, too much time had passed to correct it without intervention. Navigating the next steps was difficult, as we were faced with a plethora of misinformation. We had several NHS and private consultations, but no one could categorically tell us that a helmet would fix it. The "party line" from the NHS is that they don’t work, but I can now categorically say that is simply not true! We initially met with a different helmet company but got cold feet when they couldn't guarantee the results, they estimated a "best-case" improvement of only 9mm. Following a discussion with Bassel Zebian, a Paediatric Neurosurgeon at King's College Hospital, he recommended we see Dr. Stenhouse at Ahead4babies. After discovering that two of our friends had also used them, we felt reassured enough to reach out. From the very first phone call, we were sold. They were clear about what to expect, answered all our questions, and confirmed they could get the asymmetry down to 0mm. Knowing the clinic is run by craniofacial surgeons gave us total peace of mind that we were in good hands. Dr. Stenhouse, who carried out our son’s treatment, is a Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon at King’s College Hospital. He is incredibly honest about expected outcomes and will not recommend a helmet if it isn't truly necessary. After the first meeting, you are given the space to digest the information and decide whether or not to proceed. This was a breath of fresh air compared to other companies that seem to focus more on profit than actual need. While other helmets might look "flashier," they often work by removing layers as the head grows. In my opinion, this is far less effective than Dr. Stenhouse’s approach, as he bespokely trims the inside of the helmet to accurately adapt to the head as it grows. Our son wore his helmet for 17 weeks in total. We eventually agreed it was time to stop at 1mm asymmetry rather than risk overcorrection. Throughout the process, the 24/7 WhatsApp support team was fantastic, making the entire journey incredibly smooth. To any parents in doubt, if your child has moderate or severe asymmetry and you are past the first 12 weeks where repositioning is most effective, get the helmet! It is extremely unlikely to improve significantly on its own. It is also VERY important that you take action early while their head is still soft to see faster results, ideally as soon as they can support their head (around 4–5 months). I hope this helps other parents navigating this process. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me on social media. I’ll leave you with a picture of the result, one happy baby with a perfectly shaped head!

I waited over an hour to be seen for my pre admission appointment. After being admitted and been shown to my room I was left for 5 hours in a cold room without anyone checking on me or giving me information about when my operation would be. Staff only turned up when I called and was then able to get some water as I was then advised that my operation was being delayed for a few hours. Short staffed. Slow to respond to buzzer calls. Staff always seemed to be busy doing something else other than looking after patients. Quite noisy ward during the day with people’s loud voices/laughing. Outdated facilities, no overhead bed light so had to have the main big room lights on all the time, which I could not control. I was moved to a different room after my operation as the first one did not have sufficient heating. The en-suite bathrooms are very outdated. Very short shower hose. In my second room there were 2 Rentokill boxes in shower. 50% of staff were friendly. I had major abdominal surgery. My night nurse was very compassionate and took very good care of me for 2 nights. I was discharged with the insufficient amount of painkillers to take home and without a physio assessment or much information about what symptoms to look out for and how to help recovery. I had to contact my own GP to get enough painkillers. Once discharged I had to walk with my husband all the way to the car at the pickup parking as there was no porter or wheelchair available. I had given 1h notice and then let her know again 10minutes before my husband arrived to collect me.

I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to Dr James Noake at Pure Sports Medicine for his ongoing efforts in diagnosing a long-standing misdiagnosed knee injury following several unsuccessful procedures. Dr Noake identified relevant pathology on imaging that, unfortunately, had been missed by several other private consultants elsewhere. He then carefully administered a diagnostic injection, taking considerable time to ensure pinpoint precision through a cyst and a very small joint space. Dr Noake is clearly a very busy and sought-after clinician, yet he ensured I received an extensive first face-to-face consultation, with ample time in clinic to explore the problem thoroughly using ultrasound. He also went above and beyond by reviewing both previous and updated MRI scans, speaking to me at short notice via Zoom call during the festive period in order to review images and discuss options. I found this attention to detail and direct liaison to be exceptional as more than once I have had to wait 6-weeks between appointments at other private clinics or hospitals. Dr Noake is clearly dedicated to his craft and approaches his work with diligence, precision, and honesty. From the first point of contact, he inspired confidence through his willingness to answer questions, think critically beyond the obvious, and work collaboratively to reach informed decisions. I would highly recommend Dr Noake to anyone seeking help with complex, long-standing, or less common knee or nerve-related injuries.

Dear Dr Sen, I wanted to write personally to thank you for the care, clarity, and reassurance you provided during my recent consultations and investigations. Given the complexity of my medical history over the past two years including Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, prolonged hospitalisation, and recent major spinal surgery , I approached the cardiovascular review with understandable anxiety. Your calm, methodical approach and the way you explained each investigation and result in clear, balanced terms made a significant difference. The reassurance provided by the CT coronary angiogram, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, and blood results was immensely valuable, but equally important was your clinical judgement in rationalising my medications and recognising that my blood pressure had moved into the low range. That adjustment has already made me feel more confident about my recovery trajectory. I also appreciated how carefully you considered the wider context of my health, recovery, and long-term wellbeing, rather than viewing the results in isolation. It was evident that the plan was tailored specifically to me, not simply to numbers on a report. Thank you for combining clinical excellence with empathy and clear communication. It was genuinely reassuring to be under your care, and I am very grateful for your guidance. With best wishes and sincere thanks, Fasil N.

I had an initial consultation for varicose vein treatment (following a flyer in the post) and following further investigations/diagnosis I went ahead and had an operation. The whole experience from beginning to end was first class. Everything was fully explained to me and all my questions were answered before deciding on the most appropriate treatment. The operation (under local anaesthetic) went well with a nurse talking to me all the time and explaining everything which was happening as as well as distracting me! My recovery went as planned - and as explained - and a follow up visit to see the consultant was very reassuring. All in all I was very pleased with everything and would not hesitate in recommending Shepton Mallet Hospital.

Miss Sascha Dua is a great professional—respectful, knowledgeable, and caring. I was very scared to be in a breast cancer unit for the very first time, but she was wonderful at breaking the ice and making me feel comfortable. She was attentive and taught me how to properly perform self-examinations, which made me realise I had always been doing them incorrectly. Her team is also amazing and very caring. They sent me letters in advance introducing the team and explaining in detail how the process works, which was incredibly helpful. My husband and I were very happy with the whole process. I truly wish all doctors’ appointments were this supportive.

I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Gnanachandran. From the very first consultation he took my concerns and condition seriously, listened carefully, and explained everything clearly without rushing or dismissing anything. I felt genuinely heard and respected throughout the entire process. The level of care, professionalism, and compassion shown before, during, and after surgery made a huge difference to my experience and recovery. I felt safe, supported, and confident every step of the way. I am extremely grateful for the excellent care I received and would highly recommend him to anyone seeking a surgeon who truly puts their patients first.

The staff at KIMS Hospital are truly amazing and incredibly friendly. Their professionalism and genuine compassion were unmatched by any experience I’ve had in NHS care. I felt supported, reassured, and well looked after from start to finish. Several people stood out during my stay: Amy in recovery, David, who prepared me for the epidural, Becky, my physio, and Mark, who handled my medication. My two nurses who cared for me around the clock were also outstanding — attentive, kind, and consistently reassuring. I honestly can’t fault any part of the care I received. Thank you to the entire team for making a daunting experience so much easier.

Ania was kind and welcoming as always. She always asks me how things are and I tell her at length! She picks up a key issue to focus on, this time it was the window of tolerance and strategies to help me be curious, open and flexible. She is kind and supportive and helps me to see what I do well and how I can live more in accordance with my values rather than being angered repeatedly by small things or anxious about them. We both thought we were at a stage where I did not need to come to the sessions any more and I think this shows what a great practitioner Ania is and how well she understands me. I am both sorry and happy to leave!

My surgery took place there and had to stay overnight due to vertigo and dizziness. The hospital was friendly, new and pristine. The nursing staff outstanding as well as of course the medical team. I had dinner and breakfast and it was also healthy and delicious. Yesterday I returned to have the dressing removed and it was equally good. If any criticism would be to the pharmacy with a 30minute wait to get my prescription and also despite being a Bupa hospital not having the availity to charge Bupa for medication- I am under Bupa Global and in other Bupa hospitals this is the case.

Chris was impressively professional and meticulous, a pleasure to visit and I always felt willing to go the extra mile to explain the process to me and make detailed recommendations. This has really brought about a transformation in my quality of life, and I'm delighted to be back doing the things I love. Almost two months after first visiting the clinic, I am fully recovered- absolutely game-changing, could not recommend enough.

After a week of intensifying, debilitating sciatica pain, I realised expert help was required and booked an appointment with Claudiu at this practice. I’m so glad I did. The initial assessment was professional, very reassuring, and the diagnosis was accurate. I was happy to book the extremely effective follow-up sessions, and I’m now completely pain-free. The rehabilitation exercise programme was tailored to my needs, and I found the phone app provided to guide me through those exercises at home very helpful. I have no hesitation in recommending this practice.

I'd initially come across Professor Eden via the Prostate Matters website where in a video he explained in detail the radical prostectamy procedure. Upon further research I found out he was a leader in the field for this surgery and employed the latest techniques such as reitzus sparing and Neurosafe. My consultation with Professor Eden confirmed this surgery was the best route for me and helped put my mind at ease. Professor Eden helped answer and questions and concerns I had and I subsequently booked surgery with him.

I cannot fault my hospital stay in any respect. It was a wholly positive experience, notwithstanding that I had major surgery! Every single member of staff I encountered made me feel I mattered. I would describe the care I received, from start to finish and in every respect, as exemplary.
