Dr Gerry Dimitropoulos is a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist specialising in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular conditions, with particular expertise in heart rhythm disorders. His clinical work covers all aspects of general cardiology, with a focus on the investigation and invasive treatment of arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, atrial tachycardias, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, and ectopic beats. His practice includes catheter ablation procedures and the implantation and management of cardiac devices such as pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators.
Dr Dimitropoulos graduated from the University of Patras Medical School in 2009 and subsequently undertook cardiology training in the West Midlands. He completed subspecialty training in electrophysiology and cardiac devices at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Birmingham, followed by a fellowship in electrophysiology at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.
He completed a PhD in cardiovascular science in 2018, with research focusing on antiplatelet therapy, and his work has been presented at international scientific meetings and published in peer-reviewed journals. He also holds a qualification in Medical Education from the University of Warwick and is involved in the training of junior doctors and medical students.
Dr Dimitropoulos was appointed Consultant in Cardiology and Electrophysiology at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in 2021, where he led the ventricular arrhythmia ablation service and ran a dedicated ventricular tachycardia clinic.
As of January 2026, he has been appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at the University Hopsital of Bristol Royal Infirmary, where he currently practices.
He also holds honorary consultant roles with University Hospitals in Plymouth and Brighton, where he performs complex electrophysiology procedures.
He holds certification in Cardiac Electrophysiology from the European Heart Rhythm Association and is a member of the British Cardiovascular Society, the British Heart Rhythm Society, and the European Society of Cardiology.
Dr Dimitropoulos currently practises at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, Bristol Spire Hospital and Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital, where he provides specialist cardiology and electrophysiology services.
