I received my care at the Spire Regency Hospital in Macclesfield following a unicompartmental knee replacement in November 2025, and the standard of care throughout was excellent. From recovery through to the ward, the post-operative care was consistently compassionate, professional, and attentive. Every member of staff I encountered — from nursing and medical staff to healthcare assistants, physiotherapists, and catering staff — was kind, supportive, and clearly committed to patient wellbeing. Although I didn’t manage to note everyone’s name, those I did were outstanding and a real credit to the hospital. The physiotherapy support was particularly impressive. My post-operative physiotherapist understood exactly how far my knee should be bending at each stage and struck the right balance between encouragement and reassurance. This helped me overcome the understandable mental barriers around pain and guarding, and I was given a clear and structured recovery exercise plan to follow at home.

I have chosen my surgeon very carefully and Miss Shan Is amazing. First of all someone who specialised in hand and nerve surgery could never do anything that would not be perfect and in the smallest detail wouldn’t be left aside. She has been amazing and clear and honest expanding the exact result I would have . I was first suggested by another surgeon to just have implants dr Shan explained the benefits of having a lift for the future and I trusted her completely with size and all the procedures that were going to give me the best results and she did. It is so refreshing to have honesty and not be bamboozeled with compliments or promises and come out dizzy out of a consultation room. She is a person that aims for perfection and my results already reassure me of the final result. I am forever grateful and will trust her again.

Dr Ryan treated me with a lot of respect, although my symptoms were not life threatening, he listened to me and took my complaints seriously. When I had the surgery under his supervision, the procedure and recovery process and next steps were explained to me very clearly. I knew exactly what the surgeons were doing to me and what the benefit and also risks of having the surgery was. On a personal level I really appreciated how comfortable he made me feel throughout the entire process. Also today when I had my post op check up (months after the surgery, later than ideal, but not his fault at all!) he remembered me and seemed genuinely invested in me as a person which isn't something I was expecting, given how many patients he must see! I found the number of emails related to the appointments to be unnecessary and extreme. I was asked to complete a pre appointment questionnaire online. I did so and then received 3 further emails and a text message asking me to do the same. I have also received 4 emails asking me to give this feedback. Please look at your system. Filling your clients inboxes with multiple emails is not helpful for anyone.

Overall I am satisfied with the service but I don't always feel like my consultant is as prepared for the consultation as he should be given how much it costs. I would expect him to have familiarised himself with my notes and previous conversations that we have had about treatment options. I find that I sometimes have to go over the same ground that we have discussed before.

Mr Patel gave me a full diagnosis during my first visit and also microsuction to clear one ear to enable me to hear again. I had previously been unable to hear much for some weeks. The treatment was pain free and did not take long without being rushed. I have no concerns about going to see Mr Patel again and will do so if I have any further problems with my ears.
