Mr Chin Hooi Gan

I had total laparoscopic/vaginal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy with Dr Gan in April. Diagnosed by him via laparoscopy in 2025 stage 4 severe DIE endometriosis with bowel involvement and large endometriomas after years of pain and fatigue and horribly heavy periods. I was seeing doctors and consultants for around 4/5 years before this about symptoms. I feel lucky to have then finally been referred on to Dr. Gan, who is truly an excellent doctor, skilled surgeon and just an good human being! I was nervous about surgery as laparoscopy was my first operation, but I recovered quickly with no complications. The nursing team at spire were excellent. Diagnosis was a shock, and to then learn I needed such a major operation was upsetting. I waited a further year before having the big surgery due to personal /family issues, but kept in contact with Dr Gan throughout who was happy to answer all my questions, i had many! I also did lots of research and sought 2 further surgeon opinions as wanted to ensure organ removal was the right thing for my situation. Dr. Gan had no issues whatsoever with me doing this, was fully supportive. I believe he genuinely just wants the best for his patients and doesn't have the ego some doctors do. I was apprehensive about having such a major surgery in a small, private hospital with no ICU but in the end I'd decided I wanted Dr Gan to do the surgery and as he only does this privately, I went ahead. It was the right decision. Outstanding care from Dr Gan from start to finish. I had a 5 hour surgery due to adhesions and bowel shaving. I woke up feeling better than I did after the 3o minute laparoscopy. The anaesthetist was also very good, no nausea afterwards at all. I even ate some dinner. Recovery has been challenging, but there were no complications other than maybe minor UTI. The hardest part actually was not really knowing that my symptoms during recovery were normal. The after care and leaflets from hospital could have been a lot better. I was given standard leaflets for laparoscopy hysterectomy which is a much simpler procedure than the one I had and therefore my recovery looked nothing like that. Dr Gan was amazing however and responded to all my queries and concerns and even booked me in for additional follow up to alleviate my worries. Now, 14 weeks post op, I am so much better. Abdominal pain is almost gone, energy levels vastly improved and my recent bloods are much better according to GP. I was very low in iron and showing high inflammation from the level of disease. I would not hesitate to have surgery again with Dr Gan if needed. He is a very skilled surgeon and a very decent human being who genuinely wants the best for his patients.

When we first found out our daughter needed spinal fusion it was a really frightening thought but on meeting her surgeon Mr. Silk he calmed and made sense of a terrible situation and instantly she trusted him. The whole experience was smooth and reassuring. He is the first person we met that made sense of what to do and he was completely right. The staff who support him are also amazing and the whole experience was just the best you could ever hope for. She feels so much happier afterwards and it was the best decision. Listening to Mr.Silk was what our daughter needed as there is much advice from outsiders that confuse everything. But he really is the knowledgeable and calming person in a noisy world. Social media didn’t help my advice would be to find someone you trust and we were so lucky to be in his capable care. Her scoliosis was severe unfortunately. She is a dancer, it is her life and the most important part was he listened to her as she was worried about being able to dance again. This was the hardest thing to bear but Mr.Silk took that on board and managed to go far enough and keep her lower back for movement. His most important decision was to help her to achieve what she wanted to in her life with the safety of knowing her back was corrected and giving her lungs more capacity. I cannot put into words how much this has changed her life. This is an experience we will never forget and the time spent in hospital at the Evelina has given us special memories. Mr.Silk and all the staff are exceptional. She couldn’t wait to see him for her 6 week post surgery to show him how well she was doing. She has even noticed her breathing is better which she never really thought about before. He has turned the worst year into the best year and we cannot thank you enough. I have so much positive words I could say. She will be able to go to dance college and live her dreams. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Although very nervous as I rely totally on my left eye for vision, I had reached out to Mark for a consultation to discuss my options. After an extremely thorough consultation and tests. I decided to press forward with the procedure & it has been truly life changing and the best decision I could’ve made for my future. I have been able to go from -9.5 vision to near perfect. The entire process has been faultless and the communication has been very consistent. I was immediately put at ease and encouraged to ask as many questions as I felt necessary, both pre & post procedure. I would absolutely recommend Mark to anyone considering the procedure, especially to those with a higher prescription who have always believed there are no other options bar glasses and contacts. The feeling of being able to wake up and see & not have to worry about glasses (with thick lenses) is something I will not take for granted. Thank you very much, Mark!

The practitioner (Nicola, hope I haven't spelled her name wrong) who examined my skin was excellent. It was my first time getting my skin checked and I hadn't realised it would involve taking some of my clothes off. I was a little anxious but she was very understanding and took the time to explain the process and the tool that she was using. She also explained various observations made during the examination which put me at ease (no technical jargon used, which was great). After the examination, she patiently went through the booklet and my results. She answered multiple questions I had in a very clear and calm manner. My visit was very pleasant.

I was a private in patient for a hip replacement from 29 July to 1 August. The experience from start to finish was outstanding. There were many issues with Bupa prior to admission that required a massive input from Pryanka Danbar .. I would like to express my gratitude to her for being so amazingly helpful and informative throughout the process. The ward staff and physios were excellent. The only thing that let down the experience was being moved twice to different wards/rooms during my stay. This was difficult as I was just starting to mobilise and learn techniques for my independence and I had to keep adjusting.
