Mr. Thomas Hunter is a highly skilled consultant specialising in trauma and orthopaedic surgery. His expertise particularly centres around hip and knee joint replacement surgery. He is clinical director for trauma and orthopaedic surgery at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital and is a clinical supervisor for surgical trainees as well as an honorary clinical lecturer affiliated with Cardiff and Bangor University.
Mr Hunter obtained his primary medical degree at the University of Manchester, and subsequently completed specialised training in surgery. His initial foundation training took place in the Oxford deanery, paving the way for a comprehensive career in surgery. His core surgical training involved both plastic surgery and trauma and orthopaedic surgery. Later he joined the esteemed Stoke/Oswestry orthopaedic higher surgical training programme, a significant milestone in his journey. His dedication to education led him to obtain a Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma in medical education, alongside a Master’s degree in Evidence-Based Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery.
Mr. Hunter's commitment to excellence continued as he devoted an extra year to the renowned Wrightington Hospital, internationally known as a specialised centre for hip and knee surgery. It was from this foundation that he transitioned into his role as a consultant.

I was called at home by the booking clerk with an appointment for 13thAugust. I was given appointment for pre op, a consultation with Mr Hunter. It was identified that my iron was slightly low and an appointment was made for a few days later. Communication was very good and I was sent details of the hospital in abergele where I had to arrive by 7.30am and report to Ward 6. All nursing staff and chats with anaesthetist and Mr Hunter were before I went to theatre. I was met by two gentlemen who really put me at my ease regarding having a spinal block and sedation. I was then in recovery and was checked there, was visited by Mr Hunter to check on me. I was then taken to xray and shown my new hip replacement was in place and surgery had gone well. Back on the Ward I was treated very well and given something to eat and drink. Later it was explained by nurse that I would be on blood thinners for 28days that I would have to administer myself. Night in hospital was very comfortable and I was helped out of bed and supported in walking to the toilet and back to my bed. All nursing staff were excellent and very attentive, physio was done on the morning and they explained all the exercises giving me an information sheet to refer to when i got home. I was supplied with a fit note from the nursing team along with my medication just before I left. Mr Hunter and his team in Abergele gave me the best care and turned something I was very anxious about into quite a pleasant straightforward experience. I am very pleased with my partial knee replacement. It has been life changing for me and I am now back to being pain free and doing my normal activities including longer walks and the gym. Mr Hunter was very professional and fully explained the procedure and recovery timescales. All my questions and concerns were answered.
