My GP referred me to an Endocrinologist for an opinion of my symptoms. We chose the Consultant doctor who had the soonest appointment available in our area. Dr Horne is a young Endocrinologist who was personable on meeting and communicated clearly the tests that I should undergo to determine a diagnosis. Most important, he picked up on a comment about my feeling breathless by recommending a test for cardiovascular disease, although this was not his specialty. The result of this test revealed that I needed an emergency heart operation to install a pacemaker. I was kept overnight and received the pacemaker surgery the next day. It was amazing that this was discovered just before it became a crisis. I am so grateful to Dr Horne and the Cardiac team at Salisbury District Hospital. When he had the test results for the original symptoms, Dr Horne also confirmed the endocrinology diagnosis. I recommend Dr Horne without reservation, as a thoroughly Professional and Caring Consultant, who through active listening heard and clear communication explained a path for my medical investigation. His thoroughness picked up on a symptom (breathlessness) that I had explained away as unfitness, or other things. Ready to credit the Cardiac Team for their not insignificant part in my emergency treatment, I would add collaboration with a good dollop of humility to Dr Horne’s attributes. Professional at all times, I felt that he was on my side all the way.

Staff are amazing and caring, the problem is not enough staff, only 2 at a time on dementia unit. When they are assisting someone in their room there are no staff to keep an eye on residents in rest of unit. These residents have little understanding of their behaviour or instructions, have poor mobilty and coordination. Myself, as a visitor has had to intervene on several occasions to prevent falls or fighting, and I witnessed other visitors doing the same. This is not my job. I can't fault what the staff do, they go above and beyond and do their best, the issue is understaffing. I'm not making these comments to cause trouble but because I have concerns about safeguarding and feel that all is needed is more appropriate staffing levels. There should also be a male carer on at all times for male residents, and always the same group of staff for familiarity.

Prof Tony Kochhar and I had an excellent two way clear and honest communication. His actionable balanced guidance was easy to understand; including steps for diagnosis, potential treatable actions that may be required; including on how best to manage my symptoms with a holistic approach and being proactive. Prof Tony Kochhar grasped my future needs as I am proactive rather than reactive person and he focused on solutions with me to make positive changes. He is also in tune with ethnicity and linked with possible causation on musclo- skeletal problems. For this I’m very grateful. I’m very impressed and I definitely recommend Prof Tony Kochhar for any one who suffers with shoulder issues or any musculoskeletal-skeletal problems.

Dr Eleanor is every bit as warm, friendly and approachable as Dr Alice. Super understanding and very clear in their explanations of proposed treatments. I am absolutely delighted with EPD, I do recommend the HRT clinic to all my friends- even though it might make it slightly more difficult to get an appt- but now I just rebook for the next time, so it's perfect. On arrival everything was explained, my operation was carried out with minimum waiting time, the nurses and anaesthetist were excellent, as was the surgeon, the next thing I recall is being in the recovery room and being wheeled back to my room, very good after care with constant visits from staff. I was able to leave hospital after one night, now six weeks later following expert advice from physio my knee is improving all the time. I would fully recommend the Norwich Spire Hospital.

The following Monday I was admitted for the minimally invasive procedure to replace my aortic valve. I had so few complications. Everything seemed to progress as a textbook case.
