Mr Chin Hooi Gan

Following years of treatment for endometriosis through the NHS, including oophorectomy in 2015 and a full hysterectomy in 2018 at the age of 28, It was confirmed that I still had endometriosis and I have since undergone 2 further laparoscopies. The last procedure in 2024 was unsuccessful and some of the endometriosis tissue was left. My symptoms steadily got worse to the point where I could not walk unaided and was taking morphine daily in order to function. My quality of life was non-existent and I had lost faith in the NHS due to continuous dismissals. Following my own research I found Mr Gan. After the initial appointment with him in June 2025, for the first time I felt I had been listened to and believed when I spoke about my pain and symptoms. Mr Gan was very sympathetic, compassionate and thorough. He communicated his concerns very well and ensured I completely understood my issues. Mr Gan then kept me informed of his plan, the whole process and potential time frames. It was also very clear that the most important thing for Mr Gan was for me to come out of the whole process with a better quality of life and alleviation of my symptoms, as there were question marks over exactly where and how much endometrial tissue there was. Several times he shared his concerns regarding surgery and the cost of surgery Vs the reward, this clearly showed his concern for doing the right thing and that his patients come first. However I insisted that my symptoms were linked to endometriosis due to my past experience and Mr Gan listened. He agreed to do the surgery. I underwent surgery in October 2025 led by Mr Gan. During the surgery Mr Gan excised endometriosis and scar tissue from my bladder, sigmoid colon and vaginal vault. He also located and removed an 8cm endometriosis nodule/scarring that was attached and constricting my ureter, hypogastric nerve and several ligaments. Mr Gan was clearly incredibly precise as the surgery was completed with no complications, despite the significant intricacy! When I awake following my anaesthetic, I was immediately symptom free. The pain that had been crippling me for years had gone. The only explanation for this is the skill, care and expertise of Mr Gan and his surgical team. As I write this I am 10 weeks post op, I am back at work full-time, I walk twice a day with my dog and have no need of pain relief whatsoever. I am back to my old self, I have my life back and my partner and I could not be more grateful for what Mr Gan did for me. Following years of dismissals and medical gaslighting from gynaecologists elsewhere, Mr Gan truly was my light at the end of a very long and dark tunnel. Mr Gan will always be my first choice should my endometriosis return, I cannot recommend him enough. Thank you Mr Gan for everything that you do!

I have been under the care of Professor Faiz for approximately 18 months, during which I underwent major and complex surgery performed by Professor Faiz himself. This followed almost two decades of severe inflammation in the bowels, which had resulted in a very aggressive disease with numerous complications. When I first met Professor Faiz, it quickly became clear that he had an exceptional understanding of the progressive nature of my condition, as well as its many intricacies and complications—far beyond any other consultant or surgeon I had previously spoken to. Professor Faiz was extremely thorough in conducting tests and assessments to gain a complete picture of my situation. He then developed a clear surgical plan, carefully considering the best approach while prioritising the elimination of all possible risks. Professor Faiz also collaborates with highly skilled and experienced colleagues, whom he involved at the appropriate stages of my care without hesitation. His secretary has likewise been outstanding and extremely helpful. On several occasions after surgery, I was able to contact her and receive a prompt response from Professor Faiz, which greatly helped to alleviate my concerns. In addition to being exceptionally talented in his field, Professor Faiz is also deeply caring. He understands the human aspect of living with complex conditions and the profound impact they can have on people’s lives. In summary, Professor Faiz is a highly experienced and skilled surgeon who prioritises minimising risk and achieving the best possible outcomes for his patients. He is supported by an excellent team. I feel extremely fortunate and grateful to have met Professor Faiz during what was a very challenging and worrying time, and I could not have asked for better care.

The general experience was excellent - all the staff readily on call any time of the day or night. Although I had some blood pressure problems, it was dealt with efficiently. I would like to identify Aiden as a particularly lovely person who made me feel very relaxed in a stressful situation. The physios were also very good. I would have liked a more detailed discharge plan for exercises to aid my recovery. The pain killers given on discharge seem to be only mildly effective and my pain level remains quite high. I have a lot of bruising on my thigh, which l wasn't told as a possibility. I wasn't given any information about ways to help with the stiffness. Overall, I would recommend the hospital to anyone

Dr. Alex Cappai listened to me and made me feel heard. She was quite friendly, and I felt at ease during the assessment. I was diagnosed with Adult ADHD mixed type in my fifties, which was a bittersweet finding. Dr. Cappai provided me with practical counsel that was extremely beneficial, as well as the time I needed to comprehend my diagnosis. The staff at Diverse Minds Clinic have been really professional and helpful throughout the process, and I would strongly suggest this service.

On Saturday, I attended Canterbury Hospital at 7:30 am for a minor operation on my finger. Two nurses looked after me and prepared me beforehand. Emma went out of her way to help. I had a very good discussion with the test and we decided that general anaesthetic would be the best route. Mr. Smith carried out the operation and I was lucky to see him afterwards when I came round and he said it had been completely successful. Everything seemed very calm, organised and professional. Friendly staff at Main Reception who gave clear directions to Imaging Department. Department staff were friendly, professional and efficient. Radiographer was great - clear with his questions and explanations. Changing room was a good size, but would benefit from redecoration and coat hooks/hangers would be useful. Overall, a good experience, but would have liked the report to have been sent to the referrer quicker.
