Mr. Momin Malik is a Consultant General and Hepatobiliary (HPB) Surgeon based at Inverness Outpatient Centre in Inverness, with extensive experience in general, liver, and pancreatic surgery. He completed his higher surgical training in General Surgery before undertaking sub-specialist training in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery in Aberdeen in 2010. Following the award of his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS), he gained further experience at major hepatobiliary units in Manchester and Newcastle.
Mr. Malik has a strong interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery and has undertaken fellowships in single-port keyhole techniques at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford and in Salzburg, Austria. He was the lead author for the SCARLESS trial, which investigated single-incision (scarless) appendicectomy. Appointed as a consultant in 2016, he currently practises at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness and sees private patients at Inverness Outpatient Centre.
His clinical work covers a range of general surgical procedures, including open and laparoscopic repair of ventral, inguinal, and femoral hernias. He has a specialist focus on benign and malignant conditions of the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder, with particular expertise in laparoscopic cholecystectomy and bile duct exploration. He also promotes the use of intra-operative ultrasound within his department.
Alongside his clinical practice, Mr. Malik serves as an honorary clinical lecturer, tutor, and examiner for the University of Aberdeen Medical School. He is faculty on several surgical training courses with the Royal Colleges of Surgeons, including ATLS and the Cadaveric Open Abdominal Surgery course, and acts as an examiner for the MRCS OSCE. He also represents his Health Board on the hernia surgery panel at the Scottish Centre for Sustainable Delivery. His academic interests include Human Factors and their influence on safety and outcomes in surgery.
