Overall, Spire Elland was great and I would happily return should I require any further procedures in the future. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and everything is very clean. I think the main thing letting the hospital down is patient communication. All appointments and comms are recorded and delivered via an app. If you don't want to or aren't able to download the app (like me), you do end up being left a little in the dark about things. For example, I had been given a surgery date fairly soon after my initial consultation, which was great, however I hadn't been informed that there would be multiple pre-operative assessment appointments to attend - all of which were on-site at Spire Elland, which is around an hour's drive for us. On one occasion, I had to make last-minute arrangements to move clients around as I'd been unaware of an upcoming appointment - I'd received no email, no text, no phone call, no letter. I just so happened to log in to my online portal and find the appointment date there. I moved clients around so I could attend, and just a couple of days before my appointment received a text message to say the date had changed, with no explanation provided. I called to try and find out why this might be, but was met with a dismissive reply of, "We just had to move it". All of the documents outlining the process for my surgery and the prep I should do beforehand were provided online, and the online portal isn't the simplest to navigate, so accessing them wasn't as easy as it could have been. When I was admitted for my day surgery, the staff were very welcoming and friendly, although I did find that I received a blunt reply whenever I asked a question about anything. This was my first ever surgery and my first time being put under general anaesthetic, so naturally I was quite nervous. Some of the members of staff were very helpful and supportive, but others seemed to have little patience, which wasn't ideal and only served to make me more anxious. When I came to after the surgery, I had been expecting to have a bit of a handover with someone so I could at least find out how it had gone and what they had/hadn't found. Unfortunately, Mr Gan was occupied in another surgery, and so I was discharged before having the chance to speak to him. I asked the nurses for some clarification - any brief notes or insights they might be able to give to put my mind at ease a bit until I could speak with Mr Gan - but this was met with quite curt replies. I was told no one could read Mr Gan's handwriting so no one could tell me any information, which at the time was quite frustrating as I'd been dealing with the pain for so long and had viewed the laparoscopy as the light at the end of the tunnel. It was disheartening to leave the hospital without any real clarification of the issue. Now having had my final follow-up with Mr Gan, I can say with confidence that all of my questions have been answered, and I feel validated and supported as a patient. However, I can't help but feel that had the communication from the hospital team been a little better throughout the process, it wouldn't have been so frustrating to wake up after the surgery and find that no one could tell me how it had gone.

The care and support I have received from her has genuinely been life changing. Dr Pittock has helped me understand my ADHD in a way that has completely changed how I approach my life. After many years of struggling to make sense of certain challenges, she has given me clarity, reassurance and practical guidance that has made a real difference to my day-to-day life. Starting treatment under her guidance has been a very positive experience, and I now feel like I am looking forward rather than constantly looking back. She is warm, kind and very easy to talk to, which immediately puts you at ease. At the same time, she is clearly extremely knowledgeable and thoughtful in her approach. I always feel listened to during appointments, never rushed, and fully supported in decisions about my treatment. I would highly recommend Dr Pittock to anyone seeking assessment or support for ADHD.

My first appointment was arranged within a week. After my appointment I was offered surgery in exactly one more week. Everything was great, lovely facilities, lovely staff. Everyone was very friendly and constantly being offered coffee etc. On every occasion I was taken either on time or early. I was put at ease and everything was fully explained and what the best lenses for me would be, based on my history and interests. On the day of surgery, everything went fine and there was no pain whatsoever, merely a strange feeling as the surgeon did his stuff. Afterwards I was given advice re eye drops and aftercare and again all great. Everything was fine when I got home, merely discomfort and that soon passed. I had plenty of people checking and following up that all was well. Finally, I had a follow up visit after a few weeks and again everything was great and very professional and I was advised to see my optician and GP. Throughout my time, the service I received was first class.

Extremely punctual- no wait at all. Welcoming, personable, thorough in line of enquiry and clear in providing explanation and plotting the way forward and clarifying expectations for me, the patient. In short, a faultless professional. As someone who has consistently enjoyed high quality service from NHS professionals in a wide variety of medical premises over many years, this experience still stood out as exceptional. (Also, excellent coffee and ham and cheese toasty in hospital canteen served by cheerful and welcoming catering staff.)

The consultant was very reassuring throughout. The teams, medical and physio, came across as calm, competent and professional. The nurses and reception staff at the hospital were friendly, calm and professional not just to me, the patient, but to my wife as well. Recovery after the procedure was less daunting than I feared it would be, the pain experienced was less than I feared it might be, and the rehab process has been every bit as easy as I was told it might be. Dr Enwere explained everything in a manner that we both understood. He do not rush and was very kind as well as being frank and this was very much appreciated.

I saw Dr Ritchie for a chronic cough and had an excellent experience. He was professional yet friendly and very easy to talk to. He arranged multiple diagnostic tests promptly and explained every step of the process, as well as the results, in a clear and reassuring way. He also asked a lot of questions about myself and my daily routine to get a full medical profile. He explained certain terminology and made some suggestions. I definitely would recommend him if you may have sleep disorders.
