About Dr Shahid Hamid

Dr Shahid Hamid is a highly experienced Consultant Physician specialising in Respiratory Medicine and General Medicine, with more than 25 years' consultant experience.

He has broad expertise across Respiratory Medicine, with a particular interest in chronic cough, alongside the assessment and management of breathlessness, asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, sleep apnoea and sleep-disordered breathing, pleural disease and interstitial lung disease, respiratory infections and lung cancer.

He also has extensive experience in General Medicine, including the assessment and management of patients with multiple co-existing medical conditions. His broad physician background enables him to take a comprehensive approach to clinical complexity, taking account of how different conditions and treatments may interact when considering investigation and management.

Dr Hamid has a warm and approachable manner. He puts patients at ease and takes their concerns seriously. He explains things clearly, helping them feel informed and confident about the next steps in their care.

He undertook specialist training in Respiratory and General Medicine at major UK centres including Guy's Hospital and St Thomas' Hospital in London. His training included specialist experience at the Lane-Fox Respiratory Unit at St Thomas', where he worked in non-invasive ventilation and sleep disorders. He also has substantial experience in Acute and Intensive Care Medicine, with consultant-level practice spanning Respiratory Medicine, General Medicine and critical care.

During his consultant career, Dr Hamid has held senior clinical and leadership roles, including Clinical Director for Respiratory Medicine and Lead Clinician for Tuberculosis. He has received three Clinical Excellence Awards and was also selected for inclusion in the Tatler Doctors Guide 2013 as one of Britain’s leading respiratory physicians. He has also been extensively involved in undergraduate, postgraduate and GP education.

He has contributed to clinical research and publications across Respiratory Medicine, Sleep Medicine, ventilation and General Medicine, with published work appearing in journals including Thorax, Respiratory Medicine, Pain and the British Medical Journal.
