Mr Aruna Munasinghe

Mr Munasinghe is a Consultant Bariatric, Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgeon with over 25 years of surgical experience, specialising in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery. He is Chair of the National Bariatric Surgery Registry (NBSR) and a Council Member of the British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS), reflecting his national involvement in advancing the safety, quality and outcomes of bariatric surgery.

He has an established NHS practice at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he is Clinical Lead for Safety and Clinical Governance. The welfare of his patients is central to his practice, and he is committed to providing personalised, honest and evidence-based care.

Mr Munasinghe qualified from Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital and completed extensive postgraduate surgical training across London, the South East and the West Midlands. He undertook a period of research at Imperial College London before completing a specialist fellowship in Bariatric and Complex Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery at St George's Hospital, London.

Alongside his clinical practice, he is a passionate surgical educator and national trainer, teaching and training surgeons in bariatric surgery, minimally invasive hernia repair, trauma and endoscopy.

He offers a comprehensive range of general, upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgical procedures, using minimally invasive techniques wherever appropriate to reduce postoperative discomfort and support a faster recovery. He welcomes patients with both straightforward and complex surgical conditions, including those requiring revisional (redo) surgery following previous procedures.
