About Mr Barnaby Barrass
Mr Barnaby Barrass is a highly experienced and qualified Consultant Urological Surgeon with over 26 years of experience in the field. After completing training in London, Bristol and the Cambridge training rotation, he has gone on to perform over 14,000 urological procedures including minimally invasive treatments and surgeries to relieve benign prostatic obstruction.
He has a particular expertise in urological diagnostics and introduced one of the first urology "one stop" clinics in the country, which significantly reduced waiting times for patients. Mr Barrass has also introduced several new treatments and specialities into his department, such as the prostatic urothelial lift (Urolift) and hyperthermic mitomycin for bladder cancer.
As the lead clinician for urological cancer in his department, Mr Barrass has led the urological cancer response to Covid and contributed to several regional cancer guidelines. He is a GMC approved trainer and teaches on several national urology courses.
Mr Barrass has published extensively in the field of urology and has given numerous presentations around the world on urological topics. He is the recipient of 3 clinical excellence awards and numerous academic prizes and grants for his work, including a British Urological Foundation Fellowship.
With his extensive experience and expertise, Mr Barrass offers a range of treatments and surgeries at Spire Harpenden Hospital, including bladder investigations, prostate surgery, ureteroscopy and laser stone surgery, and vasectomy.

Would highly recommend Dr. Barrass. Easy to talk to and explained everything very clearly. Went to see him with some genuine prostate concerns following an MRI Scan and left with a weight off my shoulders. Also a special mention to his PA Jennifer who went above and beyond to get me an earlier appointment and getting all the relevant information delivered to Dr. Barrass in time so that our appointment could be as productive as possible. 5 stars to both.
I visited Mr Barrass for kidney stones, bladder stones and thickening of the walls of my bladder. Mr Barrass explained what the next procedure was going to be and arranged blood and urine test plus having a contrast scan. I felt completely at ease with Mr Barrass which gave me complete trust in him for carrying out the proposed procedure which he felt necessary in my case.
What was most reassuring was that he listened to the issues I was experiencing. It can be difficult as a woman of a certain age to be listened to and to be heard. The various tests and procedures and results were explained. He suggested a supplement that I can take and it has made the world of difference.
Very positive experience, Mr Barrass took genuine interest to offer support and guidance and to fully understand the issues and symptoms being addressed.
Mr Barrass is absolutely first class in his field on every level from his in depth knowledge / expertise to his pastoral care. I can’t recommend him highly enough. His secretary is outstanding too.
His expertise and care was first class. He has changed my life as can go to the toilet freely. I feel so much better. I thoroughly recommend him. Brilliant!
Very professional and attentive . Recovery took longer than expected
I am very happy with the treatment that I have received from Dr Barrass. He was thorough, I was treated very quickly and the care that I have received from him and all of the team around him was excellent.
I went in for a minor diagnostic procedure recently that hit a complication, and Mr Barrass very kindly took time out of his busy schedule to rectify the issue, and gave very clear explainers throughout. I thoroughly recommend him.
