Mr Darmarajah Veeramootoo

Mr Veeramootoo was the surgeon for my procedure to fix an inguinal hernia. The procedure was carried out at Spire Clare Park Hospital in mid-December 2025. I met with Mr Veeramootoo for a consultation in October and then again on the morning of my procedure. During these meetings he clearly explained what would happen during the procedure and he answered all my questions. Mr Veeramootoo visited me once more, when I had recovered from the general anaesthetic and confirmed that the procedure had gone smoothly. I was able to return home the same day. In the first week following the procedure, I was fortunate in experiencing very little real pain and the general discomfort in the area of the procedure had largely gone by the end of the second week. I regained my mobility very quickly and was able to walk multiple miles without discomfort by the end of the first week. Now, four weeks after the procedure, I feel largely back to normal, my body providing only occasional reminders that I shouldn't be doing anything too strenuous. Overall, I have a very positive view of the care I received. I wish to extend my thanks to Mr. Veeramootoo and to all of the staff who were involved in my treatment and care.

I was taken into a room that was obviously not cleaned after the last patient as their clothes were still there. My postop instructions were to stay warm. I was absolutely freezing after surgery because the nurses turned the heat down to suit another patient. I was on the end bed and no one came to check on me for ages so I couldn’t get another blanket. I told the nurses at least three times that I don’t eat dairy. I then had cow’s milk and dairy butter placed in front of me which is offensive. The nurses paid a lot of attention to the person next to me, but rarely checked on me. I felt overlooked. By this point, I just wanted to go home but again they prioritised other patients so I was late to leave.

Mr.Miles performed partial knee replacements on both of my knees. Both procedures were faultless, and the persistent and severe pain that I had in each knee (apart from the expected post-operative swelling) disappeared straight away. I had been in so much pain prior to each surgery, and painkillers only took a slight edge off of the pain. I was unable to walk any distance, sleep properly and it was affecting my work. When undertaking base line assessment prior to the procedure, this was conducted in the reception area. During this taking place, 3 other people arrived and seated themselves in the reception area. We were unclear if they were members of the public, staff or other appointments. They were not introduced to us as observers for my treatment. The introduction didn't occur until Prof Zveorov arrived, then introductions were made and my family was made aware they were from other institutions to learn and observe. The support and treatment were excellent.

I was referred to Professor Paleri immediately I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. He is currently conducting investigations so he can decide the plan to treat my cancer. In spite of my real terror I feel completely safe in his care and so so grateful for having being speedily transferred to him. Can I also mention that his assistant is Ma Muni King who is so kind and compassionate. This is a scary journey. To be cared for by Professor Paleri is a privilege.
