Mr Jamie Vatish is a highly regarded consultant oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgeon and the lead for breast surgery in Birmingham. He specialises in the comprehensive surgical management of breast cancer and breast disease. He offers private care at The Harborne Hospital (HCA Healthcare UK) and The Priory Hospital, where he leads one-stop breast clinics providing rapid diagnosis, personalised treatment planning, and advanced reconstructive options. The breast service which he oversees at University Hospitals Birmingham is one of the largest in the UK and delivers tertiary level care for patients from across the Midlands with Breast Angiosarcoma and Inoperable Breast Cancer requiring Electrochemotherapy. His expertise was recently featured on the TV series, Surgeons: A matter of life or Death.
Mr Vatish is recognised for his expertise in oncoplastic breast surgery, combining cancer removal with techniques that preserve breast shape and appearance. He is one of the few surgeons in the West Midlands trained in partial breast reconstruction using chest wall perforator flaps, a technique that may prevent the need for mastectomy in selected patients. His specialist skills also include the management of benign breast disease, risk-reducing breast surgery, and rare implant-related conditions, including Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL).
He graduated with honours in 2010 from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School, London, also completing a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. After higher surgical training across the Midlands, he was awarded the prestigious National Fellowship in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery at the Leeds Breast Unit, where he gained advanced expertise in complex breast reconstruction and the treatment of immune-related cancers associated with implants.
Jamie has an extensive role in training the next generation of surgeons. He holds a degree in education, is a Lecturer at the University of Birmingham and is the lead trainer for breast surgeons in the West Midlands. Mr Jamie Vatish is professional, compassionate, and reassuring with patients. He explains procedures clearly, answering all questions to put minds at ease during treatment. Patients achieve outstanding results from various surgeries, including lumpectomies, mastectomies, and breast reconstructions, with minimal scarring and a natural look. Mr Vatish's expertise in breast cancer diagnosis, breast lumps, breast surgery, and breast consultations is highly valued by patients.
Dr Vitash listened to my concerns and went through everything with me, answering any questions I had.
Jamie was really warm and friendly and explained everthing to me really well.
This visit was a follow up, post Mr Vatish performing my mastectomy last December. He allayed minor concerns I had around my post surgical appearance.. Most reassuringly, he was also able to reframe other questions I had, around moving forward post chemotherapy. I really appreciated the continuity of being able to talk to the doctor who has provided care, quite literally, since the day my cancer was diagnosed.
From the minute I walked in Mr Vatish helped me to feel at ease. He explained everything to me and unlike previous experiences, as soon as he could he put my mind at rest. I couldn’t have asked for a better person, do not hesitate to use Mr Vatish.
From the moment I found a lump in my breast , the service I have received has been outstanding. Mr vatish and his team of breast nurses are outstanding. The consultations about the procedure and the process have been very informative.Myself and my husband felt at ease asking any questions. The operation itself went well and Mr vatish did what he said he would do and reconstructed my breasts to look natural and minimal scarring. Even though having breast cancer is a scary thing, I have felt supported every step of the way by Mr Vatish and his team. I will be for ever grateful and will actually miss my appointments at the hospital and seeing the friendly team.
The whole experience was outstanding. The pathway offered was excellent and done in such a quick timeframe. The consultant was extremely professional and all other staff which was involved in my care during the visit was extremely friendly and professional.
Mr Vatish was compassionate and professional and made me feel at ease. Very reassuring with his care and appears very personable.
