About Mr Jamie Vatish

Mr Jamie Vatish is a highly regarded consultant oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgeon and the lead for breast surgery in Birmingham. He specialises in the comprehensive surgical management of breast cancer and breast disease. He offers private care at The Harborne Hospital (HCA Healthcare UK) and The Priory Hospital, where he leads one-stop breast clinics providing rapid diagnosis, personalised treatment planning, and advanced reconstructive options. The breast service which he oversees at University Hospitals Birmingham is one of the largest in the UK and delivers tertiary level care for patients from across the Midlands with Breast Angiosarcoma and Inoperable Breast Cancer requiring Electrochemotherapy. His expertise was recently featured on the TV series, Surgeons: A matter of life or Death.

Mr Vatish is recognised for his expertise in oncoplastic breast surgery, combining cancer removal with techniques that preserve breast shape and appearance. He is one of the few surgeons in the West Midlands trained in partial breast reconstruction using chest wall perforator flaps, a technique that may prevent the need for mastectomy in selected patients. His specialist skills also include the management of benign breast disease, risk-reducing breast surgery, and rare implant-related conditions, including Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL).

He graduated with honours in 2010 from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School, London, also completing a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. After higher surgical training across the Midlands, he was awarded the prestigious National Fellowship in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery at the Leeds Breast Unit, where he gained advanced expertise in complex breast reconstruction and the treatment of immune-related cancers associated with implants.

Jamie has an extensive role in training the next generation of surgeons. He holds a degree in education, is a Lecturer at the University of Birmingham and is the lead trainer for breast surgeons in the West Midlands. He teaches at the Royal College of Surgeons, London and is an examiner for the National Oncoplastic Masters course. He is widely published in leading journals such as the Lancet, the British Journal of Surgery and the British Medical Journal.

I cannot thank Jamie enough for the exceptional care I received throughout my breast cancer journey. From the very beginning, he was not only highly professional but also incredibly kind and reassuring. His personal approach and genuine compassion made a difficult time so much more manageable. His bedside manner is truly exemplary—he took the time to listen, explain everything clearly, and ensure I felt comfortable and confident in my treatment. I initially booked an appointment with Mr Vatish to discuss removing my breast implants because of a lump I discovered 18 months ago. I was told several times by professionals that the lump looked benign but something pulled me not to listen. After doing some research and reading several reviews about Mr Vatish I decided to book a consultation. From the moment I walked in, he was professional, attentive, and genuinely caring. He listened to my concerns and requested a biopsy on the lump. The results came back as cancer. The news was devastating but he explained everything in a clear and compassionate way. What stood out was his ability to make me feel comfortable and cared for. Mr Vatishs knowledge and expertise helped me understand my diagnosis and I’m delighted to say he removed the cancer. My journey is not yet over but the whole process from start to finish with Mr Vatish has been excellent, smooth and well organised which is what I needed during an incredibly stressful time. I will be forever grateful to him and I can not praise him enough. Thank you so much.

Dr Vatesh you have been fantastic and my reconstruction went awazingly well, I cannot thank you and the rest of the team enough for the lovely way in which I was treated throughout the entire experience .
