What is a breast surgeon?

Breast surgeons are surgical specialists who operate and investigate breast pathology. Breast cancer is a major proportion of their work and these may require surgical removal and subsequent breast reconstruction. Breast surgeons and plastic surgeons may both be involved with breast augmentation (Breast enlargement or reduction surgery) for cosmetic appearances.

When to see a breast surgeon?

Any condition or abnormality of the breast should be seen as soon as possible by a breast surgeon as this may require prompt investigation. Common procedures performed by breast surgeons include breast cancer removal and reconstruction (post-removal) and breast augmentation.
