I cannot thank Mr Mo Akmal and his team at The London Spine Unit enough for the care, expertise and support they have provided throughout my spinal journey. Over the past year, I underwent a steroid injection and PLDD procedure for an L4/5 herniated disc. Unfortunately, I later suffered an acute flare-up which resulted in severe symptoms and ultimately required a microdiscectomy. Throughout every stage of treatment, Mr Akmal and his team were exceptional. What impressed me most was that they treated me as an individual, not simply as an MRI scan. Whilst imaging is clearly important, Mr Akmal always took the time to listen to my symptoms, understand how they were affecting my day-to-day life, and base decisions on the whole clinical picture rather than relying solely on what the scans showed. As a patient, this made me feel heard, understood and genuinely involved in decisions about my care. Mr Akmal was always honest and transparent about my options, explaining the benefits and risks of each treatment while ensuring I never felt pressured. His calm, reassuring approach gave me confidence during what was a difficult and often frustrating time. The professionalism, compassion and expertise shown by the entire team have been outstanding. From consultations through to treatment and recovery, I felt supported every step of the way. Thanks to their care, I am now in a much better place and incredibly grateful for the outcome. Litfield House is easy to get to. The receptionist was very welcoming. The waiting area is comfortable and light with tea/coffee a water if required. Unfortunately the patient before me was very needy and her appointment overran resulting in mine being late. Once I was seen everyone that I spoke to prior to my surgery and beyond were helpful and friendly. The surgery was very straightforward and quick. I was made comfortable and although initially nervous I felt reassured that all would be well. Afterwards I was looked after with a cup of tea and biscuits and taken through the discharge procedure. I was given drops to administer at home with information about how to administer them.

Mr Babar Kayani

Mr Kayani corrected my right knee valgus by carrying out joint replacement surgery on 1st July. I am delighted with the result of my surgery under his very capable hands. My new look 'straight' right leg, now matches my left apart from some post op swelling. My rehab is going very well. Today was my 6 week check up in clinic. Mr Kayani was, as I have always experienced him to be, caring, attentive, warm, and friendly. He was thorough in his examination of my knee and he took time to answer the questions I had. I felt very well looked after and cannot fault any of the care I have received.

I had a wisdom tooth extraction on Friday 7th August and I feel that the clinician was overly forceful during the procedure. He caused additional and unnecessary damage through lack of care. He chipped the adjacent molar, which will need repairing. He also broke my lip by being clumsy with the pliers. He sprained my jaw and tore the corner of my mouth from forcing it open too wide. This has caused a lot of additional and unnecessary pain on top of the pain after the extraction. I will not be returning to the practice once my chipped tooth has been repaired.

Have had cataracts removed and new lenses in both eyes within the past few weeks. Dr Mandal fully explained the procedure and options beforehand, her team were all very friendly and professional. Although somewhat concerned at first I need not have been. The results are far better than expected. There was no pain only minor headache on the evening of the operation. I am glad that I chose to have the upgraded lenses and would definitely recommend (have done so already) to family and friends. Thank you.

Overall, it was a professional and reassuring experience and I would be very happy to use Spire Dunedin again.

My appointment was on time and everything was most efficient EXCEPT FOR my appointment reminder letter which was dated 7 days before my appointment but only arrived 7 days AFTER! I turned up on time regardless, but I wonder how many others have experienced this and maybe didn't remember to attend their appointment on the due date! What postage class is used? The frank mark on the envelope gives no clue, but I would guess it was not first class mail! Someone needs to look into this.

Mr Kasun Wanigasooriya is an excellent surgeon who shows warmth, sympathy and patience to his patients. On my most recent visit which took place at the George Eliot Hospital all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Mr Wanigasooriya showed his usual friendliness and gave a detailed revue of the surgical treatment I have received and what I should expect in the forthcoming healing process. I would like to wish him the continuing successful career that he rightfully deserves.
