    About

Miss Jess McMicking is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’. Jess underwent her specialist training in Sydney, Australia, giving her a global perspective on private maternity care.

Jess brings a wealth of experience to her private practice and the NHS in pre-existing and gestational diabetes, nutritional conditions and high-risk obstetrics. Jess is also a university-qualified nutritionist, and therefore able to provide tailored holistic care.

Jess recognises that each family’s journey is different. She prioritises listening to parents and shaping their pregnancy care and birth plans to their needs while also ensuring safe outcomes are achieved. She believes that seeing the same obstetrician throughout your entire pregnancy (private maternity’s continuity of care model), allows you to build a trusted relationship and plays a critical role in achieving outstanding care.

She is passionate, enthusiastic, empathetic and prides herself on being personally available and approachable to discuss any concerns you may have along your pregnancy journey.

Jess leads on numerous service projects, and continues to internationally publish articles. With an aspiration to improve the quality and outcomes of women’s health care in the UK and abroad, Jess is also a passionate educator and supervisor to specialty trainees, as well as King’s College medical students. She is also the founder of a virtual medical education platform for aspiring trainee doctors.

What can I say?! I can't imagine not having Jess by my side throughout the birth of my daughter. I was 100% in the best hands possible and cannot thank her enough for her help, guidance and patience throughout it all. I can't recommend her and her services enough. She put me totally at ease and made me feel like the only person in her care.

Jess was hands on and always available throughout my antenatal journey and during my birth. She’s very approachable, communicates well and felt safe under her care. She respected my birth plan and gave options during this for a successful outcome for my health and baby’s health. My recovery was seamless. Highly recommend.

I could not recommend Jess more highly for maternity care. Jess has a great balance of being thorough but relaxed in her approach. She was wonderfully responsive and we felt she took the time to get to know us as a couple and offer very personalised support and guidance whenever we had any queries or issues. We cannot thank her enough for the part she played in us having a healthy son and she will be the first call we would make if we go on to have another.

Jess shepherded us through a pregnancy that was not straightforward with skill and professionalism. We felt well taken care of throughout complications including Covid, placenta praevia, and gestational diabetes, and were assured that she was taking the right action at the right time to minimise the effects on both mother and baby, without feeling overwhelmed by too much information. She invited questions every step of the way, and responded quickly to emails and messages. She went out of her way to connect me with the right specialists at the right time when further expertise was needed. And finally she performed my caesarean with great skill and speed, and our baby is happy and healthy. Every doctor, nurse and midwife who has inspected the scar since, has commented on how neat it is.

I could not wish for a better experience with my pregnancy, labour and postpartum as Jess was absolutely spot on with managing it. It was worth it to go down the private route and completely different to the first pregnancy experience that I had at St Thomas hospital, NHS. I can not recommend Jess highly enough!

Having miscarried previously, we decided to go privately with Jess for pregnancy care and the delivery of our first child which turned out to be one of the best decisions we've made. Jess never failed to put our minds at ease throughout the journey as she is extremely personable, caring and attentive. Thanks to Jess, I was able to keep my gestational diabetes well controlled and our baby came out at a perfect size (50th percentile!) allowing me to recover extremely quickly post birth. I'd highly recommend Jess to anyone who's looking to deliver at St Thomas and we'd definitely be coming back to Jess for our next baby.
