Mr. Alessandro Paluzzi is a highly experienced Consultant Neurosurgeon at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, where he practices at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Specialising in skull base surgery, pituitary disease, and the surgical treatment of facial pain, he has been a consultant since 2012 and is on the GMC Specialist Register.
Alex completed his medical degree at Padua University in Italy before moving to Newcastle upon Tyne for his neurosurgical training. He further enhanced his expertise with advanced fellowships in skull base surgery at Pittsburgh, USA. Additionally, he holds a Master’s degree in Surgical Technology from Imperial College London, where his work focused on innovations such as virtual reality and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
A leader in endoscopic and minimally invasive neurosurgery, Alex is internationally recognised for his work, particularly in the treatment of complex pituitary adenomas, meningiomas, and chordomas. His surgical series on endoscopic pituitary surgery is one of the most cited in the field, and his research has been published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.
Alex has been invited to lecture at major international meetings and has served as faculty on numerous skull base cadaveric courses. He is also involved in medical education and research focused on neuroplasticity and brain performance enhancement.
In addition to his NHS role, Alex offers private consultations and surgical care at HCA Harborne Hospital in Birmingham, where he maintains the same high standards of multidisciplinary care and surgical precision, with a strong emphasis on clear and compassionate communication with patients.

Very friendly, professional, easy to talk to, fully understood my concerns. Gave me the opportunity to ask questions. Gave me reassurance and information about my future care.
I researched online for an experienced surgeon to perform MVD surgery to cure very painful Trigeminal Neuralga. I had a consultation with Mr Paluzzi and felt confident he was the man for the job. I am very pleased with the operation and he is 100% an expert at performing this operation. I am 2 months into recovery and feeling much better and confident the TGN pain has gone for good. Big thank you to Mr Paluzzi and his team. Best regards Jason A
When I had my first appointment with Mr Paluzzi - he was the first person who took my Trigeminal Neuralgia seriously - he understood I . he knew how the excruciating pain and the side effects of the meds were negatively impact ing my quality of life I had struggled with excruciating facial pain and shooting electric shock sensations in my cheek, jaw and around my ear for 5 years . I had pain on eating - brushing my hair - touching my face - cleaning my teeth . It could last for as long as 20 minutes and could fire again within 10 minutes . I had a nerve block at my local hospital which gave me some relief for about 2 weeks but thankfully the anaesthetist at City Hospital had contacted the Neuro team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Mr Paluzzi picked up my case I got an appoint ment to see him in his clinic. Mr Paluzzi was able to assure me that something could be done to alleviate my problem .He advised me to have MVD surgery. I had the surgery a couple of weeks later as he predicted it gave me immediate relief. I have my life back - I can do all the things I did before . I will always be grateful to Mr Paluzzi for his kind and caring manner and his surgical skills and mostly for the hope he had given me for a pain free future Note - IIt was filmed for Channel 5 Surgeons A matter of life or death -series 2 Episode 6
Mr Paluzzi completely understood my symptoms & clearly explained my care options. Once we had decided upon the MVD operation, he was true to his word & fitted me into his schedule sooner than I had expected. The operation itself was a complete success ( aided by Mr Thant) & since then I have had NO recurrence of my TGN symptoms. Unfortunately, several days after the operation, I developed Bacterial Meningitis & had to return to the QE (neurology dept) for two weeks of antibiotics. The source of the infection was not identified. I’d like to thank Mr Paluzzi for fixing the Trigeminal Neuralgia, allowing me to return to my active lifecycle.
He was absolutely exceptional and made me feel so comfortable with everything going on, explained everything perfectly and just in general a nice guy
Mr Paluzzi’s bedside manner is second to none. His care & understanding of my journey has been so reassuring. Modern medical practices are jaded by demands, yet he is constant & consistent in his practice & profession. Each patient is important to him & his team. Despite my challenges he is supportive & caring. His tenacity to ensure confidence in oneself after major surgery & trauma is first class. Thank you so much Mr P & Dr Leyland & whole team. God bless you all.
Mr Paluzzi has for the second time carried out the invasive surgery on an aggressive pituitary brain tumour. The first in 2013 and the second surgery May 2025. I can’t thank Mr Paluzzi enough. He really is an amazing surgeon and has the hands and work of a saint. From beginning to end the procedure has been well planned and a very successful operation. My life moving forward will always be the from the fantastic work he has carried out. Without him and his expertise I wouldn’t be where I am and on my way to living a more normal life, if not cured. And in future maybe not needing any more medication. Mr Paluzzi, you really are the BEST and I thank you with all my heart.
Excellent surgeon and colleague
