Dr Avanish Tantry is a Consultant Paediatrician at Leeds Children's Hospital, which is one of the largest and busiest children's hospitals in the UK, seeing in excess of 50,000 children per year. He is also the current Clinical lead for the general paediatric department. Dr Tantry obtained his primary medical qualification in India and went on to complete post graduate studies in paediatrics at one of the busiest children's hospitals in India. After finishing his studies in India, Dr Tantry continued his training in the UK and has worked in some of the busiest children's hospitals in the country, including Birmingham and Leeds. His qualifications are MBBS, MD paediatrics, FRCPCH and MSc in child health. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatricians.
He has been working as a Consultant in Leeds since 2013 and has developed extensive skills and experience in managing a wide variety of childhood illnesses including recurrent wheeze, asthma, heart murmurs, abdominal pains, constipation/diarrhoea, headaches, neurological problems, reflux, cow's milk intolerance/allergy, heart murmurs, chest problems, growth and nutrition issues, newborn problems, etc. He has a special interest in secondary paediatric nephrology which is a paediatric sub-speciality dealing with common kidney problems in children e.g. recurrent urine infections, nephrotic syndrome, urinary frequency/urgency, bedwetting, etc.
Dr Tantry also runs the long covid/chronic fatigue syndrome clinic in Leeds and was instrumental in setting this up. He has seen many children in this clinic and has helped managed these children and young people along with other therapists. He has gained valuable experience in this field and is well versed with the management of this condition. Dr Tantry has also recently been featured in a financial times article and podcast for his work in developing an innovative system to detect lead poisoning in children in Leeds. His work has led to Leeds being the only city in the UK that actively screens for lead poisoning in at risk children, and identification of cases that would have otherwise been missed.
