My main suggestion for improvement would be to ensure appropriate continuity of care when a consultant is away. Where investigation or biopsy results become available during a consultant’s absence, there should be a clear handover process so that clinically significant results can be reviewed by another appropriate clinician and acted upon where necessary. Patients who remain symptomatic should not have to wait for their consultant to return before results are reviewed and treatment can be reconsidered. In my case, this would potentially have prevented several additional weeks of significant symptoms while I remained on treatment that was not providing relief.
