About Mr Shashank Gurjar
I was appointed as a Consultant Laparoscopic Colorectal & General Surgeon at Luton & Dunstable University Hospital in January 2012. I have completed training as a robotic surgeon utilising the daVinci platform for colorectal resectional surgery and hernia repair.
I have a specialist interest in laparoscopic (keyhole) gastrointestinal surgery for bowel cancer (colon and rectum), inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease & ulcerative colitis), surgical treatment of diverticular disease & rectal prolapse. I offer expertise in laparoscopic/robotic groin hernia surgery (inguinal, femoral) and incisional hernia repair.
I have experience in treating all common coloproctology conditions including haemorrhoids (THD and Rafaelo), anal fistula surgery, pilonidal sinus, and anal fissures. I am an accredited endoscopist with expertise in colonoscopy and polypectomy.
I graduated from St Marys Hospital, London in 1997, then completed my training in the South-East Thames region, before a year-long fellowship in pelvic floor surgery at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.
I have a strong academic interest in clinical surgery and have published extensively across the field of colorectal & general surgery in various papers in peer-reviewed journals. I am an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons (England) and actively trains young surgeons in laparoscopic keyhole surgery.
I believe all patients should have high quality, evidence-based approach to their care. In addition to my NHS practice, I practise at a number of hospitals including in London and Hertfordshire.

I can highly recommend Mr Gurjar. I had a very bad problem with grade 4 piles and Mr Gurjar performed a hemorrhoidectomy. The operation was a great success and I am now completely pain free. Mr Gurjar explained everything clearly before the operation and saw me again after 8 weeks. He has an excellent 'bedside manner'. Friendly, professional and very experienced he was easy to talk to, and I had full confidence in him throughout the process. I am so glad I had this operation; I was anxious about it before I met Mr Gurjar, but he put me at ease and the post op pain was minimal. Thank you so much Mr Gurjar, and thanks also to Denise, his secretary, for prompt and friendly communication.

Fantastic experience with Mr Gurjar. The first procedure which was Botox and fissurectomy wasn’t successful so I went on to have a lateral sphincterectomy. At all stages I felt supported and Mr Gurjar is extremely positive and makes what is a debilitating issue seem manageable. The lateral sphincterectomy was the right decision for me and after a week or so post-procedure I finally felt human again.
Saw Dr Gurjar for a problem and he provided effective treatment and called me twice afterwards to check up on me and see if I was recovering well.
