The Portland Hospital truly felt like a five-star hotel combined with exceptional medical care. From the moment we arrived, everything was calm, organised, and incredibly well run, making what can be an overwhelming experience feel reassuring and even enjoyable. The facilities are outstanding, the rooms are beautiful, and the level of comfort is unmatched — but what really makes The Portland special is the people. The care we received from the midwifery team was absolutely exceptional. In particular, midwives/nurses Lucy and Anna were truly wonderful. They were kind, attentive, reassuring, and incredibly supportive, always taking the time to check in, explain everything, and make us feel completely cared for. Their warmth and professionalism made such a difference to our experience and helped us feel confident and supported every step of the way. The aftercare was equally impressive, with genuine attention to both mother and baby. Every member of staff went above and beyond, and nothing ever felt rushed. We are so grateful for the outstanding care we received and would highly recommend The Portland Hospital to anyone looking for exceptional maternity care in a calm, luxurious, and supportive environment.

I had my varicose vein scan with Louis and honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the start, he made me feel relaxed, comfortable, and confident that I was being properly looked after. Louis explained everything in a really easy-to-understand way and talked me through the scan as it was happening, which helped put me completely at ease. The ultrasound was very thorough, and it was clear he really knows what he’s doing, nothing felt rushed, and he took his time to check everything properly. What I appreciated most was how calm and reassuring Louis was throughout the appointment. He made sure I understood what was going on, what the scan showed, and what the next steps might be, without using complicated medical language or making it feel overwhelming. The whole appointment felt professional but friendly, and I left feeling informed, reassured, and confident in the advice I was given. If you’re feeling nervous about having a varicose vein scan or don’t know where to start, I would 100% recommend seeing Louis. You’re in very safe hands.

Dr Barke looked after my son following a shoulder injury, and his care was outstanding from start to finish. He acted swiftly to organise appropriate imaging, arranged expert surgical input, and ensured seamless physiotherapy follow-up. What was most valuable was that Dr Barke took overall responsibility for coordinating the entire process and leading my son’s return to sport. As a very keen sportsman, my son was understandably devastated at the prospect of missing out, but Dr Barke was incredibly reassuring, supportive, and clear throughout putting clear plans in place. He not only managed the injury expertly but also recognised the emotional impact of being sidelined, which made a huge difference. Thanks to his guidance and structured approach, my son felt supported, motivated, and confident as he worked back to sport. I would highly recommend Dr Barke to any young sportsman and their family.

I was going to e mail anyway to pass on my thanks so it’s nice to be able to leave a review. How lovely all the staff were that I met on NY eve. Dr Aziz was amazing! What a kind, considerate, empathetic and professional individual. I felt really unwell that day and concerned about some test results. She was so thorough, talked everything through with me in such a kind and understanding way. I left feeling so reassured. I want to thank the two lovely ladies on reception for helping with a couple of issues, a lovely lady who advised about which tests/appointments to approach first and another lovely lady who took my blood tests. I am sorry I did not get any names. But I want to say a huge thank you to all five individuals I met that day. You really helped me so very much. Five star rating all round from me! Dr De Burgh Thomas telephoned me today as a follow up to my appointment in the HH clinic on 30/12/2025, with news of some test results, and to advise me to stop taking the antibiotics I was originally given as they are ineffective against the 2 bacteria which the tests have shown are present. He said he would call me back when he had checked which antibiotics would work for both bacteria. He duly did, and I will collect the medicine and start the course tomorrow. Dr De Burgh Thomas has also asked me to attend the clinic on Monday for further testing to rule out diabetes. I have found him to be friendly yet professional, and has answered all of my questions clearly. I feel reassured, and hope that the change in treatment will be effective.

Dr Mugilan was excellent in finding out what was causing our son's headaches . The MRI was done within a few days and Dr Mugilan talked us through the results and made referral to the Neurosurgeon . Excellent service and very thankful for the care and understanding. We were very anxious but Dr Mugilan explained everything about chairi malformations and listened to us and answered all our questions. Excellent paediatric consultant and we would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone worried about their child .

From walking through the doors on my first visit (presurgery) in June 2025 I was put at ease at all stages throughout my visits from the reception staff, the assessment staff pre surgery and the operating staff, pre and post surgery staff and the surgeon himself. Any questions IAd were answered very thoroughly.

I saw Mr. Davda in April 2025 for a consultation regarding pain caused by arthritis in my big toe. Mr. Davda gave clear advice which resulted in chielectomy surgery in May 2025. The surgery went very smoothly and the recovery process was as outlined by Mr. Davda. I am pleased to say that the treatment was successful and, over six months on from surgery, I am not currently experiencing pain.

Mr Sivaloganathan has been a been a breath of fresh air when dealing with a longstanding problem with my knee. He understood the impact it was having on my life and quickly came up with a plan to replace my knee. He explained his proposed treatment in a way that gave me a full understanding of the procedure and allowed me to make an informed to decision to proceed with the surgery.

Communication about where the treatment was to take place could have been a bit clearer - appointment was arranged via Shawfair Park reception but treatment was actually at Murrayfield which wasn't clear to me. Murrayfield reception also called and seemed surprised too that it has been done by Shawfair but didn't clarify where it was happening. All worked out in the end though.

Mrs Prakash is very friendly, gives clear explanations and advice and makes you feel at ease. During cataract surgery her bedside manner was excellent, I was very nervous, but her calm voice as she talked to me through the procedure really helped me to stay calm. I have had both cataract surgery and laser treatment with Mrs Prakash and would certainly recommend her to others.

Dr Kalla is an outstanding medical professional. His drawings and explanations helped me to understand, in simple language, exactly what the problem was. He was clear on what he was recommending, and why, and he always put me at ease. His bedside manner is second to none. When a secondary issue came to light, I had no hesitation in getting a referral back to Dr Kalla.

I required a GP appointment at short notice. WLC had same day appointments available, which I could book hassle free on the website. I saw a GP that diagnosed my health issue and provided a script. My pharmacist had an issue with obtaining the one item, but a phone call to WLC resolved that and a new script was texted and emailed to me later the same day.
