Professor Omar Faiz

Professor Faiz has been exceptional throughout our daughter's care. We met him in January 2024 to explore the possibility for her stoma to be reversed (she had emergency surgery to remove her colon at another hospital the previous year aged just 20). Professor Faiz is clearly preeminent in his field, he is also patient, kind and has the most wonderful bedside manner. He is a true professional and wanted to take time to ensure our daughter had the best possible chance for success. She underwent numerous tests to assess if she was a viable candidate for either J-Pouch or IRA surgery. In August 2024 Professor Faiz performed an IRA and it couldn't have gone better, internally it's perfect and externally neat as a pin. Though her colitis is still lingering (we knew this was a risk and one she felt worth taking) Professor Faiz is still very much involved in her care, together with a gastroenterologist colleague. We truly believe the direction of her life (and ours) was positively impacted when Professor Faiz was recommended to us and we are very grateful to him, and his team for looking after us so well.

nly negative was that I arrived on time, but the receptionist was being covered, when she returned she seemed to be in the middle of helping another patient on the phone ( I think) when she became available again another patient jumped up to speak to her before I was able to try to check in again. I arrived around 13.28, for 13.30 appointment so was already concerned about being late, but I wasn’t able to notify the receptionist of my arrival till around 13.50. I don’t believe this to be of fault of the receptionist, she did have someone covering when I arrived, but she informed me that she’d have to get the receptionist. My only note to have made it better would be to have a backup / secondary way to check in to not cause further delays. I was a bit reserved having a male doctor, just because of previous experiences where I haven’t been listened to and brushed off, but Dr Ajayi explained things very clearly and his manner, tone and knowledge made me feel a lot more at ease.

After years and years of very compromised life quality, extreme discomfort and pain, I visited Professor Brookes who identified my relatively severe pelvic congestion syndrome, and proceeded to carry out pelvic vein embolisation. Almost immediately I felt like I had been given my life back. No one else had been able to help before him. He has since had to carry out a couple of further embolisations for new problem veins. He has to be one of the best in this field in the country, if not worldwide! The nurses and team he works with are also always lovely and helpful. A super talented doctor who makes you feel instantly at ease, actually listening to the patient, and clearly explaining everything you would need to know in detail. Topped up with a general impeccable bedside manner, warmth, humour and charm. An overall wonderful experience. I couldn’t more highly recommend. Thank you 🙏 again PB!

I received warm, well informed professional attention throughout my care at St Anthony's Hospital; from outpatients through to discharge. The room was clean, well heated and ventilated, equipment checked and the armchairs comfortable. The unit was quiet. Nursing staff answered call bells promptly and with kindness and a smile. No request was considered a problem. Their level of knowledge and professionalism was excellent along with the standard of care. Physiotherapy care was also excellent and given with respect to my individual needs. Recovery staff were informative and reassuring. Excellent care there too. I include catering staff who also took care in their work. A few glitches with the electronics on the bed and the new bathroom which received prompt attention - the unit has been recently renovated.

I have never used private health care before and had been quite anxious. My first meeting with Gavin Macpherson, who had been recommended to me by a neighbour, was very reassuring. He was very clear in his discussion regarding my knee: looking at the x-ray, talking about the nature of the operation and describing the aftermath of the operation. It was a very helpful and supportive meeting. Gavin came to see me in my room before the operation. I didn't recognise him at first in his surgical kit! He was friendly, kind and reassuring. The operation went smoothly. Gavin called into see me several times afterwards. He had been pleased with the operation. I am delighted as I have had little severe pain - less than I had expected, some swelling but no bruising. Ten days on I already have promising mobility!

From initial consultation right through to post surgery care, the level of dedication and support has been unmatched. Dr Joe's bedside manner is like nothing I've ever experienced before, and I'm so thankful to have had the opportunity to have this surgery with him and his team. I debated having this surgery for many years, and at every step, Joe has been there to answer every question, every query, and made me feel completely at ease for this life changing decision. I felt part of the team rather than just the patient. I will need to have this surgery on my right ear and there is no other surgeon I would chose to have this done with.

Andrew was incredibly patient, understanding and clearly addressed my questions and concerns. He made me feel comfortable to be open and honest and the experience has reinstalled a greater sense of faith in healthcare services in general. I suspect I have ADHD and am diagnosed with generalised anxiety and engaging with healthcare services can be very difficult for me but Andrew was genuinely the nicest Dr I have ever been seen by. If all drs where like him I would have no issue engaging with services and being open and honest. His attitude was professional, attentive and understanding and I felt I was able to be myself without stigma or judgement.

Received urgent call requesting blood test for tolerance to Dye. I Moved appointments for that afternoon to facilitate a flying visit. After arrival kept waiting for 35 minutes until I asked reception as was needed elsewhere and was told phlebotomist would be with me shortly. With Phlebotomist approx 3 minutes, total time 50 minutes and 50 miles traveled Then had to wait 9 days for scan which was only scheduled following chase-up from private GP. On presenting for CT Scan was told that they did not require blood test as procedure did not indicate use of dye. Most unimpressive communication and administration throughout

I was referred by my own dentist as he felt specialist treatment was necessary, following an abscess. Treatment was required urgently as I was due to travel abroad and did not want a repeat of the abscess. Dr Naidoo was able to see me and start root canal treatment before I travelled, describing the treatment in detail so that I could make an informed decision. I was seen on return to this country and treatment was completed. The treatment was painless ad the quality of care was excellent. I had a very large inguinal hernia and after a long wait I had my operation. From my original consultation with Mr. McArthur, his pleasant and reassuring manner gave me great faith in him, and his skill was outstanding. My follow up appointment was so reassuring and he confirmed that everything had gone great. As I am a very nervous type of person, I would venture to say that Mr. McArthur is truly a "hernia angel", such was the good work he did for me. Mr. McArthur and his anesthetist and medical and admin team worked great together. I am truly grateful.
