I actually did not get to use the facilities in the private wing of Charing Cross Hospital, as I was seen in neurophysiology on level three of the NHS departments. The only time I had to go up to the 15th floor was to get two forms, stamped and provide my pre-authorisation number that meant getting in a crowded lift and riding up to the 15th floor, which took a very long time as the lift stopped on nearly every floor. Then I had to go back down to level three for tests. It was actually quite stressful for someone with my health conditions to do this, and to be expected to do this administration as the patient!. The waiting area in the NHS department was not relaxing, it was very hot, no natural light was had limited/poor ventilation and the receptionist was quite rude. The medical staff were more polite. When I pay for private healthcare, I prefer to stay in the private department than in the crowded NHS areas. I gather on this occasion the tests were not available in the private wing, but perhaps another hospital where the consultant worked would’ve been able to accommodate. I was not informed that the tests would be in the NHS department.

I am extremely happy that I chose Dr Derek Ho to perform my cataract surgery. He took his time to explain to me over the phone the different options and to make a recommendation when I asked him to. In the end I went with his suggestion of having a toric EMV lens in both eyes done at the same time. On the day of surgery he was very calm, polite and caring. His surgical skills are second to none. I felt reassured that I was in very experienced and capable hands. I could not believe that the treatment was completely pain free and smooth and easy. I could see very clearly after the operation straight away. Two days after the procedure I am totally amazed by how well I can see. I can now see better than I have ever been able to with glasses when I was younger. A truly transformative operation. I am so grateful to Dr Ho for what he has done for me. He is a great surgeon. I had an initial consultation for varicose vein treatment (following a flyer in the post) and following further investigations/diagnosis I went ahead and had an operation. The whole experience from beginning to end was first class. Everything was fully explained to me and all my questions were answered before deciding on the most appropriate treatment. The operation (under local anaesthetic) went well with a nurse talking to me all the time and explaining everything which was happening as as well as distracting me! My recovery went as planned - and as explained - and a follow up visit to see the consultant was very reassuring. All in all I was very pleased with everything and would not hesitate in recommending Shepton Mallet Hospital.

I had my Pre-assessment on 14/91/26 at 09.30. I arrived early because of the inadequate parking at the hospital but was pleasantly surprised to be able to park straight away so, I arrived at 09.00 for my appt. I registered with reception then the nurse, Sharon, called me. Sharon talked me through my Pre-assessment and explained in detail what would happen when I'm admitted for my op. She gave me an ECG, took MRSA swabs and I had my bloods taken. Sharon explained several forms to me and provided Octensian wash and nasal gel for me to use prior to admission and after. The whole experience was positive. Sharon was very professional with an easy, friendly manner and kindly answered my questions that she had not already covered.

Steve is excellent. Personable and very professional and clearly knows his stuff. He operated on our son following a shoulder dislocation playing rugby. I contacted Dr Kavita Verma to discuss my concerns over my prescription for perimenopause. I booked an appointment online at a time suitable for me after work and although I had my reservations, I was put at ease straight away. I talked through my symptoms and what I had been prescribed and I was advised the best way forward and also advised on some other options to help with other symptoms. I am being given a letter to give to my GP regarding what we have discussed and we are having a follow up call in 3 months. Switching to HRT feels like a big step to take, but I feel much about my decision now that I have talked it through. I felt like I was truly listened to and my concerns were heard.

I really appreciated being able to get a quick appointment and having my scan done by a doctor radiologist who could then explain what he saw and give me some advice. The scan was done quickly and it allowed me to promptly get the scan done for my GP. I was super pleased that the report arrived quickly, it was there in my emails before I even got home! There was a chaperone there too, the clinic was nice and the receptionist was very warm and friendly and efficient. All in all a great discovery for me as I felt the prices were very reasonable for private scans so I could use the service for regular health checks..
