Dr Paul Thornton-Bott Hip & Knee Orthopaedic Surgeon For many years, I lived with persistent hip and leg pain that gradually worsened to the point where I could no longer walk, sit, or stand without significant discomfort. I was hospitalised four times for pain management and was repeatedly told it was simply an arthritis “flare-up,” with strong pain medication prescribed as the only solution. For over a decade, I experienced ongoing aching, and six years ago the pain began waking me at night. In the last two years, I suffered in silence. From February 2025, I was unable to sleep for more than four hours at a time—and even that was only possible with medication. Despite seeking care through POW Hospital, I was advised to wait for the flare-up to pass. By October, the pain had become debilitating. Everyday activities—walking, sitting, even something as simple as using the bathroom—became overwhelming. Eventually, my body simply stopped allowing me to move. The pain was completely life-altering. At my lowest point, friends encouraged me to seek another opinion. That decision changed everything. I contacted East Sydney Private Hospital and spoke with Michelle, whose kindness and compassion were evident from the very first call. She listened, acted quickly, and arranged for me to see Dr Paul Thornton-Bott that same day. From the moment I met Dr Thornton-Bott, I felt reassured. He was humble, thorough, and honest. He didn’t overpromise, but he clearly explained that a hip replacement could relieve my pain. For the first time in years, I felt heard—and more importantly, I felt hope. Michelle coordinated all necessary imaging and documentation seamlessly, and the entire pre-operative process was exceptionally well organised. I always knew what was required, and communication from both the hospital and Michelle was outstanding. I am now two weeks post-surgery, and I can say with absolute certainty: I have no hip pain. I can walk, sit, and stand without the debilitating discomfort that once defined my daily life. While there is some mild post-operative soreness, it is minimal and entirely expected—it is nothing compared to what I endured before. I only wish I had pursued this surgery sooner. Dr Paul Thornton-Bott is an exceptional surgeon, supported by a highly skilled team, including outstanding anaesthetists and specialists. You are treated as an individual—not a number—and your care is directly managed by him throughout the process. This is not a paid review—simply my genuine experience. I would not hesitate to return to Dr Thornton-Bott for future treatment, and my husband will also be seeking his care for a knee replacement. If you are living with chronic pain, please know there are options. You do not have to live this way. 10/10.

The nurse who did my admission was not friendly and didn't complete the checklist properly. She ticked no to the question about hypertension even though I said had high blood pressure, and she then just ticked no for all the other questions without asking me any of them. She really didn't seem to want to be there or care about doing her job professionally. After my procedure the same nurse came and asked if I had finished my sandwich and drink and when I said I hadn't she picked up the tray anyway and then stood over me until I quickly finished my juice. She then told me to go and sit in a recliner. When I stood up I was quite dizzy and almost fell over. She was a short woman wearing glasses and a face mask. I don't know her name. The other nurses were excellent - friendly and professional.

He was compassionate, knowledgeable and empathetic, you could tell he cared about his patients. He ensured I had all the information I needed prior to starting treatment and undergoing surgery. All my concerns and questions were answered and it was very reassuring to know I was in such great hands. I underwent a double mastectomy and implant reconstruction in August 2025. The results exceeded my expectation, they look incredibly natural. He is really talented and has a great attention to detail. I would highly recommend Ran.

Dr Swati is very professional and knowledgeable. She referred me for a Coronary Angiogram. I was unsure if I'd had this exact procedure before. I now believe I hadn't and found it a bit of an ordeal. This is not the Doctor's fault but a little more explanation of how the angiogram was to be conducted would have been helpful in my planning on the day, as the hospital was 75kms away and I required transportation to and from.

The staff are very cordial and helpful and also well organised. Initially I rhought they had double booked in error because two of us arrived for an appointment at the same time. However the other patient required an injection and whilst Dr Wei was busy with the other patient the assistants undertook routine scans and tests. By the time these were completed Dr Wei was ready to see me.
